Urban Color carries something for everyone. Our variety of home décor and gifts are trendy, hip, sporty, fun, decadent. We specialize in moderately priced giftware including one-​of-​a-​kind artworks, jewelry, handbags, artisan crafted soaps, unique and colorful journals, handmade cards, super-​funky socks, and unpretentious home décor.

Our upstairs art studio is where we teach children and adults arts and crafts classes. Sign up for Mommy and Me art classes or have your children take an afternoon Craft Class after school. Every month we feature watercolor painting, knitting, sewing, acrylic painting and jewelry making.

We love holding parties too! Schedule your child’s next birthday party at our studio and we’ll do all the work. We bring the cake, we decorate, we plan the games and do the cleanup. All you do is relax.

History

Established in 2001.

Urban Color originated in April 2001 as a local community artist organization in San Francisco, California. Eventually, Kendra and Johnston Lock opened a gallery space in the Marina, turning it into a meeting spot for artists and art buyers. Soon they added monthly art classes. The gallery has reopened as a boutique and gallery that still supports local artists and continues teaching arts and crafts classes.

Business Owner

Kendra Hiett Lock of Urban Color has been a lifelong advocate and supporter of the arts. She continues to teach art classes, facilitates workshops for artists, and produces several special events each year. Kendra opened her first community art gallery in Visalia, California in 1988. Starting with a small local artists gallery it blossomed into a fully-​functioning art center including the main gallery, children’s gallery, photography studio with dark room, classrooms, art studios, and a gift shop. Kendra loves all things handmade, refurbished, hand-​painted and hand-​crafted.

A-​MAZZING home décor! I bought two vintage desks for my bedroom! LOVE IT! And it turns out she supports local SF artists and so that means one of a kind stuff!

This store was right up my alley when it came to unique decorative pieces for the home. I ended up buying a one-​of-​a-​kind painting of a bird and want to go back to get another piece that matches.
Adorable little shop with a mix of paintings, pillows, greeting cards and other little items for the home that were relatively inexpensive.
There was a 20% off sale going on that the time and the owner mentioned she was moving her shop and going to focus more on art classes once she moves.
Go back in the next 30 days if you had your heart set on any of the merchandise in the store-​it may be gone soon!

Kendra has an art studio for kids upstairs in her store. A plus plus! My 8 year old and her best friend had a great art camp experience. Small ratio (only 4 students) and lots of attention from Kendra who really relates well to kids. I like that the arts and crafts were age appropriate and that it was truely the students own work. She made my daughter feel like a million bucks as well as an accomplished artist! Highly recommend it!

So glad I found this GEM [better late than never] ! I was feeling a bit low and unexpecdly this place was a real pick-me-up…better than candies/​sweets. Ms. Kendra was so gracious/​warm and knowledgeable. This quaint store was like going into an adult wonderland… very whimsical [unique] and the prices are practical. Plus, Ms Kendra is very community oriented. She holds lots of fun arts and crafts calender every month for the whole family. Go ahead sometime & treat Urself into a dreamland!

Though colorful, this place is not urban at all. This is a great place for cutesy, crafty tchotchkes but not grown up, modern, design-​oriented product. Kids would have a good time here, but not a place for actual adults with adult style.
However, the owner was terrific. She was super nice, very helpful and I so wanted to like her store. I ended up buying a key chain out of guilt. However, I will not be a repeat customer. Park Life up the street was way more my style.

This is a really cute shop and the customer service is awesome. Knitted caps and matching booties, hand made soaps and woven wallets, bird art, small paintings, etc make this a very eclectic place to choose a personal gift or something special for your self.

This is the first store we hit on our daily walks to Clement Street. Kendra is very friendly and will help you find anything or MAKE you anything. We’ve purchased some stuff here, including some stuff that was $ 1 when she’s trying to unload stuff.
Very well set up, cute, colorful, clean, unique finds. For such a small store, you can spend quite a while perusing everything she has. Kendra also paints (among other arts and crafts) and she has some scenic prints of the city that she has created.
We love coming in here to say hi and see what colorful stuff she has for the day before we start on our near-​daily Clement Street adventure.
Laid back place. Kendra doesn’t follow you around.

I was trying to find a place in my neighborhood (the richmond) where i could get a gift for my mom since her birthday was coming up, and i wanted it to be a place that was locally owned and had unique things to offer. So i Unilocaled and found urban color, and immediately decided that this was the place i wanted to go first. So the boyfriend and i set off to clement street and urban color was our first stop.
I actually liked how the store wasn’t too tightly organized inside, it makes it more fun to have to kind of dig through things to find something special someone else may have passed by. Kendra (the owner) has a great selection of art, jewelry, knitted goods, and bath and body products made mostly (i assume) by local artisans. Everything is very reasonably priced as well, i got my mom a lovely necklace and earring set for about $ 38.00. Kendra is super bubbly and nice and really added something extra to our shopping experience there.

I love this little gift shop! It’s filled with treasures. Fancy candles and soaps, paintings from local artists on the walls, funky/​unique pieces of jewerly displayed in various parts of the store. Recently, I found pieces of soap wrapped in felt made from wool and they were a hit with my friends! I got more as gifts.
If you love an inviting, cozy place to shop for unique gifts, you have to check out Urban Color. Kendra, the owner, is super helpful and friendly. She’s also a painter so her artwork pieces are also displayed at her shop.

This local artist inspired boutique is a find. Great gifts, new merchandise all the time and Kendra the owner is the best. Urban Color is packed to the gills with all kinds of interesting art and jewelry and even furniture, with prices that range from moderate to cheap, cheap, cheap. I love that what ever my budget is that day I can find something I can afford. Yippee

I became a Unilocal member just to write a review for Urban Colors! This is a great gift shop with lots of fun, original items. I walked in looking for cute lingerie bags for my bridesmaids. The owner Kendra said she didn’t have any but would be happy to make them from me per my design. Right then and there I picked out fabrics and she whipped them up in a couple of days. They have a can do-​can make attitude that is really refreshing. I WILL BE BACK, I forgot to have one of the lingerie bags made for me and they turned out so cute I have to have one. GREAT FIND!
