A Classy Affair DJ & Entertainment

DJ Roy is a seasoned professional and has provided entertainment throughout the San Francisco Bay area and beyond for many years now. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Roy at a recent wedding and all I can say is WOW! The music was perfect and exactly right for this occasion; this wedding was for a couple deeply rooted in their faith and christian beliefs. It takes a seasoned, well-​trained and disciplined DJ to be able to assist with music selection, timing and all around flow of the music when presented with specific guidelines, Roy did an amazing job! Any DJ worth his salt will ask for assistance when uncertain as to name pronunciation, etc. Roy had no problem asking for clarification rather than risk making a phonetic mistake during announcements. As a planner, it is important to establish communication with the DJ early on, I was able to do that and we were able to accomplish our goals for the evening. Roy arrived prompt and ready to work. His presentation was nothing short of classy and professional. DJ Roy is very friendly, he kindly followed the Reception schedule I provided and was able to share ideas and make suggestions for this event when needed. Roy has a pleasant demeanor and is easy to work with. My suggestion: contact him early, follow up as needed and then let him do his thing. He’s a busy guy, works all the time, so the more lead time you provide, the better. Can’t wait to work with DJ Roy again.

I just want to note that DJ Roy’s comment (below) is completely untrue. Actually, he offered me a partial refund AFTER I posted this review if I would remove it, which is completely unethical. I refused and he chose to write a personally attacking comment, including my full name and employer!!, which I find completely sleazy.
Yes, my wedding was a success — but not because of DJ Roy; rather, despite him! We had an amazing time, but he sucked. Also, his characterizations of our pre-​wedding interactions are complete lies. He wouldn’t put any of my music on his computer because he doesn’t know how to use computers properly. He was afraid that the songs would get integrated into his iTunes library (a 5^th grader knows how to isolate files from the library).
Additionally, out of about 8 hours of music, I think I had about one hour of «explicit rap music» and DJ Roy never mentioned a concern about playing those songs until AFTER I wrote my negative review.
Basically, DJ Roy is a liar. I understand he’s trying to rehabilitate his image through this post full of falsehoods, but that’s not the way to run a legitimate business.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a DJ, I would look elsewhere — not only because DJ was at best mediocre on the day of my wedding, but because he has been so incredibly unprofessional and downright libelous since then.
Roy, watch your comments. Libel (publishing lies about someone) is a serious offense.

I used A Classy Affair for several events last year. My company turned 125 and we needed live music at one event and a DJ at the other — both were fantastic and perfect for the event/​venue. The JAzz Trior & Leland Thunes took our client event to a whole other level of classiness and DR Raheem made our employee event memorable. I would highly recommend them for any event type. Daniel listened to my needs and delievered the perfect answer! Also, the price was so reasonable!

We picked A Classy Affair based on availability, price and what we thought was an understanding of our desires for music on our wedding day.
We’re easy going, just wanted our music. We told the DJ that it would be the easiest gig he would probably ever show up to do. Play the music, Announce the first dance, the cake cutting, work with the caterer to keep things moving.
We asked for a specific type of music at the beginning of the reception. All 40’s style — to go with the venue. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Diana Krall, etc. Imagine my surprise when while watching the video later I heard Bob Marley playing in the background while the guests were waiting for us to arrive from our photographs.
Not a big deal, although we did discuss it several times and even wrote it down, but you know, that’s not the way it played out.
Our first dance was choreographed. We told our DJ this. Yet, he started the song anyway and we ended up having to rush out and pick up where it was.
The DJ also forgot to announce the cutting of the cake.
During toasts, we asked for the mic to be left open (for a few minutes) so others could make toasts if so inspired. Unfortunately, that did not happen either. Best Man and Maid of Honor only. Then the music we didn’t know about or ask for started again.
The music was disappointing. After our several friendly chatty hours spent talking about the type of music that I liked, followed up with an email and a CD — I heard lots of music that I didn’t like. To me, when someone says «I like 80’s music, like The Kinks» that does not mean «Footloose» is a good song that I’ll enjoy.
Fortunately, few guests seemed to notice that we were confused that so many songs special to us weren’t being played, and the kids seemed to enjoy the music. They dancedd the most. As the bride *I* would have danced more if I knew or liked more of the music that was played.
There was a problem with the sound system just as people were really getting going, which was a bummer.
But I also heard songs like «hot hot hot» and «can’t touch this.»
It was just embarrassing.
They didn’t do a terrible job, but I can’t offer them a recommendation earlier. We communicated with our DJ a lot, but I’m left feeling that a lot of it was one way and not really absorbed.
I wish we had gone with an ipod wedding — at least that way we would have heard the songs we really wanted to hear. The music is the one thing that sticks out about what was otherwise a pretty fantastic day.
Do your ipod, ladies. Get a friend. Hire some equipment. This one just wasn’t a good value.
