AAMCO Transmissions

I just got my car a few months ago and today, the «check engine» light came on. I came here to ask if I could get my car diagnosed because I heard the service was free. The guy at the front told me pretty bluntly that the free service was useless and that to actually find out what was wrong I would need to do the $ 120 option where they do a thorough inspection of my car. I told him I suspected it was just the gas cap. He said that the free inspection wouldn’t be able to tell if it was the gas cap — fair enough, I know there’s no code for that, but he wouldn’t even budge from his chair to offer to take a look at all. I was then told, «Well, we could do the free option but you need to leave your car for a few hours and I have paying customers that have priority.» There was literally no other car there and with the amount of attitude I got, I just thanked him for his time and walked out. Next door was a shop called Vo Complete Auto Services. I’ll post a separate review for them but basically, they looked at my car for less than 5 minutes and figured out it was indeed the gas cap and reset the light for free. Thank god I did not give AAMCO any money when it was such a simple problem and they obviously just wanted to get as much money as possible and not actually care about service.
The owner is probably going to say that this bad review was posted by a competitor, but it doesn’t take a genius to see with the incredible volume of detailed, specific complaints against them, something has to be going on with their business. My advice: literally go next door!

I would not go back to this place for poor customer service and over priced re-​manufactured parts used. I should have read the reviews before dropping my car here.

What a disappointment! I had a $ 800 tune up here and told them my abs and brake light keeps coming on. They said they didn’t know why and I also told them I was concerned about my transmission because I kept hearing a whining noise. They said everything was ok and the sound was normal! Well guess what. my transmission completely blew out at 8200 feet while in the Sierra montains. $ 3000 dollars later my transmission is fixed in Nevada. Gee why did I ever think a auto shop with «transmissions» in the name would help me?

Engine light came on — Aamco offers a free diagnostic, but then they are up front that this free service wont diagnose the problem completely. That costs $ 120. We went for it. Turned out to be a catalytic converter which they were going to charge $ 1350 to fix. After some research we were able to get it fixed at another shop for $ 300 parts and labor. Seems like they were overcharging just a bit.

I never give a place 5 stars. No one perfect.
I don’t understand why there’s so much bad review for this place. For me it’s the opposite.
I picked up my work truck earlier 2 week ago and I must say it runs and sound much better. I would like to take the time to thank Nick and techs for providing me with the diagnostic and repairs. Money well spent and the warranty that they guarantee.

I originally gave them a 5 star on their system, because they were courteous, the service was quick and to the price… even showed us the replaced parts without being asked. Drove home and thought my car troubles were over. Then my husband took my car for a test drive and asked if my steering had always been so lose? I didn’t know what he was talking about till I took the car out the next day, luckily there wasn’t any traffic Sunday morning on the way to the gym or I might have had an accident. Got home and we jacked it up only to find that they had not tighten bolts that connected the wheels to steering and they were almost out. The left wheel moved independently of the steering and the right was not far behind. We tightened them down and my husband went in to complain the next day. While they said those had to be removed to do the work they offered no compensation or even apology. They could have had a law suit on their hands had their been an accident.

Do not come to this place. Rude, unprofessional, ripe off, you name it, if it’s bad this place has it all, try to sell me a transmission repair that cost $ 4000. I almost had them do the work. Luckily I went to get a second opinion at another shop. (My check engine light came on a few days ago and my car runs a little rough.)
The other shop found a code p0301 is a cylinder mis firing in the engine, causing my engine to run rough, the tune up they did cost me $ 89 dollar, now my car runs smooth again. I will never come here again. I hope
they don’t do this with everyone of their customer. Do not come to this place. They will try to sell you repair that your car doesn’t need.

Rude, hard to understand, unprofessional. First of all, the guy told me his name was «Bonnie». I’m pretty sure it wasn’t. Then, he proceeded to tell me that I needed $ 300 worth of work on some auxiliary cable. When asked him if he could write it down, he through some already scribbled on piece of paper at me that had all of my car’s information on it, not the work he was suggesting. Everything about the situation felt wrong, so I left and took my car to a mechanic where he found handfuls of leaves under my hood and removed them for me. These guys straight up either lied to me or are too stupid to do their job correctly. Either way I will NEVER return to another Aamco. Ever. Good job, Bonnie.

Thanks to Al, owner of the shop for doing my transmission with straightforward approach. If you want answer to questions to transmission problems talk to the owner, Al. He is to me the walking encyclopedia. No if no but. He delivers. After picking up my car with transmission repair I drove straight to Central Valley without a glitch.

Al really helped me out. I needed to get the transmission checked out. They spent a lot of time working to define the problem. I think they went above and beyond what I would have expected. Thanks.

I really hope that by my writing this someone c like can be saved from being scammed like I was. I brought a car in that I had just purchased and I knew it needed quite a bit of work. But I was desperate for a car so that I could get to my new job that was just about to start. Al the owner of this shop knew all of this and still took horrible advantage of someone who doesn’t know much about cars and trusted him to do the right thing. I bought what I thought was new tires for the car which I now know were retreads. It needed an alignment that he sent to another shop without ever telling me he wasn’t doing the work. The alignment still isn’t right but he doesn’t want to hear it. I told him the car kept stalling but instead of addressing the problem, he ignored it and now it stalls while I’m driving it. To top all of this off the man is rude beyond any business owner I’ve ever encountered. He thinks nothing at all of yelling at you and telling you how ungrateful you are. I am now driving a car that is unsafe because he didn’t have the knowledge to know what was wrong with it. If you really want a quality mechanic this would not be the place to go.

Update: If I’m not in the database, perhaps that’s one more indication of this shop’s problems.

I took my car in two years ago for transmission problems. They quoted me $ 1800 for a new one. Once they had it taken apart, they called me and told me it would be $ 3500. I was outraged! I was stuck because they had it apart, left me no choice then to fix it. Anyhow, 2 years later I am having the same issues as before. I took it in and they said I needed a new transmission. I couldn’t believe it! I had only driven 22k miles on the new transmission. I was told it would have a lifetime warranty the first time I went in. They wanted another $ 3500 to fix it. Needless to say I «blew a gasket»!!!
I took it to Sunco Transmission and they put in a new transmission for $ 2k. When they took it apart, they found that AAMCO had only added a few new parts when they worked on my transmission. TOTAL WRIP OFF!!!
DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO AAMCO!!! You will be very sorry.
The staff there is only trained to lie and take your money.

I can’t wait for this place to be shut down. The owner lies like no tomorrow. Point is Fat Albert you and your business are crap. Your a scam artist and I really can’t wait to see the days your aamco location goes belly up. You say you have 5 star reviews but have all been written by employees or other locations the real reviews are the negative ones… Do you really think the public can’t tell your good reviews are fake? Stop being such a lying scam artist and fix people’s cars the right way the first time. Yes I may have had service warranty but that is something I paid for so no my car wasn’t fixed for free… It wasn’t even fixed at all.

Aaron The owner was helpful. I needed my radiator replaced he didn’t BS me and was very quick working with my auto warranty company. I had my car back in 1 day. Very good service!

Okay so this is in response to the owners comment on my previous post. So the BBB doesn’t do investigations, they just settle disputes and give business ratings. I did report them to the BBB as well as the BAR who found them in violation on several matters including that the industry standard would have been to put REPLACE the fuel pump the first time it came back leaking not to sodder it back together! I did accept the refund from AAMCO (through the BBB) rather than take them to small claims court at this time because I did report them to the BAR who further investigates shops like these, and according to my case manager at the BAR this shop has been warned against this and the owner has had several other complaints against him so DO NOT GO HERE!!!

worst time of my life. My car started messing up so took it there, said i needed a new ecu cost 1250 but needed my car so i got it done, not even a weak later my car starts doing the same thing, took it there, they said it needed spark plugs and cam sensor or something, paid another 300. got my car back soon as i took it off the lot it stoped working, turned around and they said the part they got was defected got my car back the next day. I looked under my hood and they sliced into wires and connected some coupling together. and then my brakes just stopped working out of no were. i swear this place is nothing but a headic. wish i read reviews before i went there.

Since they are under new management the service has greatly improved. I went there a couple years ago and it was pretty good, but now the guys are much friendly and way more service oriented.
I did not know that they fixed more than transmissions. I was planning on going to a couple places to have my truck fixed, but they did it all in one shot.
I will definitely be going back for all my truck maintenance needs.

My car broke down while driving up from SoCal. I called AAMCO and they said the nearest shop was the Tully Road location in San Jose. They towed my Ford Explorer into the shop FOR FREE :)
AAMCO rebuilt my transmission and I got my car back in only 2 days. Customer service was AWESOME first rate! AAMCO offered me a free rental car for me and my family to use while they repaired my explorer so my road trip wouldnt be a complete waste of time for my family.
All in all, I was more than completely satisifed with my AAMCO experience. 2 thumbs up!

5 stars for: Looking at my car for free, not rushing me and discussing the options with me. I decided to sell the car rather than fix it which meant that they made no $ from me but I was very impressed with the conversations we had.
So, you can take the 4 stars with a grain of salt since I didn’t have my car repaired but I really appreciated Rick’s attitude which was 5 stars all the way.
Edit: I’m knocking this down to 2 stars. The 2 stars are for Rick’s pleasant attitude and the fact he stored my car for a week while we discussed my options. Now that I know the work is covered under warranty and I’m getting a free $ 5K transmission, I gotta believe that it should have come up in the conversation that I should check with VW or check my warranty.
