Vallejo Street Garage

My car has a permanent park spot here. Everyone is nice, and the view at the top is amazing… but the hours are pretty inconvenient, so had to knock a star off.

Parking your car cannot get any safer than this!!!
Garage is next to a police station. Great location for North Beach, Chinatown, and parts of Nob Hill.
Not a big garage so it can be full fast but def check out.

I rather get a parking ticket than parking here! I told myself from now on I will never park here. Unfriendly staff and the policy is not fair at this place. I don’t recommend anyone to park here. For those drivers who decided to park here, please be alert their pay hours. Here was my experience:
My parking ticket expired at 1:45pm and I only parked there for 1 hour. There was a long line of cars in front of me when i was waiting to pay at the exit. At 1:49pm, I got to the pay station, the guy at the pay stand said I have to pay for 2 hours because i was 4 minutes late. Most parking lots have 5 minutes grace periods. I said to him this is not fair because i was waiting in line that caused that i was 4 minutes late. Plus, there is no machine stamp to paid otherwise I could paid it via machines to avoid the long line. He said «there is nothing he can do and this world is always not fair. Since you are driving a nice car and you cant afford to pay?» This is ridiculous and totally irrelevant. driving a nice car does not mean i pay for other peoples mistakes! I told the guy to pull the public cam recorder out to show proof there was a long line infront earlier. He started to yell at me. He also said the cars behind me need to pay like you if you dont pay and exit! I dont want the drivers behind me to pay like me so I ended my conversation with him, paid and exited. Seriously, this parking place is a cheater! I dont recommend to park here. I wonder if there is a place I can go and make a compliant.

Don’t bother parking here if you’re going to dinner in North Beach — they shut at 10pm and will extort you for being 5 minutes late. Cheaper to park on the street and get a ticket than deal with this corrupt cartel.

Looking for parking in Chinatown? Go to Vallejo Street Garage. This garage is clean, attendant is nice and also speaks English. It is very easy to get in and out and the layout of the parking structure is efficient. The garage is located across from the police station, and it lends a sense of safety and security. It is less than .5 mile to Little Italy so one stone kills two birds; you can park here and visit China town and Little Italy.

This is a gem in North Beach. Open late on Fridays and Saturdays, it’s convenient to cafes, restaurants, Club Fugazi if you’ve got tickets to Beach Blanket Babylon, etc. The layout of this lot is super easy to navigate (probably because it actually makes sense — stairs are in the center of the lot, and each floor is one-​way). Each parking stall has a witty, fortune cookie-​like message and the floors are color-​coded. Plus, you feel safe because the Central SFPD station is across the street and cop cars are often parked along both sides of the street.
Since street parking is pretty much impossible to find in North Beach, this parking lot is a godsend.

No stress opportunity for parking when visiting the North Beach and Chinatown areas of SF. I’ve street parked in metered spaces for years but that is so stressful when you have to keep track of time since the meters are only for 1and a half hours. I can never get anything done here in that amount of time so its always a sprint back to feed the meter.
The garage isn’t the greatest but convenient, somewhat between the North Beach and Chinatown areas, decent sized spaces, ok prices, lighted, a little stinky in the elevator (just stand in the middle) but I would only use the elevator during the day since it lets you out in an isolated alley.
The other caveat is choose a space that is easy to get out of. I saw a car parked in one of the spaces on the curve going up and almost got whacked by a car zooming down. I know sometimes you are just lucky to get a space but just saying.
You can only turn right exiting the garage.

Here’s an option for parking when you’re attending a show at Club Fugazi where Beach Blanket Babylon plays.
It is right by the Central Police Station and cost us $ 9 on a Saturday night.
According to a posted sign, the garage closes at 10pm Sunday — Thursday, and 2am Friday and Saturday. They have a $ 50 charge if you want to get your car out after hours.

Parked here at the Vallejo Street Garage in many occasions while shopping in Chinatown. The newer North Beach Garage (
) across the street is my first choice but it is usually «Full» in the middle of the day.
This garage is an older five level parking garage located above the Central Police Station. It must be a safe garage with all the cops downstairs? This garage has two small elevators, one which exits onto Vallejo St and the onto the Emery Lane alley. They are old and grimy looking. Compared to the garage across the street, this garage is dimmer and not as clean looking. Here, you pay the attendant upon exiting the garage instead of pre-​paying.
But compared to trying to find a rare parking space on the street, this garage is still a good alternative. However, if you had the choice, park across the street in the North Beach Garage if it’s not full.

When the North Beach Parking garage is full this is the alternative. Its older lot and the elevator are kind of scary. It’s ancient. It’s also right next to the San Francisco Vallejo Street station Police station. This lot is only a couple blocks away from Chinatown and also North beach.
Last time I went here the elevator was stuck and you hear the bell ringing haha.
The price is not bad $ 3.00 for first hour and 1 – 2 hours its $ 6.00
In 2013 San Francisco will have no more free parking in San Francisco meters its best and wise to park in these parking garages to avoid a hefty ticket from the city.

This place closes at 12am sharp, so if you plan on coming to Chinatown late, don’t consider parking here.
Right above the Chinatown Police station and this place still smells like pee and have this unsafe feeling that one is going to get robbed. Hit and run and vehicle burgularies still happen though.

This helpful parking lot is in the area bordering North Beach and Chinatown. The turn-​arounds on the ramps can be a bit tight, so be careful or else you’ll tattoo your car on the garage walls. For some reason, the elevators can have funny smells, so I usually just take the stairs. As others have mentioned, the SFPD has a station directly across the street. One last note, the top floor has some amazing views of SF.

We parked in the Vallejo Street Garage a few weeks ago while visiting San Francisco. It was really easy to find and it’s right next door to a police station. Really convenient if you want to walk around Chinatown.

Usually park here when I’m in the area, since it’s impossible to find good street parking unless you feel like burning a ton of gas going in circles.
The fortune cookie sayings are a cute touch, but I ALWAYS end up on the top floor and I don’t think I have ever gotten back from a meal within an hour, so it’s always $ 6 minimum parking expense.
Sigh. I hate city parking.

Been parking here for decades. You get the feeling that it’s safer here because of the SFPD substation right next door. Never had any problem parking here. After reading the reviews on Unilocal,maybe that’s because I don’t come back to this garage after 10p during the week or 1:55a on weekends. Gotta keep that in mind next time. Thanks Unilocalers!

I usually park here when I go to Chinatown. Its a nice quiet place across the street from the police station. I rather park at this garage than the one on kearny, its less packed.
This is my first review, longer time reader, first time post-​er? I decided to write a review because today, one of the worker, Tony went above and beyond to help me. I forgot to turn off my lights and my car wouldn’t start. I needed a jumpstart and Tony went and look for cables then drove his own car to the top and jumpstart it for me. Thats super cool because I would have been super stress.
But regardless of his help or not, this is a great place to park if your going to Chinatown. It s more quiet and I feel like its more safe being across the street from the police station. Oh yeah, its $ 3/​hr.

5 stars for the great view at the rooftop level. Learned about this spot from other reviewers on Unilocal,and I’m glad I found it.
Oh, and I guess for a parking garage, it’s alright.

Pretty good garage. Pretty easy to park inside since most people park at Portsmouth since it’s like so close to Chinatown.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. Honestly, I think I would give it 3 stars if it wasn’t for the fact that the person working the station actually looked at my validated ticket.
I was there from 7:57 PM to 9:09 PM, my ticket was validated for an hour and a half (should have been free), I still got charged 6 dollars. Then when I complained, they said it was already processed.
I’m going to give their main office a call tomorrow. I’m unhappy about this. Go here if you feel like wasting money. That $ 6 could have been put to better use.
Edit: These guys got back to me promptly about starting a refund for my over charge. 1 star now instead of zero. I’ll probably change it when I actually receive the refund.

Cheap parking and just a couple of blocks from my place. Whenever I have friends stopping by I direct them to this garage or the one across the street.
$ 2.50 an hour is almost nothing compared to other garages in the area and if you head to the roof you’ll be treated to one of the best views in the city, head there at sunset and you’ll be rewarded with something magical. See my picture.
