Wonderful Restaurant

It is sad to report it is closed for good due to demographic changes. It was reported by one of the wait staff that Chinese mainlanders do eat Japanese and don’t know Taiwanese.

This place consider worse Japanese in SGV, manager definitely has no sense how to run the kitchen and food service. On Sat dinner time 7pm literally only have 3 – 4 tables and one of table ordered 6 dishes only but waited nearly 2.5 hrs to have all dishes completed. However, manager didn’t even seem to know push kitchen having food rush out within timely manner. Sadly, under Such management run this place will result with my prediction. This place will out of business within one year. Unless hire new management team with brand new menu.

The food is very good and fresh but very expensive. There is a variety of Taiwanese dishes and also Sushi and sashimi. But some of the dishes are super spicy so if you could handle it, give it a try. The setting is very quiet and the waitresses are nice. It’s worth giving this place a try before it’s gone

My friend treated me here, and I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. I am quite surprised that they got some bad reviews on Unilocal.
For those who complained about their prices, I would say, I could tell it’s a much higher class restaurant when stepping into it. Besides, it has a two-​dollar-​sign ($$) level on Unilocal.Those people could have noticed that before entering the restaurant.
Well, now it’s my opinion. They have really good quality for the food. My friends and I had a combination of sashimi, which is fresh and very delicious. We had a bottle of sake (alcohol) as well. It was hot but very smooth taste. By the way, if you don’t like sake, the hot green-​tea (actually it is Macha) is just perfect. Originally, good green-​tea/​macha is made of powder and hot water. This place chooses good tea to serve its customers. I appreciate their delicacy.
We also order some Taiwanese dishes, including duck, spicy stinky tofu and a plate of vegetable. Spicy stinky tofu is well-​known to many people in Taiwanese cuisine. Try some when you are here. Don’t just order rolls that are so Californian style. Expose yourself to some exotic food! You won’t regret. Waitress and waiters can speak English, Mandarin, Japanese and Cantonese. So if you have friends who can help you on the language thing, invite them to go with you :)

What Unilocal coupon!!! When I checked in, the waitress said that there was no ice cream!!! She didn’t (even) offer any free soda! The waitress would have said that in the beginning!!!
On top of that, there were no Sukiyaki or Jot Pot!!! You would think that this would be noted on the menu!!! And they were stingy with the rice, as well!!! I would, much rather, go to Z Sushi in Alhambra, which is (also) operated by Taiwanese but way better caliber in their taste of their foods!!!
And the restaurant is so dirty that I spotted cob webs and what-​not on their ceiling!!! I felt bugs biting at my legs all night!!!
And their Teriyaki Chicken was over-​cooked! I ordered the B Combination and got 2 tiny California rolls!!!
Bottom line? Not worth my time!!! I am sorry to say that they may not survive the business would they this up … They needed to be less money-​minded!

It’s sad to feel this restaurant was declining.
I visited this restaurant several times from about 5 years ago. The owner loves fancy food and is not shy to bring them onto the menu. Sometimes things may go wrong so the food taste so-​so, but most of the time I found surprisingly positive outcomes.
What makes me sad is that after years the atmosphere of the store is deteriorating. One can observe greases on the wall or dividers. Small spider webs on the ceilings. All are signs of falling apart.

I would give 3.5.
Sashimi deluxe-​above average. Pretty fresh fish. First time having uni is at this restaurant and I fall in love with uni.
Fish soup of the day-​delicious. Mild and warms your heart. Fresh fish head and soft cabbage in tasty fish broth. The best fish soup I’ve ever had.
Dragon roll-​average. The dragon head is cute.
Crispy shrimp roll-​average.
Crispy German pork-​average. The entire dish is pretty fattening. Crispy yet too salty.

Great service great sushi. Just friendly chinese environment. Definitely recommend for people who is looking for variety of asian fusion.

This restaurant can’t possibly send more 40% off coupons when you spend $ 50. (or $ 40 off $ 100. .. I forget).
Their food deserves a C+ and their service is of B– standard. Okay if you really don’t have other choices, but I wouldn’t recommend bringing anyone other than your immediate family there, and only if 1) you have the coupon and 2) you really need a place to eat then and there.

You can safely assume that the 4– and 5-​star reviews are bogus.
This restaurant puts out coupons but in order to use them you have to put 4– or 5– star reviews on Unilocal.A restaurant that is confident it’s serving decent food and providing decent service shouldn’t need to bribe its customers for positive reviews (not to mention it’s against Unilocal guidelines for business owners). I guess this is also the reason they have to call themselves «Wonderful» when the reality is that they’re anything but.

I’ve had take outs from this place many times and never had a problem, I actually thought their food was quite delicious! However, it’s when I decided to dine in… we ordered 5 different entrees and 4 of them came out wrong! I am not sure if that particular waitress just didn’t give a shit that night but I’ve never experienced anything like this anywhere. I might give it another shot since my previous take-​out experiences had been pleasant.

Decided to try this place out with my mom and I’m glad we did. Came twice, both during lunch.
We ordered the stinky tofu both times and it is ON POINT. We also ordered a few other plates in which all the portions were very generous. The prices are very reasonable as well except for their sushi prices. They’re more on the pricey side. I would recommend elsewhere for sushi.
The staff was very nice and overall we had a good experience. Will definitely come back again!

My family and I were looking for a sushi place to eat for dinner, and we went to Yoshino first. We usually go there but tonight, it was packed so we decided to try something new.
Let me tell you this, I was shocked looking at the menu prices. $ 18 for a dragon roll and $ 14 for a caterpillar roll. So expensive for such average quality food. The bill came out to be $ 100 for a family of four. We could have eaten at an AYCE sushi place for that price and get triple the amount of sushi.
Also, I noticed there was sand in the lobster and scallop rolls. It was pretty unusual to find sand in it and really discomforting when eating. The mussel plate we ordered had a lot of empty shells, and we had to find the mussels in the salty sauce.
Overall, I think this restaurant could do much better if the prices weren’t so darn high.

First, the food. Mediocre at best. I ordered a baked scallop roll. It actually came out not that warm and was mostly topped off with mayonnaise. Yes, I’m aware that that’s what’s on these types of rolls but there was mostly mayonnaise and not much of the scallops. This place is way overpriced given the quality.
Second, the service. I came here on Christmas Day for lunch with my parents. They got their food at around the same time. I got my food (the one roll that i ordered) at least 25 minutes after they got their food and 45 minutes after we we had placed our order. My dad had already finished eating, and my mom was nearly done.
I waited some time before flagging down our server. I gave them some time because I thought the baked scallop roll might just take longer. After a while though it was clear that they had forgotten my order. When I flagged our server she seemed completely oblivious (it was clear that she had no idea something was missing at the table — she had that what do you need look). She quickly recovered though and said that it was very busy and they only had one chef because it was Christmas.
I hate being lied to. If you made a mistake or if someone else made a mistake, just say it. There’s no need to lie and say that it’s busy and that’s why my one roll was going to come out half an hour after my parents got their food.
Oh, and busy? There were at most 4 other tables filled. The place was practically empty except for us.
In the end they gave us coupons but that’s little comfort to someone who doesn’t plan on coming back.

I enjoy their Taiwanese menu in general. Their stinky tofu pot is authentic. And their spicy cold chicken is pretty tasty, it tastes like the night market «salty water» chicken with a touch of chili. Their Japanese dragon roll is good too, baked eel coated with light Asian BBQ sauce… Yum!

I came here a few nights ago and I’ll just be blunt and say that I would not recommend this place to anyone. They had a lot of selections and I felt a bit overwhelmed on the two different types of cuisine at first. However, personally, I think they should just cut off the Japanese food selections because their sushi are not fresh!
Here’s what we ordered:
Sushi:
1) Spicy tuna roll: It had a bad taste to it and the color was a bright red. Has anyone every seen spicy tuna to be firetruck red? Definitely not me.
2) Lobster roll: first question I asked my bf: Is it me or does the cheese have a weird smell and taste? Let’s just say, I did not want to take another bite.
Hot Pot:
It says «small hot pot» and you can choose beef, pork, or seafood. However, I speak Chinese but I cannot read it and when it came, it was stinky tofu hot pot. I’m not a fan of stinky tofu but if you are, you might like it. I’ve had better hot pot at One on One, Jazz Cat, and Boiling Point.
Overall:
Food: I would suggest sticking with one type of cuisine or improve the sushi side.
Service: I give them 4 stars. Owner is pretty nice and ²⁄₄ waiters/​waitresses give good service.

They must have dropped some of their prices because it wasn’t too bad when I came here for lunch.
Let me start with the Pros:
— $ 7.95 for a pitcher of kirin (or $ 1.95 for a pint). I think that wins a prize for cheapest in town!
— Free green tea, the legit matcha kind and not the crappy bags.
— Stinky tofu was decent and really stinky (if you like that kind of thing)
— Fried noodles weren’t bad
— Pork with bean curd was decent
— Check-​in and get a free soda.
— Lunch menu prices seemed decent.
Cons:
— For comparison, the Taiwanese food here wasn’t as tasty as Uncle Yu’s Indian restaurant.
— I didn’t try the sashimi fearing that I would bomb the toilets. Ever hear of a japanese/​taiwanese restaurant? No, because its harder to keep items fresh since you have to cater to a wider menu… which means that things are most likely frozen. No Thanks.
Other than that, it wasn’t a bad place to eat. All I’m saying is if you’re looking for cheap Kirin and a couple of snacks, this isn’t a bad option.

One of the awkward moments when you are actually craving for Taiwanese Japanese food…
This place used to be a Japanese restaurant. Now they are serving both Japanese & Taiwanese dishes! Must have done this to survive.
The server served me green tea as soon as I was seated. I was craving for a Dragon Roll, but found out that a Dragon Roll is actually $ 16, and ½ is $ 9.95. I looked at the sushi prices and decided to switch to Dinner Combo instead. I ordered the Dinner Combo A with Mixed Tempura for $ 9.95. (Can only choose one main dish. Thought it normally comes with 2 choices!) It came with Soup, Salad, Rice, 2 pieces of California Roll, and 2 slices of orange. Funny thing is that the server is Mexican, but he speaks Mandarin. The Tempura looked a bit sad but tastes ok. I like its assortment though. The Tempura has Shrimp, Eggplant, Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, and Carrot.
The salad dressing was good, but a bit too much. The server gave me the California Roll without soy sauce. I had to ask for it. They tried to play some nice classy music in the background, but it just didn’t match. It’s a loud family restaurant.

I had a great experience here the other night :) kind of a jazzy-​feel to this restaurant. Maybe it was the lighting or music, but… I liked it. Different for a Japanese restaurant!
Loved the sashimi… got yellowtail and salmon and it was melt-​in-​your-​mouth fresh =) mm… want more yellowtail! They have this new (apparently) item on the menu that’s half seared sushi where the fish on top is, well, half-​seared. Seared on top, and raw on the bottom on a little bed of nori. We got the hamachi (yellowtail), salmon, and beef… yes, even the beef was half-​seared. My favorites were the hamachi and beef! The way it’s prepared really has an interesting texture to it and the hamachi one has a bit of some kind of minty pesto on top too that really gives the over sushi a kick.
Also ordered red snapper sashimi… comes on a plate with about 15 pieces or so, and it’s soaked in a kind of ponzu sauce that makes it delicious :) The dragon roll was good… just like other places, but… I thought it was cute that they made it look like a dragon with a snout, horns, and an actual tail haha :) And last but not least, yummyyyy japanese fried rice! Be warned that it’s a little bit oily, but then again I think it’s like that at Daikokuya too. I think there’s more seafood and items in this fried rice than at Daikokuya though, so I loved it! :]
A bit pricier of a place, but good food and ambiance! (Plus, I’m always wary of cheap sushi… it’s not supposed to be cheap! Or if it is… it’s probably not as good or fresh: P)
They serve Taiwanese food too, so I’d be curious to try out some of those items on the menu :)
