I always stop by this place for the duck whenever I’m in LA. Reminds me of what I had in China a few years ago. Give their skewers a try too. But bring your appetite – you need to order at least 4 skewers, but you can mix and match different ones if you’d like. I am not a fan of Sichuan cuisine in general, so I’ll leave that to other reviewers. On the minus side the service can be a bit spotty, but not awful Overall the duck alone is worth a visit.

And okay Chinese food place. Typical Salty and greasy chinese food. And expect the food materials not so fresh and of high quality. Nothing special about it.

After passing by this place so many times and thinking how shady this place looks(Sorry…) I finally went to give it a try at my parents suggestion. Turns out they had been here before but it was owned by someone else. So the parking sitch is pretty hectic. There are two parking lots, one north and one south of the restaurant and remember that you must drive north on Rosemead to get into the parking lots because there is an island in the middle of the road. The decoration is pretty typical of a Chinese restaurant. It was a mish-mash of pictures of dishes on the wall, random decorations that mimic high-end restaurants, large round tables, and other advertisements on the walls for other dishes. As for the food, I must say the popular items are the Peking Duck done three ways, the fried fish with sweet and sour tomato sauce, and this combination skewer appetizer. Peking Duck: Roasted well but I would prefer if they rendered the fat a bit more but I think they were able to slice it thin enough that you didn’t feel like you were eating chunks of fat. The«tortillas» were good and different from the usual buns you get at other restaurants. The hoisin sauce is super salty so put a small dollop will do. They used the bones to make a napa cabbage and tofu soup. Very bland but also very game-y. It needed something to mask that taste. Finally, they chopped up the meat into a super fine dice and made it into a lettuce wrap. OK as well, nothing too special but the meat was super diced so texturally, it was a bit strange. The fried fish with sweet and sour sauce was the star of the night. It was pretty much boneless and for $ 40, it was a good deal according to my parents because they used a high-end fish. The meat was tender and it didn’t taste dry. The sauce was drenching the fish but i crispy skin stayed crispy. A must order that can feed 2 – 3 people. I didn’t try the skewers combination but I saw other tables around us try it. Seems interesting and a hit. This place is pretty popular and I can see the draw and maybe I’m just not a fan of the duck game-iness that I don’t really taste when I get Cantonese roasted duck. I probably won’t be coming back but I would say you should try it to make your own opinion. Also, seems like pitchers of beer go well with duck because half of the tables ordered them. Beer and Duck, why not?

Food was OK but experience was terrible. I don’t eat spicy, so it was quite an experience. I found some of the dishes a bit over priced and the overall taste was salty. I went close to 4PM to beat the dinner rush, and the place had 1 customer. I thought they had dimmed the lights because they wanted a more intimate ambience however I found out later that it was because some of the staff were sleeping across the room. It got more awkward when someone kept shushing us while we chatted over our meal. We weren’t talking loud. The staff acted like we were a nuisance as opposed to paying customers. Although they accept card according to Unilocal, they kept asking for us to pay in cash. Again, okay food overall… just terrible service, ambiance, and experience. Hope they better!

This place sucks. I came here once. Kinda like their Beijing duck. Today when I came at 7, they don’t have anything. Sea cucumber. Duck. Fish. Even drinks. OMG! Should not change your level to that low! Ok. Never come back. Ruin my new year dinner. So bad.

Most disgusting peking duck I’ve ever tried. I’m not trying to bash or anything but the whole peking duck is so wrong. No bun? Little skin? So oily and the skins arent crunchy enough. I didn’t try other dishes but if you are planning to come here for the duck, then i would suggest you to save your money and go to other places.

This was a terrible experience. Very sad to have eaten here. Should have known… Restaurant was empty. But I figured that with four stars it would be good. Went there for a late lunch on Saturday. Ever single dish was terrible. So bad I didn’t even eat. Lamb skewers were undercooked and had little taste. Dumplings were overcooked and falling apart. Kung pao chicken was covered in a caramelly ketchup tasting sauce. I had no idea you could get chinese food this bad in the San Gabriel Valley.

My wife and I have eaten dinner here three times in the past month. The most recent on Tuesday January 19th. We have ordered the Peking Duck each time and my wife has also tried a couple of the braised fresh fish dishes. All that we have ordered have been FABULOUS! My Chinese wife an I both love Peking Duck, and in fact, we have experienced this dish at the highest rated duck house in Beijing, China – Quanjude Qianmen Restaurant. Additionally, we have tried this dish often, at other restaurants throughout the state, including San Francisco, Sacramento, and San Diego. This was equal to, or better than many others we have tried here in CA! While every restaurant will have its own unique(proprietary) method of preparation and presentation, we found the Peking(or Beijing) Duck served here, to be nothing short of excellent! ***** The flavor, texture, and moisture of the meat, was absolutely perfect, and the condiments were also excellent. I would like to mention too, we found the [portion] of Duck to be substantial! Moreover, I prefer the thin pancakes served at this place, rather than the fat buns served with the duck at other restaurants. I am not sure why some of the other [few] negative comments appear here? Possibly due to immaturity, or a troll from a competing restaurant?! LOL. It is true, that the duck served in some other restaurants in CA is very poor, and I have left at least one previous review in that regard. However, this restaurant serves the best Peking/Beijing Duck, I have had in all of our state. Yes, the parking lot here is small… but so what?! I am reviewing not only the quality and freshness of the duck and the accouterments, but also the presentation, sliced by the chef in your view, and served up so beautifully! Next, I will advise that the service was excellent and fully attentive! Period. My wife and I travel up to the San Gabriel valley area very often, and when I want my Chinese roast duck, this is the place we will go to now! Again, the other dishes we have tried here are excellent too!

The service was so horrible, the cumin lamb is good, but other than that just awful. Some people gave a good review for the duck, I don’t get it. The duck tastes so awful, so much fat that I almost threw up. I think that they have simply never tried the real one before. I’m sorry that the duck had to die here. Now, the duck soup. It tasted like the duck was taking a bath in the soup and then it flew away so that it didn’t have to be cooked here.

Food was awful. Service was awful. Parking lot only has at max 7 spaces. Don’t come here. On the placards on each table, they have a discount incentive to write them a good review and if you pay in cash.

Pretty good food. Dip the duck beast roasted skin in sugar. Duck is very neatly cut. I would like more skin to be cut off, rather than skin with meat together but that’s just my personal preference.

The taste and standard has dropped precipitously at this restaurant. Also the patronage has dropped drastically as well. The lamb, octopus and beef tendon skewers were darn well inedible. Will not be returning. I think they lost their last chef. What a shame, this was one of my top favorite restaurants. It will probably not be in business for long.

I just found out last night that they changed their name and I guess the ownership as well. I reserved a table because it thought it would be packed like how it used to be. But when we got there at 6pm there was only one other table. I realized that the decoration has changed and the menu has changed. Even though they still have the three style Peking duck but it was $ 45 not $ 30 like before. They don’t have the prefixed menu to choose from anymore. Let’s talk about the food. We were there for the Peking duck and that’s what they were favorite for I guess. The duck was considered dry last night and they didn’t really cut it in front of us. My niece said someone was cutting it in the next table but I thought they could have done it closer to us just for show. The duck soup was good but too much black pepper! The third style dish was the duck meat chopped in little piece to be wrapped with lettuce. That one I liked the most. Then we ordered some lamb sticks and it was only $ 1.50 and pretty delicious. You can check out some other dishes that I have ordered in the photos. Overall the food was okay but not as good as before. The service was so so. We were asked if we paid in cash then we will get free drink something sour tea do we agreed. Then the server only gave us one jar and each person can only drink as little as the tea in a tea cup. When we asked for more, we were told that we had to pay extra. I was thinking other places that give free drink would at least give everyone a decent size not just one jar that can give two full cups. The bill came out to be $ 107 and we packed some of the food home so the price is still considered reasonable. Will I come again? Not sure at this point.

I consider myself somewhat of an expert on Sichuan cuisine, so I’m always eager to review a new Sichuan restaurant(of which there seem to be many lately, following the roaring success of Chengdu Taste). One of the specialties here is the ma la xiang guo and the lamb pot, both of which are quite authentic and delicious — the lamb pot in particular had big, hearty chunks of tender lamb. Pork belly with preserved vegetables were disappointing — the distinct preserved vegetable taste was barely detectable. I also ordered a dish that was basically a huge omelette with chunks of pork tenderloin covered in sweet and sour sauce. Kind of heavy and too sweet, and seemed unauthentic like an Egg Foo Young, but I still ate quite a bit of it. Dan dan noodles were not good at all, which is unfortunate, because it’s one of the primary metrics by which I judge every Sichuan restaurant. Prices are also slightly higher than the typical comparable restaurant. Funny note: the restaurant was playing interesting music choices for a Chinese family restaurant, like Whistle by Flo Rida. Maybe they assumed most of their customers wouldn’t understand it.

We had a roast duck, soup, and stir fried greens. We also ordered some cold dishes from the appetizer bar. They were all very good. To top it off, the customer service was excellent. The other dishes looked good also. I’d definitely would come back to try it out.

Ate here on Xmas eve, and lucky, we dined early as we got one of the last tables available for those without a reservation. Most of the wait staff speak English, so no worries for non-Mandarin speaking people about ordering. Service was decent but became difficult to get once they got busy as the evening progressed. We ordered several dishes to try and enjoyed the skewers… both lamb and squid, and both were tasty and seasoned well. The house special pancake was outstanding — so light and crispy on the top. Only the bottom layer was difficult to eat as that’s where excess oiled drained to from being pan fried in oil. Cumin Lamb was also well seasoned. Nice prominent cumin and lamb flavor without the gaminess. The mushrooms and vegetables was not a spicy dish, but it was prepared wonderfully and was delicious as well. The pan fried leek dumplings were good but could be better. The wrap used for the leek dumplings could have been pan fried a little long to make it crispier. Perhaps the weakest dish was the fish filet in chili oil. Even though spicy, the depth of flavor in the chili oil was inferior to what we had at some of the other Szechuan restaurants. Since I didn’t see the Beijing Duck on the menu, I will have to come back and give that a try, as well as other dishes we haven’t ordered such as the Hot & Sour Noodles.
