Specialties

We are educators dedicated to providing you with natural, whole language immersion experiences that make leaning Spanish rewarding, satisfying, and fun, while you are achieving real linguistic goals. Our teachers come from many countries and backgrounds, and have the common goal of helping you achieve fluency. We are based in San Francisco, California and Oaxaca, Mexico, but we will travel to your site if you have a group!

We offer uniquely fun and challenging spanish courses: WEEKEND en español® total immersion Spanish Retreats, WEEKEND Half-​Day and One-​Day Spanish Workshops, weekday afternoon and evening SMALL GROUP CLASSES, private lessons and custom corportate packages. We also offer conversation parties, trips abroad, and educational materials (see below) – all for the student seeking to learn Spanish, to strengthen communication skills, for work here and abroad, and for the joy of personal saitisfaction in increased self-​expression and communication.

History

Established in 1988.

We started by just doing Weekend Retreats, which is still the cornerstone of our activity, and something completely unique to us. But we quickly saw that people needed a regular place to take weekly classes and private lessons, something that would suit the committed student, the sophisticated traveller, the culturally and linguistically curious. Since then we have developed courses of study for all kinds of professions – medical, education, law enforcement, art, movement – and for all levels and ages of learners. We have added a wide variety of types of services, ranging from custom workshops for companies, schools, or families, conducting bilingual meetings for companies with Spanish-​speaking employees, groups for kids, to Total Immersion Programs in Mexico and other Spanish-​speaking countries, cooking classes, tutoring, translation, presentation and test-​preparation. In 2004 we were able to open our office and school at the new site at 1998 Bush, our very own building!

Business Owner

Ronda holds a B.A. in Spanish from Vassar College and an M.A. in Romance Languages from the University of California at Berkeley. An extensive traveller throughout the Spanish-​speaking world, she has led groups to Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Costa Rica.

Before establishing WEEKEND en español® in 1988, Ronda taught the Spanish language and cultures at the elementary, secondary and college levels, in both public and private schools, and she has been a teacher trainer in many settings. After two years at the University of Wisconsin-​Green Bay, and six years in the St. Paul Minnesota Public Schools, she returned to her native San Francisco. Back in the Bay Area since 1977, Ronda has taught at SF University High School, SF Day School, Mills College, and World College West. Through WEEKEND en español® she has converted hundreds of adults – business owners, managers, teachers, doctors, nurses, civil servants, and many others – into enthusiasts of Spanish and its related cultures.
