Great leather. Joe was so helpful. Great selection of leather… everything. my boyfriend Lawrence bought me a beautiful leather jacket for a great price!

I have purchased two dresses from WCL so far and agree their customer service is one of the standout attributes. You will be treated like royalty for sure, I tend to downplay what I am all about or who will be at the parties I am wearing their stuff to because I don’t like attention, but I still come away feeling like I am part of some fancy WCL club. They also do custom work so you can get most of the items in whatever color you like within a reasonable amount of time.
You would not know from the site or from a casual walkthrough, but they do have fetishy things as well or can make whatever you like. It’s hard to find good quality leather gear for women since Madame S closed, but I think you could put together a classy and sexy ensemble from WCL. Just tell them what you need and the two main people there will do their best to accommodate.
Lastly, I will agree their prices are high. They seem to do sales fairly frequently so there’s no harm in stopping in the see what you like and find out when the next sale is.

West coast leather rocks! My GF and I stopped in to see our friend Skip and can I say we were treated like rock stars. We purchased 4 jackets, 2 for her & 2 for me. We each found one that fit like it was made for us and the others needed some custom alterations. He shipped them directly to our home in Chicago about 2 weeks later. If you are in the market for custom, stylish leather, west coast leather is the first and last place you will need to go to.

Ah-​mazing leather work and customer service. Tried on this gorgeous suede dress and couldn’t quite zip it up, they immediately offered to take my measurements and have a new dress made for me. The quality and value of the custom fit is incredible.

Walking down Grant street I happened to look over and see a nice selection of «Rogue» shoes on an outside display that I’d previously seen outside the building next door back when «Rogue» was there. It was no longer there, but it seems that the brand is now being sold in West Coast Leather.
I went in and was greeted by Joe, who was very friendly and helpful! I told him «I’m looking for something VERY specific… I’m looking for a very very thin leather coat… something that’s almost more of a shirt than a coat because I already have a thicker leather coat.» He directed me to EXACTLY what I was looking for… I only ended up not purchasing it because I was thinking it would be around $ 200 – 300, and it was closer to $ 900. That just shows my naïveté on the subject (nice clothes are something I’m only recently starting to purchase more of). Now I know exactly what I want and where to purchase it along with how much it is. He also showed me a selection of $ 300 – 400 coats that better fit my price range, but I didn’t care for any of them as I am very specific about what I’m looking for and already fell in love with the first coat I was shown.
I then mentioned the shoes that were outside and went up to look at them. Both Joe and Skip, who introduced himself as the owner, told me about some great sales they were having this coming weekend on some shoes. I browsed a bit and fell in love with a gorgeous pair of $ 300 Rogue dress shoes (brown leather & canvas). I was worried it wasn’t going to fit as the size was smaller than what I normally wear, but voilà! They fit! Joe & Skip weren’t surprised as they said that brand tends to run bigger. I couldn’t have been happier and thought for about 2 seconds and said «I’ll take them!»
I was extremely happy with the service, selection, quality, and in the case of these shoes, the price! I’ll definitely be back and recommend others as well! Thanks guys!

Great product, rude and condescending staff.
I’m in the store shopping for a very expensive leather jacket for my wife and possibly for myself as well. Our friend asks if the store has a restroom. The woman employee rudely said no and the male employee gave us some BS line about it being «city policy for restrooms to be customer only.» First, if you don’t want people to use the store restroom, just say you don’t have a public one. No big deal. Second, don’t treat me like I’m an idiot. «City policy?» Really?
When my wife heard the rude comment she immediately said «lets go.» We immediately left the store. The store lost some potential big sales by being rude.
Based on other reviews, I’m not the only one who finds the sales staff rude. I guess I needed to tape my Amex card to my forehead before I walked in.
4 stars for the product. Zero stars for the sales staff.

This review is past due. Leave cc at home. Yvette is the best. I went to get a jacket. Just one! I bought 3 and an awesome leather dress. I am not a leather girl but I am now. Funny I left my purchases there while I ran to buy a purse and my husband calls asking where was I he needed me and my card at this leather store. When I went back and walked in we had a good laugh. He had 3 jackets. We are living and loving the best fitting softest leather at the best prices.

Where else can you buy a coat that comes with a lifestyle? How about a black, floor length, fitted, three button Matrix design that stops traffic? Matching black bag? Yes, the only matching bag in the world. Suck on that, Gucci. Or a Pyrite design short, fitted, full leather jacket with real silver schillings for buttons? Got the matching belt, too… the only matching belt in the world. Oh, my God, some of the designs in this hand-​made shop just make you cry, they’re so sexy, so totally classic-​cool. Not cool for today, cool for eternity. Take the platinum card, be prepared to blow the budget (unless your rich and then, whatever) but for the rest of us — get into that store and let them put you into sexy/​fun!

If you’re looking for cheap leather from China or even pleather, this isn’t your kind of store. If you’re looking for classic well built, made to last a lifetime, this is your home. I’m not shy about spending on clothing and in the end, one well made piece is equal to 20 from asia. The difference is the cheap pieces will cost more over time and still look like something from Ross.
Well worth the spend.

I went to WCL looking for a leather jacket with an oversized drapey collar. First I searched the store myself. No luck. Then I asked the manager/​owner. He had SUCH a tough time understanding my description, looking at me like I was crazy. I’ve seen the style in several magazines, so I know it exists. The problem is that the leather clothing in his store is outdated. The store has two personalities: tacky 90s garb, and hell’s angel-​biker attire. It doesn’t really belong nestled amongst Banana Republic and Shotwell boutique. And I was really put off by the manager. He was aggressive and loud, and made me feel inferior. Like, «If it’s not here, it must not exist.» …Hardly.

My experience may be unique, though it may not. Product quality and selection is fine. I ended up with a pair of cashmere lined, Italian leather gloves. We all know the cheapest pair will run you $ 50 from a mass produced, machine driven production line somewhere across the water. We can generally then expect that anything worth value will cost more than that «cheapest value assessed».
I walked into West Coast Leather, dressed quite well, and was treated like a homeless guy down in the BART station… at first. Dressed in the finest denim, Peluso Napoli monks, scarved in vintage wool and jacketed in a flashy French pea coat, I don’t feel I should be turned away when asking for nice things, but no one should be — how dare you judge someone by their looks. Here’s how it went:
Me: «I’m looking for some *cashmere lined Italian leather* gloves*.»
Gent: «We don’t have any gloves. No gloves.»
Friend: «Where would you suggest we go then, if not a leather goods shop?»
Gent: «Banana Republic or ~some other big-​name retailer — not important~.»
Me: «…»
Gent: «We do have some *very* expensive Italian leather gloves lined with cashmere, you probably wouldn’t be interested. They’re very expensive.»
Me & Friend: «… …»
I ended up purchasing them, because I wanted them, and didn’t want to wait 1 – 3 weeks for them in the mail. I wanted them for the snowy, rainy trip along the Pacific Coast that I was currently on. I paid a little more than I would have online ($ 100), but I wanted them right then. I would suggest you spend your money elsewhere, lest you need something this moment, and you happen to be around the corner. The gloves are wonderful, warm, and quality — as to be expected from hand-​crafted goods. The gloves are the only reason this place gets two stars from me, and not one.

Great service. Great products. A little high on the price scale, and a little strange on the fit, however the service makes me want to come back again.
Apparently this store is closing though, however fear not, they have another location.

Skip is a rock star and he can make you look like one too! I purchased a classic motorcycle jacket off the rack that was on sale — $ 100 bucks off — which is a great deal for this classic style done in super supple leather (lambskin). I love their approach because even though the jacket was off the rack, they want it to fit you perfectly, so next it gets custom tailored. In fact, I didn’t like this one part that dangles around the collor so Skip customized the jacket so that the lapel snapsdown. And he only charged me about $ 20 to do it!
The customer service is absolutely fantastic. In addition to Skip, he has surrounded himself with a rockstar team. There was a woman there that had helped me with the same jacket a couple of months before, when I decided not to buy it on the spot. Another Unilocaler hit the nail on the head — she was super friendly and helpful even though I didn’t end up buying anything at the time.
I’ve had the jacket for about a month and I constantly get compliments on it. I have been very pleased with the quality of the construction.

You know images is everything and first appearance you got to wow people. I am impressed by West Coast Leather.
I’m just an average Asian girl and… OMG, when I wore one of West Coast Leather’s dresses and corsets to my many events, all eyes are on me!!! That is how great the leather looks on people. It made me look hotter, sexier, and tougher than I am. It can make you look good too.
From what I saw, West Coast Leather have a lot of classy as well as super sexy outfits and many other styles for all types of people. I highly recommend coming to the store.
I was told that West Coast Leather have two stores in San Francisco:
one in West Field mall and the other at the corner of Grant Street & Sutter Street in the financial district of SF.
Yes, some of the stuff is on the higher end, but you get what you pay for and it’s all about the brand. ;) West Coast Leather is a well known brand in the city and several other cities. West Coast Leather has been featured in several magazines… including playboy magazine. Even the celebrities are wearing WCL brand. Several celebrities such as Cher, Nicolas Cage, etc. are also wearing WCL.
If you wanna look good, you should check out this store. I really like the style and the service is amazing. The Owner, Skip, he is super nice and so are his employees. Everyone is so helpful at the store and so very nice and friendly. They always make me feel welcome even if I did not end up buying anything.
For all these reasons and more, I am impressed, therefore, I give West Coast Leather a 5 star rating. This brand got my attention and endorsement for sure when I become rich and famous. :)

I came by West Coast Leather yesterday after seeing my gf with a super sexy leather corset. I walked in the store with the fear of over spending because of what my gf told me how much she spent on her corset.
I was greed by Skip and the one friendly employee (dont remember his name). They were very patient with me and got me whole bunches of diff corsets to try on. I finally purchased a snake skin corset with great bargain. The corset is diff, unique and the way it was designed makes my body looks super slim:).
I love the most about the corset is that I wont see tones of girls wearing the same thing like the stuffs I bought from bebe. The price is a little more than the mass production from bebe but you get what you pay for. I am sure will come back, not soon enough though

I have many of the same thoughts as Dwigt, but I wanted to elaborate a little on the quality. I’ve never bought a leather jacket before so I walked into West Coast Leather on a whim. The Regional Manager, Joe Crane, showed me this beautiful lambskin motorcycle jacket that I bought after much debate.
There are two caveats on quality. One, Joe said that the jacket was manufactured in Hong Kong. When I went home and checked, the tag said «Made in China.» Whoa, what?
Okay, not everything made in China is bad, so I didn’t mind too much. After three days of wear, walking from class to class, I found brown threads dangling from my sleeves. Oh no.
Today, I found that one of the buttons attaching the hoodie to the rest of the jacket had broken off; all that was left was the thread that used to hold it in place. I half expect the elbow pads to come off in a month
I found the service to be quite good, which is why I’ve decided to give this store 2 stars.. Quality though, which is what I really care about, is unfortunately lacking.
EDIT: A couple weeks ago, I went back to West Coast Leather and brought them my damaged hoodie. I’m grateful that they easily exchanged it for another one. Their concern for the satisfaction of their customers is good enough for me to change my mind.

I find «leather culture» to be intimidating, but my fiancé kept insisting I should look into buying a leather jacket. Most leather jackets I’ve seen are either for actual motorcycle riding, or have way too many details for my taste. And leather jackets I’ve seen for women usually look like they came from the early ‘90s, as they’re usually big and boxy looking.
I was running errands at the mall a couple weekends ago and decided to head into this store. Sure, the store window boasted fashions fit for rock ‘n’ roller types (think Cris Angel), and I’m definitely not that cool, but I thought I’d give it a shot anyway.
Toward the middle of the store, there were racks of these beautiful, simple, subtly detailed lambskin motorcycle-​style jackets. This was more my speed. The owner of the store (Skip) came over to help me, and it was clear that unlike most other leather places, his business specializes in fitting women’s leather (though their selection of men’s leather was good too). He gave me very attentive service without being pushy. He was just friendly, down-​to-​earth, and took a lot of pride in the quality of his merchandise.
The jacket I wanted was dark brown, fit me like a glove (accentuating my better features, minimizing my less than fab features), was a perfect length, and was on sale. Unfortunately I’ve been living pretty thin lately so I had to put it back on the rack. Skip promised me that if I came back for the jacket, he would honor the sale price even after the sale.
Unbeknownst to me, my fiancé came in a few days later to buy the jacket for me as a wedding present. Skip remembered him, kept his promise about the price of the jacket, and gave him a gift box for the jacket, along with a hanger and garment bag to protect the it (since my fiancé wasn’t sure how soon he was going to give me the jacket). Again, great customer service! (Obviously, I have the jacket now, as I know all this.)
These jackets are very well made, and the leather is ridiculously soft. If you’re interested in buying a leather jacket, this place is definitely worth a stop! No, it’s not cheap, but it’s quality, and quality costs (and lasts a long time).

What a great place for all of your leather needs. Unfortunately I just purchased a leather jacket but i should have definitely gone to WCL because their selection is awesome. I definitely plan to go back when its time for me to find a leather jacket in brown!!!

I decided to go in because I have a weakness for furs and they seemed to have a good selection. Plus, the sign advertising 10 — 60% off gave me hope that there was a bargain to be had.
As soon as I walked in, the employee came out from behind the counter. He’s probably about 45, 20 years too old to be sporting the muscle tee and vest look. He greeted me and I smiled at him and thought that would be the end of it and I could continue my browsing. No such luck. He decided to follow me around the store, watching over my shoulder. Every time I touched something, even though I was being delicate, he would say, «That’s VERY expensive,» in a tone that clearly implied my inability to afford it.
Now, I understand that furs are indeed expensive, and I also understand that I look quite a bit younger than I am (hell, at my own bachelorette party, a bouncer attempted to take my ID, claiming it was a fake). However, these two things combined cannot automatically give him a clear indication of my ability to purchase their merchandise. As it turns out, I am perfectly capable of meeting their price and had found a piece I was rather smitten with. I didn’t buy it at the time because I was annoyed with the treatment I was receiving and just left the store.
So a couple days later, I went back and figured I would speak to a manager. If the manager treated me better than the employee I dealt with, I’d make a purchase and everyone would go away happy. No such luck. Not only did I first have to deal with the same employee I encountered before to get to a manager, the manager didn’t even seem to listen to me, offered no apology and I just went away angrier than I came in.
