Victor Lyapis, MD

Dr. Lyapis has been my family doctor for over 10 years. He is always available day and night, whenever we need him. I feel like whenever we have a health problem he will be there to diagnose it and fix it. He always has.

If you’re looking for an impersonal, rushed and apathetic experience for your initial visit with Dr. Lyapis then you’ve cone to the right place.
My expectation of hoping to meet a doctor who has the interpersonal skills to listen, engage and actually care for their patient was immediately dismissed at this clinic. Starting with a 20 – 25 min wait following by a rushed doctor coming in and stating, «what do you need?». Not, «Hello…my name is Dr. L… nice to meet you.» The appointment proceeded by him quickly filling out a form of my past/​current medical history without any eye contact or him even waiting for my full response to the questions before prematurely filling out check marks. I told him that I seriously needed a referral to see and orthopedic specialist due to shoulder problems I’d had for over a year. My pathology was also confirmed by past MRI. From his chair, he told me to «raise up your arm.» After doing so he appaulingly said, «You’re fine, you don’t need to see anyone.» As if this wasn’t bad enough, he took a 3 min. phone call with a Russian speaking patient during my initial visit. He then told me to return to the waiting room afyer less than 10 min into our initial visit! After 5 min. of being in waiting room he said that it was a busy day and that he was running behind on things, but wanted to finish up with me.
Honestly, make this doctor the very last person you decide to make your PCP if you have the means to choose someone else.

Dr. Lyapis is an awesome guy! Super friendly and has a good sense of humor. Coming from medical background myself, I can tell Dr. Lyapis is knowledgable and a proficient doctor. I have been looking for a doctor in the Bay Area for about two years and I have finally found someone good!

Im writing a Unilocal review on this doctor office because the receptionist with the black hair was so rude to me and also humiliated me in front of the whole office and staff. I dont usually write negative reviews, this is not my kind of a thing… BUT im spending my spare time just write this because this really bothered. As i walk in the lady says very loudly that i smell like marijuana i covered her nose (I havnt smoked NONE) and even if i did i was in a medical office and there is no way she should treat me that way. it was totally un-​profesional. i felt so humiliated. she started to talk in russian which i understood telling her co workers how bad it smells and also saying i stink the whole office up and why could not smoke after my visit… then she proceed telling me that i slipped a pill in my mouth also and says i look very high. VERY CONFUSED WHY SHE SAID THAT. i felt so bad so i dialed my mother because she knows the doctor personally and i gave the receptionist the phone, she went on telling my mom that i smell like marijuana and that my mother knows HER CHILD well and she knows what shes talking about. I WAS SHOCKED. IM AN GROWN MAN. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! As i go down and read all the comments i see alot of complaints on this same receptionist. By american standards doing busness she is not in the right position. I will also get her name and report her to blue cross or whatever else i have to do. bbb will hear from me also.

Dr Lyapis actually cares about his patients, he remembers everything I told him about what happened to me including all the little details even weeks after he met me. He is a very honest person with great integrity. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed in my last experiences with Dr. Lyapis and the clinic staff. Staff were rude and seemed to be more focused on making money off me and my insurance provider than providing care. My first appointment was good but my last appointment lasted maybe 7 minutes and I had to wait ~35 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. After that he required that I schedule appointments for follow-​up which were not necessary. My requirements for a physician are minimal and he failed to live up to them.
But to be fair, Lyapis does seem to know his stuff and can be pleasant to deal with. He speaks Russian and English. His clinic is bare bones and efficient in the sense that they don’t waste money like normal clinics in the USA… something I appreciate. However, my last experience was so frustrating that I have to give a low rating.

The receptionist charged me $ 120 dollars cash to see Dr Lyapis. Then when I said I only had 100 she said thats fine. She was negotiating my co pay. i walked to the ATM. I paid cause I needed to see a doctor. I feel like that receptionist with the black bushy hair robbed me. I’m reporting this to Blue Shield. This was a very shady experience.

Dr Lyapis is our family doctor for almost 20 years. He always has line of people in the waiting area but if you have an emergency– he will always find time to see you first instead of sending to Emergency as other doctors will do. My father inn law was terminally ill, Dr. Lyapis visited him every day in the hospital, talked to doctors and updated us constantly. All my family greatly appreciate for all his help and attention. If I have an option to put more than 5 stars– I would do it. Thank you dear doctor for being so attached to you patients.

It is old Russian school and if it is not what you are looking for, don’t go there. Dr Lyapis is very experienced and can really help and diagnose you without being scared of liability like a normal American doctor. He can advice and be honest. Great and experienced doctor.

I’ve been seeing him for about 3 years and he’s ok. Pretty old-​school Russian, very matter-​of-​fact kind of doctor. I only needed some vaccinations and prescriptions. His staff has always been polite and responsive. They speak english just fine.

Yes, this office caters to a certain (social) type of elderly Russian patients. And there is nothing wrong with that. It’s just too bad that accidental outsiders are not warned.
Russian language only (English is limited to the necessities). Receptionist was unprofessional on many levels. Appointment time is a fictional attribute, be ready to wait for a long time. Invaluable 3^rd country experience!

Dr. Lyapis is a very good doctor. Knowledgeable, confident, smart, fast. His expertise can be very helpful.
That’s if you get to see him in time with the test results in place and so on. In other words — if you’re healthy enough to deal with the professional and attitude peculiarities of his office front staff.

Dr Lyapis has been my general Dr for almost 10 Years.
He is the perfect Dr for me. I was medic/​Flight nurse for 10 years.
When I was much younger. I can walk in rattle off what is going on,
he usually knows exactly what is going on and we can usually keep the
event to 10 minutes.
He is an accomplished surgeon with a specialty in Emergency medicine
and general medicine.
He can replace about gazillion tests just by looking you in the eyes for 15 seconds.
In the 10 Years I have been with him as my Primary Dr, I have quit smoking almost 3 years now
with a prescription therapy program. Defeated an Out of control high blood pressure issue.
As well as all the other normal stuff throughout the years.
I do not even pay attention to the Russian stuff, Dr Lyapis is Russian and his office directly across from the
largest and I believe most advanced primarily Russian hospital in the state, so just the opposite you
would expect to hear Russian you should be worried if no one says anything in Russian .
Russian culture in a DR office is just a different process.
He is an awesome DR and a good guy.,

I am not sure if this to blame of Dr. Lyapis or HMO’s but this was a distaster. I agree with everything Jason said. I went in there with a cut that looked infected. The place was so overwhelmed, Dr. Lyapis was running in and out of the room. When he finally did see me he announced he’d have to cut it open. Next thing I know he has shot so much lidocane in my finger I can’t feel up past my elbow. He then proceeded to cut a lot of skin of the finger with out even first lancing it to make sure puss would actually come out (NO PUSS DID!) He then gave me a prescription for antibiotics that made me very ill. Upon research I discovered he prescribed double the dose! Now it’s over a week later, my finger is no longer infected but is healing much more slowly due to him cutting so much skin off unnecessarily.
In short, do yourself a favor and find a better doctor. And if you have had a problem with him, be sure to complain to your health insurance.

poor office experience. no one there speaks english fluently. and there are no computers in the office. they do everything on paper. it feels like visiting a foreign country.
