Wonderbug Adventures is a parent-​child nature discovery program that offers guided nature outings for toddlers, preschoolers and their grown-​ups.

We provide guided adventures to different Bay Area ecosystems and the exploration of nature themes through hands on learning activities.

History

Established in 2008.

Wonderbug Adventures was created by two Bay Area moms, Hillary Blum and Melissa Walton, both with backgrounds in environmental education and a passion for hands-​on learning. Hillary and Melissa worked together for many years at a local environmental education organization prior to beginning Wonderbug Adventures.

I cannot say enough great things about Wonderbug Adventures. This is as good as city nature programs (or any nature program) get. Hillary is a wonderful, captivating and intelligent teacher. My 2 year old loves the classes. We look forward to getting out, exploring parks and experiencing the creative teaching techniques Wonderbug has to offer. So far my favorite class has been the Feathered Friend class, so give that one a try. But, I cannot stress this enough, all the classes are GREAT!

I have only been to a couple of classes so far, but have been incredibly impressed! The ladies running this program clearly know what they are doing, both in terms of organizing, but also in terms of their body of knowledge. They seriously know their stuff (I learned so much!), AND they know how to present it so that it makes sense to toddlers. Our classes have been when the weather was crummy and rainy, but it was so fun to be out in foul weather, all bundled up, learning about nature. We live in a naturally beautiful area and I feel lucky to have this kind of resource to help me ignite a passion for nature within my child.

My daughter and I had the absolute pleasure of attending a WonderBug Adventure class. I was completely blown away by the class. From the registration process to the confirmation emails, everything was done meticulously. Once we arrived at the venue (which was easy due to the great directions and parking info), the teacher had thought of everything. She had signs telling dog owners that there were toddlers and little kids at play and that they should leash their dogs. And the program itself was completely engaging. In the last 3+ years I have attended countless programs for kids, and this was top notch. The pacing was perfect, the teacher didn’t once lose the attention of the kids or the moms. The activities were so fun and my daughter felt both challenged and empowered by everything thrown at her. The information also totally sunk in for her– she’s been talking about butterflies since the class!
