Since 1996 Novotny has been an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and Appraiser’s National Association (ANA) since 1993. These professional appraisal associations provide training and testing. They establish qualifications, standards and a code of ethics. They require that appraisers be experienced and establish criteria for claims of expertise. When all qualifying requirements are fulfilled the society or association awards an appraisal designation that provides a basis for appraisal qualifications and experience. Novotny attended a weekend program at the College for Appraisers for a year and studied many types of antiques, collectibles and personal property in 1993. In 1997 he completed and passed the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) six day Antiques and Residential Contents Specialty Course It is his personal rule to study antiques or appraisals daily… He never misses.
