Description

Specialties

Patient, creative teacher with sense of humor who uses a flexible but well crafted method combined with exploration and invention. Pop, rock, blues, classical, jazz. I’ve been teaching for over 25 years, still enjoy it, and enjoy sharing what I know about music. Excellent at helping you use your ear and play with intuition. Lessons are in piano (all levels), guitar (beg.) drums (beg), ear training, theory, songwriting, and freeway building. I know all styles, am dang good at rock, blues/jazz, classical and use free play and improvisation extensively. Work with lots of young kids, singers who accompany themselves, and people of all ages who are in bands, and I help them hone their rock chops.

I create and publish many student pieces, and have developed an entire Ear Training program. My studio is equipped with many keyboards, drums, guitars and a recording studio.

History

Established in 1988.

WackoWorld opened in 1988 in Bernal Heights and is a teaching studio and a recording studio. It is located just off Cortland St. in Bernal, and was recently renovated into one large room. Numerous artists are produced here, as well as 25 – 30 students a week who learn about piano, recording, music theory, improvisation and whatever else comes up. I write (and publish) many of my own student music pieces, and each year there are that many more new tunes to share.

Meet the Business Owner

Erik W.

Business Owner

Erik Ian Walker has been teaching piano and musicianship since 1982 here in San Francisco. In addition to his own studio he has taught at Blue Bear School of Music and is currently on the faculty at the Community Music Center. When very young Erik was inspired by all keyboard music (Dave Brubeck, The Animals, church organ) and also mechanical sounds, such as a noisy furnace, or a typewriter. He has always explored the combination of natural and electronic sounds, and through this study of the nature of sound has come to a deep understanding of the emotional connection to the building blocks of music.

Erik is a producer for recording artists, a composer for film, theater and dance, and performs regularly in San Francisco.
