We also sell specialty food items including olives, tapenade, sauces, crackers, pasta’s, truffle products, fig products, chutney, mustard, jams and snacks; plus a few unique kitchen items. The tasting process is a fun and engaging experience that will surprise and delight almost everyone, but is especially appreciated by foodies.

Translating literally as «from the cask,» VOM FASS offers a truly novel experience for all who love to sample the finest and most flavorful products from around the globe. VOM FASS offers exclusive cask-​aged vinegars, exquisite oils, select wines, and spirits and liqueurs, direct from the cask. We take pride in selling all our products in a variety of quantities and dispensing them into several selections of traditional and elegant bottles. Each bottle is inscribed with a special message, or simply with details of their contents and, upon request, beautifully wrapped — compliments of VOM FASS. As always, our customers are encouraged to return with their clean and dry bottles for a refill! Business Owner

Adelaide was a nurse at the hospital in Cannes France for over 15 years. When she married her husband, a management consultant and US citizen, she decided not to pursue nursing in the US but to start a business. They chose Vom Fass and opened in August of 2013 where she manages the store with some coaching and back office assistance from her husband. Adelaide speaks 5 languages, 4 quite fluently (French, Portuguese, Spanish and English plus some Italian). She is able to communicate with most of the customers that visit us at the world renowned Ghirardelli Square.

This hidden gem of a store is located in Ghiradelli Square, and is definitely worth facing the crowds that can gather outside the chocolate stores if you enjoy locally-​made and unique products. VOM FASS sells a variety of oils and vinegars enfused with different flavors than you can easily get at your local grocery– think lemon, basil, garlic, etc. What’s even better is that the store is set up to encourage tastings, so you can find your new favorite flavor without having to buy whole bottles at a time. Huge thumbs up to the staff, who are super helpful and accomodating to help you find your new signature flavor oil and vinegar.
Along with the helpful staff and great oils and vinegars, they also sell lots of dry spices and rubs, and make their own liquors as well. Unfortunatley, you can’t try their liquors without buying! :-)
VOM FASS is worth the stop, and make great gifts for your friends and family.

After a trip to San Francisco and a wonderful experience at the shop in Ghirardelli Square we decided to order a large amount of the custom olive oils and vinegars as favors at my daughter’s bridal shower. Mike and Adelaide were absolutely amazing to work with and the oils were an absolute hit! I would highly recommend not only their great product but also there awesome customer service!

3rd time here, as good as before. They got oils, vinegars, herbs and spices, and I love their vinegars most. Plum and calamansi vinegars are definitely not that easy to find. The price compared to the quality is also acceptable (while the bottle is a little expensive, I think I will bring my old bottles next time). I use their vinegars just with salad and they taste really nice. I am a food blogger and I know about food.
To my surprise, last time I shared the pictures of the vinegars I bought at this store on my social network, my cousin, who studies in German, said that this is one of her fav stores in German too! Guess the foodie family got something in common hah, glad to have this store in SF.

This was a very nice little store in Ghirardelli Square, apparently opened only last year. We were wandering around before the Chocolate Festival and found it. At first we were the only ones there, so we had an amazing ‘tasting tour’ from one of the very wonderful staff. She was quite adept at blending oils/​vinegars/​syrups/​spices for unique and delicious tastings. They have a vast selection of oils — pumpkin seed was especially tasty — and balsamics.
They also have some very nice gift sets, which I think make amazing hostess gifts or thank you gifts.
Be warned that the cost of the bottle is $ 3 extra (for 100 ml). I don’t know if there is an option if you don’t want to buy a bottle. You can bring your bottle back to refill it, saving that cost, but again I don’t know if you can bring in any old bottle (not one of theirs) to fill. Also, I think you can ask them to pre-​mix something for you, like an oil and a vinegar.
If you like to cook, you will love this shop. If you like balsamic salad dressing, you will love this shop. If you are looking for unique flavors, you will love this shop. And if you like to experiment, guess what? You will love this shop.

Found this place walking around Ghirardelli Square way in the back near the Ghirardelli Marketplace. With the new healthier living I’m doing now I probably didn’t notice this place before.
This place is amazing! So many different flavors of oils & vinegars. So many unique flavors that you’ll never find in your regular grocery store. I would have loved to try them all if I had the time. I also would have bought them all if I could! HA! They also have spice mixes in the back. Again, different varieties you wouldn’t expect to find at the local store. Sunflower Oil, walnut oil, cashew oil, so many flavors of other oils, way too many to list here! The price for each oil & vinegar varies.
The staff was very helpful. The woman working that day let me try several oils that I was definitely interested in buying. And she also suggested a vinegar that would compliment it and also a spice. She let me try all three. I loved the spice with the oil! I ended up buying a 500ml bottle of Extra Virgin German Herb Garlic Sunflower Oil and a 60g bottle of Bruschetta alla Toscana spice. She had to go to the back to fill the Sunflower Oil because the cask out front was empty. When she came back out the owner (an older woman) actually came out to thank us for our purchase. She was really nice. She also told us to make sure we keep the oil in a nice cool dark place. She said any type of oil should be kept that way. Man, I always keep my EVOO sitting on the kitchen counter! Thanks for the tip!
For a personal touch they write the name and weight on the bottles/​jars by hand.
I recently cooked with the oil & the spice. They were right! A little goes a long way! I only used ¼tsp of the spice mix on some veggies & that’s all it needed!
I’m definitely going back to get more oils & maybe try some vinegars next time.

Located at Ghirardelli Square it’s a small shop filled with the most fragrant oils and vinegars. Vom Fass is staffed with some very knowledgeable employees and I also had the opportunity to meet the owner she’s a sweetheart and was very sincere and thanked me for making a few purchases.
After a few tastings we decided to go with a bottle of Basil Infused oil paired with a Calamansi Vinegar the ratio is 2:1 oil to vinegar. This citrus vinegar combined with the oil is going to go great on a fresh spring mix or I’m thinking it might go great on grill asparagus or some blackened Grouper.
This store has a large selection of dry ingredient seasonings as well.
They also have a website and ship anywhere in the lower 48. You can’t go wrong spending some time in here.

Happened to come in here during a wine event. At first, I was thinking «Why?» (Why spices and oils? Why all these mixes? I mean, really? How is this different than the grocery store… except it probably costs 3x as much.)
My date bought me the Argentina BBQ spice. It was only $ 6. Now, I’m addicted to that spice. I love it. I crave it. Now I need to try this Pistascio Oil other reviewers are talking about.
The only problem: location is horrible (difficult to get to). Also, I was only able to get in to the store because I purchased a VIP ticket to this wine event. If I wanted to stop in and get more spices and there was yet another event going on, I’d be pissed that I couldn’t go in to the store… especially given the hassle it already is to get to the store. So, check before you go on whether Ghiradelli Square is having an event.

Really pricy oils and vinegars but they let you try anything you want. The prepackaged bottles scare me. They have no dates of when they are bottled. How do i know if what I tried from the barrels are the same as the packaged merchandise? When I asked the employee did not know (–1). I enjoyed the walnut oil, apple balsamic vinegar, and pumpkin seed oil. I purchased three small containers for $ 20 (carry on sized). Service was so-​so (–1).

Walk in and when you are greeted, you will also be offered a sample of anything you are curious to try.
Try samples. Start thinking of what you would use it for — or you can cheat because you aren’t a great home chef and ask what you can do with the ones you like.
Pick a vessel to put your selections in.
They will fill and label your glass vessels accordingly.
When you get home you will find cards that describe what you’ve purchased and if you flip it over, there is a recipe! Their website also offers recipes and if you have a good one to share, they just might post it.
Why settle for average when it is so easy to elevate what you create in your kitchen with quality ingredients?

Great place to stop on a site seeing day at ghirardelli square, especially if you like to cook. Tons of oils, vinegars and spices to sample. I ended up going home with a bottle of their star honey vinegar and a bottle of their lemon oil. Each one is great in there own right, but also great when enjoyed together.
If I had to nitpick one thing though. The only thing I don’t find esthetically pleasing is the logo… It looks like it would be for some sort of technology store or men’s clothing store… It doesn’t scream come taste our delicious spices.

Such a great variety of oils and vinegars. Adelaide, the president of this location, was very eager to give us different combinations of oils and vinegars to taste. Pistachio oil was one of the more unique offerings, along w/​argan oil. After countless combinations, I came home w/​a quince vinegar and a tangerine oil. A great place to shop for some unique items for your pantry.

The fifth ingredient in my new Lobster Salad recipe is «Pistachio Oil.» I’ve never used Pistachio Oil before but I figured one of the fancy food stores in SF would probably sell it. Wrong! After driving and calling around without any success, I asked Unilocal!Vom Fass came up as the #1 result in my search for «pistachio oil» and the reviews stated that their pistachio oil was delish. Although reluctant to go to touristville (aka Fisherman’s Wharf) I braved the crowds on a Saturday. The store was just as I expected it to be (thanks to the Unilocal!Pictures) but what I didn’t necessarily expect was the excellent service. My boyfriend and I walked in looking every bit as overwhelmed and confused as we felt. Luckily Prince came over to save the day. He guided us through the «process» (buy a refillable bottle to put whatever you want inside) and made some nice recommendations for their tasty vinegars. We ended up leaving with the pistachio nut oil I needed plus their beer vinegar, which got special approval from the boyfriend.
We loved Vom Fass and will go back for sure. When we return, I hope that Prince will be there. He was really the highlight of our visit. He was a new hire and had an endearing nervousness but his smile is amazing as is his overall customer rapport. Everyone in the store was very nice and helpful, including the owner, but Prince was really the best.
BTW, the pistachio oil is very yummy but it is expensive! Fortunately a little goes a long way so it is worth it.

While sight seeing at Ghirardelli Square with visiting family members, we found ourselves in front of this store. My first reaction after trying to pronounce the sign was what kind of place is this? As I peeked into the window, my second thought was, that it was just another specialty condiments store. But when my boyfriend went inside, I decided to follow suit as my curiosity became peaked. It turned out that this shop had more to offer than expected! I was amazed at the large number of choices you get in flavored oils, vinegars and powdered seasonings.
This unique store displays casks of infused oils such as extra virgin olive oils, infused oils, nut oils, seed oils, and wellness oils, featured with smooth tasting flavors like pistachio, walnut, garlic, avocado, basil, chili and a whole lot more!
The vinegars are aged in oak barrels while blended with their own special recipes that included ingredients such as apple, cherry, lemon, grape, ginger, white or red wines and even beer!
The friendly and helpful staff were very enthusiastic about their products and offered free tasting of any number of the oils and vinegars separately or mixed together. At first it seemed strange for me to start tasting the oils, but the nice flavors quickly eased my mind. Then when they combined it with a flavored vinegar, I realized how delicious mixing them both together could be!
So many options are available here that also include a large variety of spices and seasonings. Just find the flavors you want, purchase the size and number of bottles you want to fill, and then they fill and seal them for you so you don’t have to worry about any leakage before getting them home.
This is definitely a shop that caters to anyone who enjoys gourmet cooking. Now, the possibilities can be endless in creating your own unique recipes or give to someone as a gift. And it’s nice to know that you can also order from them online!

Two words you need to know when you go to Vom Fass is «Pistachio Oil». If you like nutty tasting oils on your salads this is definitely nutty tasting salad oil on crack. Mix it with a tiny bit of their apple vinegar and you will be in heaven. I cannot wait to drizzle a small amount on my fish or even on a pork chop.
I am glad there is finally something worth going to in Ghiradelli Square. Vom Fass has a multitude of hard to find and not so hard to find oils, vinegar, and spices. They have things like black cumin oil, food grade avocado oil, ginger sesame oil, hazelnut oil, pumpkin seed oil and many, many more. They also have an amazing variety of vinegars including cherry balsamic, raspberry, peach, pear, honey, date, fig with a large number of other flavors. They have an interesting variety of spices but my attention was concentrated on the oils and vinegars. They do not contaminate the oils and vinegars by putting them on bread or pretzels. Tastings are served on small spoons so you can fully appreciate the distinct flavors of the products.
Vam Fass is not something you will find in every strip mall across America and it is definitely one of the few places you do not want to miss on your next visit to the wharf area. They do offer private tasting parties if you are planning on coming with a group,.

These oils are amazing. I went to a homeopathic doctor who recommended many different pure oils for my skin and also to eat with foods. I have purchased many bottles from the location in Sedona, and am so pleased there is now one in San Francisco!!! Very happy about this.

This is a HIDDEN GEM in Ghiradelli square. Apparently they just opened a few days prior to my visit, but I can tell they are going to a permanent stop every time I go to San Francisco.
Amazing selection with even better customer service. My wife and I happened in here will touring the square and were immediately warmly received by the nice owner.
The prices are all very reasonable for what you get and we ended up leaving with some great best tasting souvenirs.
I recommend the truffle oil and the pumpkin oil, just be prepared to leave hungry!

This is a new oil, vinegar, and spices store in Ghirardelli Square. You can sample all of their products, and that we did trying a pistachio oil (delicious.tasted very much like pistachio), garlic olive oil (also great), avocado oil (ehh.), chili sunflower oil (interesting but not too spicy), and a fig chili balsamic vinegar (the winner! really delicious and interesting). They have a huge variety there so come ready to try some different things out (but note that the people who work there need to ‘pour’ the sample for you due to some weird health code rule, but there were a lot of people working there all of whom were very friendly and ready to help).
The prices seemed reasonable for a specialty store, and varied depending on the expense of the ingredients. For the fig chili vinegar, I had to buy a re-​fillable 100 ml bottle, which was a little pricey at $ 3 but a one time purchase, and then the vinegar itself was a little less than $ 10.
They were really excited to meet some locals since the majority of people who go to Ghirardelli Square are tourists. They have a pile of 20% off your next purchase cards ready for people who live in the area.
All in all I will definitely be back there to buy more things for myself and for others as gifts. Worth checking out!
