A leader in the advancement for spine surgery, Dr. Deviren performs an innovative lateral entry spine surgical technique and thoracic anterior discectomy and fusion with instrumentation while minimizing approach-related morbidity. These surgical techniques cause less tissue disruption, which benefits patients by reducing their recovery time and enabling them to return to normal daily activities faster. He is internationally known for his expertise in XLIF and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Deviren uses this experience to lecture at both the national and international level on these specific topics both in the field of Orthopaedics but also in the field of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Deviren is a Professor in Clinical Orthopaedics at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his postgraduate theoretical and practical courses in orthopaedics and traumatology from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. He had further clinical training in Spine Surgery as a clinical and research fellow at UCSF and joined the UCSF faculty in 2001. Dr. Deviren is also an active member of the North American Spine Society, Scoliosis Research Society, Spinal Deformity Study Group, International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, and the Society of Lateral Access Surgery. Specializing in the treatment of spinal disorders in both children and adults, Dr. Vedat Deviren has over 12 years of experience as a spine surgeon. He has a strong clinical interest in problems affecting the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, including deformities such as adult scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, and failed back surgeries.
