Specialties
We integrate modern medicine with established practices from around the world, focusing on prevention, patient-empowerment and whole person healing.
Our clinic offers a variety of integrative medicine services, treatments and therapies, including massage, acupuncture, ayurveda, cancer care, manual medicine, biofeedback, guided imagery and psychiatry & psychotherapy.
Unlike the rushed, revolving-door feel of hospital medicine, our patients spend an average of 60 minutes in their first visit with doctor.
History
Established in 1997.
The Osher Center for Integrative Medicine came into being in 1997 because of the vision of UCSF School of Medicine Dean Emeritus Haile T. Debas, MD and the generous support of the Bernard Osher Foundation. Dr. Debas felt that UCSF needed to take the lead in researching complementary and alternative therapies, educating its doctors so that they could help advise their patients about these approaches and providing a clinical service that integrated these therapies into care.
Today, the Osher Center operates a campus-wide multidisciplinary research and training program in integrative medicine at UCSF, and the clinic at the Osher Center provides an optimal healing environment for patients, and a wealth of approaches for individuals and families seeking health and wellness.
It is the place where integrative medicine research, education and patient care all come together.
