Your experience at Uncle Yu’s Indian Theme Restaurant(restaurant is a bit misleading … it is more like a sports bar serving Taiwanese food) will completely be based on whether you can reserve a table before the playoffs(especially NBA playoffs) tip-off time. I actually called on Saturday and placed a Sunday reservation at 6:30PM, but ultimately our group ended up standing for 1+ hour because no one was willing to give up their seats while the NBA final was still in progress. So the main lesson — always reserve your spot right before the tip-off time(in this case the game started at 5PM and the restaurant did open early earlier than usual). You can easily grab a table without a reservation if there are no sports games going on. Anyhow, all Asian waitresses dressed up like Pocahontas and had a feather in their head(hence the nickname«Taiwanese Hooters»). Later I learned from my coworkers that it is offensive for non-Native Americans to wear headdresses. Food: It is pretty much a Taiwanese version of izakaya — skewers(chicken skin, chicken heart, kabobs, etc), crispy items(e.g. fried duck tongue, fried pork intestine, deep fried pigeon, fried goby, etc), beers, traditional Taiwanese dishes(e.g. three-cup chicken /three-flavored pot, stir fry sesame oil kidney, stinky tofu /odorous tofu, etc), and other miscellaneous dishes(e.g. kung pao chicken, ma-po tofu, etc), There are over 100+ dishes to choose from & a pot of rice is $ 2.50. *** [C02] Three Flavored Sauce with Chicken(basically three-cup chicken, $ 12.99): Random fun fact — the dish derives its name from the three cups of sauces to make this dish — soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil. Now you pretty much have to eat it together with rice or else you will complain how salty three-cup chicken is. Excellent flavors and tasted way better than three-cup chicken from ROC Kitchen at Sawtelle Japantown.(4⁄5) [D02] Fried(Pork) Spare Ribs($ 10.99): Not as good as three-cup chicken with a fairly mediocre meat quality. Not horrible, but there are better salted pork chop dish in the SGV(San Gabriel Valley) area.(3⁄5) [E06] Grilled Lamb Kabobs(2 skewers, $ 3.75): Average meat quality, but great seasoning(tasted a bit like teriyaki sauce).(3.75÷5) *** Definitely get three-cup chicken(one of Uncle’s Yu signature dishes — other dishes include miso fish [E16], stir fried eggplant with basil and shredded pork [F06]) and overall it is a pretty unique Taiwanese bar in the Southern California. If you can ignore somewhat rowdy crowd and book a table ahead of time during the busy playoff seasons, then this is a fun place to watch sports games and enjoy pretty authentic Taiwanese cuisine.

This place is pretty fun. Reminds me of a sports bar and great for friends for drinking and eating. I went last night with a group of friends for birthday/graduation dinner. I love how this place has so much tv! I got to watch the finals of the NBA with the Warriors!(GOWARRIORS!) Anyways, the place is like dark inside but feels like a bar. It’s pretty cool I wouldn’t say it’s a family restaurant. It’s more of a hipster place for younger people. We booked 2 tables and this place is pretty small. The chairs here are dangerous! They wobble a little and even when u lean back you can fall or it feels like you can break the chair. So be careful when you sit here. The food is Taiwanese style. Pricy food and they don’t give you a lot depending on what you order. I thought the price was expensive but once in a while I guess it’s ok to eat here. One thing I don’t like here is the parking. I feel the parking is small and crowded so I really think they need to fix their lot. Overall it was a fun night and I got to see the bball game.

Out of the very few Taiwanese bars I’ve been to, and by Taiwanese bars, I mean two, I like this one more out of the two. The atmosphere is very welcoming every time I come here. There’s multiple tv’s here with different sports games on. The tables aren’t exactly comfortable, but they also aren’t uncomfortable, but who even knows if it’s comfortable when you have a good buzz going on(lol). There isn’t a large selection of alcohol here, but there is a very large selection of typical Taiwanese food. Yum! Also Ting Ting has got to be the best server here! She’s always so nice and friendly! My favorite dish here is the three cup chicken. Their chicken is always tender and jammed packed with flavor! The spicy glass? noodles are also super good! It’s flavor is similar to the spice flavoring from the cold side dishes from Yunnan Restaurant in Monterey Park. I’ve also had plenty of other dishes here and they’re all good! Nothing is ever overly salted or under-seasoned. To be honest, even their rice is good. I’m usually very picky about how my rice is, but I can’t complain here. I grew up eating jasmine rice, but normally at Asian restaurants, I don’t eat the rice because I don’t like the grain or it’s too soft or too hard. Uncle Yu gets it right every time! Perfectly cooked jasmine rice to accompany the dishes and beer. I really have nothing bad to say about this place besides the small selection of beer, but that really isn’t a big deal. If you want a larger selection of beer, go to a more Americanized place. Oh, and Uncle Yu is usually there to greet customers and see how they’re doing! According to my manager, Uncle Yu hasn’t changed his haircut since this place opened LOLOL.

Voted the top Taiwanese-themed sports bar by LA Weekly and one of the Best Taiwanese Restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley in 2011.(Are there many of these sports bar to choose from in the first place?) It is also often dubbed the«Taiwanese Hooters.» Intriguing. The atmosphere is typical of what you would expect from any sports bar: a number of large widescreen TVs tuned into ESPN or some sports events; a loud, boisterous crowd; countless pitchers of beer and cute waitresses busily bringing drinks and bar food. The menu items are uniquely Taiwanese, which includes popcorn chicken, duck tongues, hot pots, pig intestines and skewers among their many choices. The waitresses wear their trademark red tank tops, black shorts and UGGs, and sport red or white feathers in their hair. Compared to Jurassic Restaurant, their attire is understated. The young ladies are warm and friendly, not flirtatious. The food is better but not nearly as fun as its rival Taiwanese themed restaurant in the City of Industry. Uncle Yu, their owner and figurehead, seems always visible and firmly seated on a step stool in the back of the bar. If you make eye contact with him, he will smile and give you his trademark double thumbs-up salute. Good bar food and atmosphere. Just beware of the infamous stinky tofu! The Taiwanese are very fond of this dish and patrons have a penchant to order it often. It is a taste I have not acquired(it taste like it smells) nor do I have any inclination of trying again.

I would give this place 4 stars but.. . the service was terrible. The food is GREAT! But overpriced and the decorations are awesome. The only problem were the waitress. We ordered food and water. But food came and we need water. We asked the waitress 2 more times for water and finally got it. Then towards the end i asked for refill of water. No water again; asked the waitress AGAIN and she said ‘okay’ and then i see her go straight to semi cleaning a table behind me and go serve other people. This is really rude and the place wasn’t really busy! Got the check, which took a while and left. Overall waitress was mood killer. :/

I came to Indian’s a long long time ago once for dinner to catch up with some old friends and at the time, it really didn’t strike me as anything interesting or unique about the place. But as they say, as the years past by, you look through a different pair of eyes at the world and the things you didn’t notice before or think, suddenly become a little clearer and they certainly did for me that night. Indian’s has got the reputation as the«Asian Hooters» where the waitresses are dressed in black tights, black short skirts, low tank tops and a feather in their hair like Pocahontas, and it’s become a local bar for many of the people growing up in this area. Simply known as «Indian’s, it’s known for a good hang out spot for just drinking different variations of Asian beer and munching on various fried, grilled snacks and other dishes. However, don’t just stereotype it just from the ways the waitresses are dressed. This place actually serves a lot of families, kids and locals as well. The whole place in general is uniquely decorated with Indian theme everything! From the wooden furniture picnic style table tops to the wooden benches to chairs you’re sitting in. On the wall are imitate log beams that go across the walls imitating wooden beams like you’re in a cabin(weird concept when I think about it now when teepees would be more fitting, but it’s harder to show that off than wooden beams). There are all types of Indian décor hung on the walls and shelves such as indian figures, dried pieces of fur and arrows and such that really gives it the vibe. In addition, they have huge flat screen TVs all along the walls for those nights where there’s a big game to watch so it’s a great place to catch the game with friends and food. Let’s be honest, people come here to drink from the different various pitchers of beer they offer, but big plus is that the food’s pretty good here as well! From Taiwanese sausages, chicken wings, stinky tofu, etc. They have a decent size menu of food for those that like traditional dishes to those that like the more unique foods as well. Parking is in the lot in the front, but there’s also street parking as well. Be careful around this area at night since there’s a local bar nearby as well that often has a check-point conveniently set up for big holiday weekends and big game nights as well!

4 stars for the experience. The ambiance here is awesome; truly top-notch. They always have the games I want to watch on one of their many TVs, and they are very accommodating. The place itself is decently big. People come here to eat good food and party, and this place delivers. I highly recommend this place to others who haven’t been. It’s definitely a unique and interesting experience. They do have stinky tofu, which stinks up the place at times if you sit near the kitchen. So if you’re like me, and don’t appreciate that smell in particular, ask to sit further away from the bar area/kitchen. All in all, the food is decent. The beer menu could really use some work, but I’ll give it a pass for now. I’ll be back and look forward to it.

Uncle Yu’s is the !!! We got there when it opened and the whole staff were very welcoming and got us a table right away. The menu is extensive and full of Taiwanese dishes like San Bei Ji(basil chicken) which is sooo good! We also were adventurous and got the stinky tofu which was pretty tasty too! This was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had lately. The staff were very attentive and made sure our drinks weren’t empty and that we had everything we need. We even got to see Uncle Yu which was really cool! Definitely recommend this place :)

Uncle Yu’s is one of my favorite go-to places in SGV. This is one of the cool spots I take my out of town friends, or just a random night of hang out to. It’s affordable for what you get, good Taiwanese food, and beer. The way I explain this restaurant is that it is a «Taiwanese version of Hooters», but with better food. The servers are dressed in their cute Indian outfits and feather headbands. The atmosphere is lively with cute wooden table and leafy décor. The main room is filled with ample television, which is great for sports nights. They serve beer by the half and full pitcher. The food ranges from skewers, fried food, stews, and stir fried dishes. Yes, they also have stinky tofu and also pork blood and big intestines! Another pro of this restaurant is that they have pictures of all the dishes loaded on an iPad for the newcomers to check out. Some fav dishes: — A-choy(veggie dish) — Pork intestine and blood with tofu and pickled cabbage in a hotpot stew — 3 flavored combo meat(on the salty side) — Tomato and egg soup(for the healthier option)

So after finally meeting up and getting stuck in rush hour traffic, my friends, Noël and Pablo and I decided to stop by the SGV and get some dinner. After a quick Unilocal search, I suggested this place, since it was something different from our usual choice of Sichuan cuisine or ramen and I also had bookmarked for awhile. Located in a tiny plaza along San Gabriel Blvd. and not too far from Valley Blvd., its easy to miss if you don’t look. Parking is tricky as it is a small lot shared with other businesses, but we were able to find one that night. When I first heard about this place, I was seeing pictures of Asian girls dressed up like Pocahontas in shorts, boots and a vest with a bare midriff, with numerous reviews claiming this was an Asian version of Hooters. Yet, on my visit, the ladies were all dressed up in black suits like they were businesswomen with just a headband with a feather sticking out. Only one girl looked different, wearing a short black dress and pantyhose with the headband, making her look more a casual flapper. But the servers there were very nice and attractive, just not dressed as I expected. I also saw Uncle Yu, though he looked more tired and worn out, as he just sat at a booth looking at papers, rather than the smiling, happy old man that the pictures here and in his ads show. Rundown of what we had: Shredded pork fried rice — it was basically sliced pork mixed in with yang chow rice that wasn’t even fried. Not bad, but I think we expected something better. Stir-fried tofu with pork — Not bad, but essentially it was nothing more than stir-fried tofu and bell peppers with maybe a dozen tiny slivers of pork hidden in it. 3 cup chicken — The dish that seems to be most recommend, I ordered the boneless version which was about $ 14. Served in a earthenware pot, it was basically cut up chicken cook along with slices of ginger, ginger and basil in a thick brown sauce. I liked this dish the most, though Pablo was not happy that he kept getting pieces of ginger instead of chicken a good portion of the time. The most annoying thing was that they completely forgot the 3 orders of lamb skewers I also ordered for my friends and I. After waiting what felt like an hour after we got the rest of our food, we said screw it and didn’t want to keep waiting around. When they brought the bill, it wasn’t even listed, even though our server wrote it down in front of us when we ordered. Don’t bother ordering the big bottle of Taiwan beer they sell for 6.99, as it’s only 4.5% alcohol. We went through 3 bottles in an hour and there was no buzz, so much as a shared disappointment for drinking dirty water disguised as beer. While the food wasn’t too bad, and the servers are pretty and very nice, don’t expect much in terms of service. It took a good 20 minutes just to get a server to stop by and greet us. Then it took 15 – 20 minutes for each individual dish and the server only stopped by once to offer Noël water. Finally we had to wait for some time for a server to pop up, so we could get our bill. Overall, its a decent restaurant/sports bar and I might be willing to come back and try their other dishes if they ever improve the service, but its definitely nothing like an Asian Hooters. So I really can’t recommend this place to anyone unless you like disappointment slowly served by pretty girls.

This place is like a Taiwanese suljib(means Korean bar) except it’s not Korean and you can eat stinky tofu with your beer instead of ddukboki! I love Taiwanese fooooood! Probably more than Korean food. There aren’t many late night Taiwanese places that serve alcohol around here so it’s nice that this place hits the spot. Plus they have League Pass so basketball is always playing on the tvs! When they said Indian themed restaurant, they straight up mean Native American Indians. The waitresses are dressed like Pocahontas lol. After trying a lot of the items on the menu, we usually order the same items now: Stinky tofu is always a must get! Soooo pungent and so delicious! Love the cabbage kimchi it comes with. Vegetable soup is also bomb! Comes with eggs, tomato, spinach, and tofu! It’s really hearty and comforting on a cold night. Fried shrimp is pretty bomb here. The shrimp is deep fried and then tossed in some garlic and jalapeños. No need to peel the shrimp! Just eat it whole. Pineapple fried rice is also really good here. Does a good job giving me my carb fix and pairs well with the other things we order. It does get super loud in here once in awhile. So beware of loud ass Asians!

I have been watching the TV commercial about Uncle Yu’s restaurant more than decade. Today I finally took my family to here for dinner! Food is good, beer is cold, and service is great! We even met Uncle Yu himself, and we took picture with him. Uncle is very nice, look is no chang over 10 years, and give us discount for the check since we are first time to visit this restaurant! We had good time and great food this time. We will tell all friends and family to visit Uncle Yu’s restaurant!

There were plenty of empty tables so we didn’t have a problem getting one. We sat around for a long time before someone give us a menu and take our orders. Food quality and taste are average. Service is a bit slow, maybe there were shortage of staffs on Friday night. We were seated next to a large crowd that didn’t handle their beer very well so there were a lot of yelling and screaming, out of control. Unpleasant overall dinner experience. Will not be returning.

I used to come to Indian more often, however quality of food, service, … are getting worse. Food is so salty and added lots of MSG, so I get a headache after being thirsty. Draft beer tastes a little different from original beer flavor. Few of my friends told me that they add water to draft beer, REALLY? Service, waitresses seem like they don’t care about service, they are not aggressive and nice. They don’t appreciate the tip, so I wonder giving over 20% of tip isn’t reasonable. I might visit there again, so I am hoping that they are improved by then.

My husband and I are downgrading our rating here from a 4-star to a 3-star experience, due to some food factors. While we’ve dined here over 7+ times in the past, most of our experiences with the food have been stellar. However, on our most recent visits, we’ve noticed a deterioration of some of their food items. In particular, we wanted to point out that: (1) Intestine + veggie soup: this dish is one of our favorites, and while the flavors are great, we’ve noticed that they BARELY give you any intestine pieces in the soup! There are only about 6 – 7 small pieces in there, and that’s it. It’s rather disappointing. When we used to come here and order this dish, there would be plenty of intestine floating in the soup and it was delicious. Now… not so much. Perhaps they are skimping out on the intestine? Who knows? But our request would be to «please give people more intestine in the soup!» :) Thank you. (2) Another gripe we have recently is that the dishes here are quite expensive. While they are tasty and flavorful(salty too), they are $$$. Each dish is at least $ 3 – 5 more expensive than if you were to go to another Taiwanese/Chinese restaurant down the street or somewhere else in SGV. Why? Other than these two concerns we have, everything else is quite alright with this restaurant. We still like the food for the most part, but wish it was less expensive, and please don’t skimp out on the intestine next time! :)

I use to come to Indian’s at least once a week with my friends but time has changed and I am just not into girls dressed up in indian costumes! So why the 2 stars? Well, the lady taking our order knew precisely I am a vegetarian and everything I ordered came with no meat and I thought they were taking very good care of us by even asking if Onion and garlic would be okay on the dishes. Later another girl comes out and brings out a dish and gave us such terrible attitude and said this dish COMES with meat, we had to pick it out one at a time… I mean, than why the heck did you offer it? She didn’t apologize and kind of said it like it was a matter of fact and that they were already doing us a huge favor! Rudeee! In the end we kept the dish but just had it sitting there… i later reminded her if she can please let us know ahead of time if dishes had meat in them and if it had to be picked out than i Don’t want it! …I mean I spoke to her in her native tongue to excuse any confusions!

At first glance, this place is looks pretty cool Good for big parties, large selection of food and alcohol. Food is pretty good, considering it’s a lot of Taiwanese street food. If you are a bit OCD like me though, look up and you’ll see that they never clean any of the dust which dangles on the signs, the shelves, nor the Kirin beer flags they have dangling from the ceiling. Since my party was sitting next right below the flags, I’m a thinking that the dust is being sprinkled on us and the food we are eating. Which makes me wonder about the sanitation of their kitchen. I’m not sure if the owner(who was there at the time, but seemingly a bit busy), has anyone read these posts, but there’s some useful commentary. Let’s see if anything changes If the dust situation is rectified the rating is easily a 4.

I recently came back to eat here for my friends bday and I can’t get over how delicious their sizzling tofu is. My previous review for this place was bad because when I ordered take out, the food was horrible. But when i actually ate at the restaurant, it was delicious. You must get their sizzling tofu; the sauce is amazing and I can tell they use a lot of butter in it. Everyone that tried it said it was delicious. It comes with veggies in it like mushrooms, bamboo, carrots, snow peas, onions. Their combination fried rice was also really good. I love the texture of their rice. It’s not soggy or soft, it was chewy and cooked to perfection. My boyfriend says their popcorn chicken is just okay, not as good as quicklys. I always just eat the basil in that dish and it was really salty, but still addicting to eat. Service is pretty good here. There are so many waitresses that it’s easy to flag someone down. They take Polaroid pictures of people celebrating their birthdays at the restaurant and post them on their wall. They take 2 pictures so go get to keep on for yourself as well. The bad thing is that everything on their menu is pretty expensive for Chinese food. The sizzling tofu is $ 13 just by itself, and I was looking at their menu and every entrée is over $ 10.

Uncle Yu’s! You are the strangest asian restaurant… ever. Don’t think I’ll ever get the concept of Asian girls dressed in Indian costumes… but sure, I’ll take it because the food is delicious! My experience was great. They take call ahead seating(how convenient) and can accommodate large parties. The food should be enjoyed family style. We ordered the 3 cup clay pot, the sweet and sour fish fillet, the basil fried squid(like calamari but definitely different due to the hint of basil) and the combo platter(practically everything and anything that is «yakitori-like» on the menu comes in this platter). In fact, stinky tofu comes on the combo platter — maybe you love it or most likely, you’ve never tried it. I DARE you to try it!(Do it, do it!!) I would order everything again. I eat out a lot but the flavors here were unique… indescribable(probably due to all the beer and sake I drank) … so best advice is just to come experience it for yourself! You won’t regret it. It’s a perfect place to throw back a few drinks and grub on «street style» food but definitely not a place to do some good people watching(no offense, but tons of old Asian men just hanging around here)

Great place for late night eats with a rowdy bunch of friends. Definitely a fun drinking establishment: grilled nibbles, pitchers of beer, and dice games. I’m not sure if people brought their own games, but almost every other group had a set of dice. Super fun environment with the kitschy interior and cute girl servers in tiny skirts. I thought it was cool that Uncle Yu actually walks around the place and makes sure everything is well. As for food, bf and I started off with the«odorous tofu,» which came in 3 medium-size chunks. They had a nice crisp skin and had a funky smell but tasted pretty good. If we’re going out for Taiwanese food, stinky tofu is a must. We also had the 3-sauce combo pot, which included chicken, squid and intestines. The sauce was very tasty but the dish definitely needs to be eaten with some rice, so we ordered sausage fried rice to go with it. Everything was well seasoned, and we had plenty of leftovers. I loved the little whole garlic cloves in the 3-sauce pot.

I really like the ambience of this place and it’s a pretty neat theme. The food here is delicious. I really like their three cup chicken. It’s really flavorful. And I think the squid lips(I hope that was what it was called) was pretty good, surprisingly. The staff were friendly. It’s nice to kick it here with friends for a meal and of course, beer. Pitchers and pitchers of beer this way please!

Perplexed? I think that’s the main feeling I see in the eyes of new customers. «This is a Taiwanese restaurant?» as they walk in, extra confused. Especially because they were expecting Asian Indian, but show up and it’s Native American Indian, with Taiwanese food and servers! Well, once you get over the perplexual(my new word) feeling of the theme and genre of the restaurant, you can actually enjoy the food! I think the food is delicious. It hits it on the nail with virtually every dish. Here’s what I think you should order: Sweet and sour fish filet — definitely one of the top dishes here. It’s just like any other sweet and sour fish at any other restaurant, but just half a level up! Three Cup Chicken(or combo) — very flavorful and really authentic tasting. The Skewer Platter — Everything was good on this platter, but if you can’t get the entire platter, atleast get the fried skin and grilled corn. Those were delicious! Basil fried squid/chicken/anything — the flavor here is pretty spot on! Overall, I think I’ve always had great service here. I’ve always enjoyed drinking and watching the games here. Many people complain about the fact that there are Asian wangsters here and the theme is weird. But honestly, they can’t control the customer demographic, and what do you expect if you serve drinking food and cheap drinks? Lastly, people criticize the theme and say it’s weak, but I honestly think it’s quirky and unique. If you’ve been here, you’ll never forget that you were here– that’s what you call a lasting impression.

Three Cup Chicken. 三杯雞。 That’s all you need to order. It’s just that good. The soup we got was really good. It had winter melon in it. They do use MSG is be aware. But so does all the other chinese places. We got the Fried Big Intestine. That was pretty legit too. The pepper gave it a really nice flavor. The veggies were HELLA salty. I don’t remember what it was called. Service was fast and efficient. It looks like this place gets crowded late night! Be aware!

Great food! The sampler platter was a good intro to a bunch of skewers, so next time we know what we are getting. The lamb and beef ones were the best to me. The pineapple fried rice was also good. The setting was also fun. It’s a pretty chillax place to hang out with pitchers of beer. The waitresses were also friendly and said hi to the baby in our party. Uncle Yu was there too! Fun times as always in this place! Pocahontas waitresses, the iconic Uncle’s Yu, indian decoration and wood furnitures. We ordered a lot of dishes: chicken skin, chicken heart, chicken knees, chicken tail, squid, chicken wings, stinky tofu, eggplants, mabotofu, etc. Heineken beer and cold sake are the best companion. If you have birthday, they will take pictures of your group with Polaroid and put into the wall of fame. If you know Uncle’s Yu and he stopped by your table, you’ll get VIP discount. If you keep drinking and drinking until you puke, you dont drink responsibly. Go get cab please! If you know the waitress, you got 1 promo pitcher beer for free. If you want to have good time with friends, come by!
