Town’s End Restaurant & Bakery

I ordered egg Benedict and it was so ordinary! Not impressive at all. Not recommending this place for breakfast if you want to go for this meal!
Sax’s joint in Petaluma rocks! Try it once and you will become addicted!
I hope that this bakery read this review and try to improve the quality.

I love this place!!! Everything is homemade including the baked goods. Breakfast, brunch, and lunch are all delicious. When you sit down you are given a basket of muffins or bread sticks, depending on your meal or your request. The tables have tablecloths on them, which I think is fantastic. The service is attentive, my ice tea glass was always full! Fantastic location on the Embarcadero with a nice view. I have eaten here many times, every time was a nice experience. Try it, you’ll like it.

Meh… the service was not very attentive throughout our Saturday morning brunch before a game. They were very busy and luckily we had reservations. We were seated promptly but we had to wait quite a long time to order and it seemed like it took forever to get our pitcher of Mimosas. I wanted to start with a Sake Bloody Mary but apparently they only had one bartender on a game day and so the Mimosas came first. They have a huge selection of breakfast items once you realize the menu opens up. It looked like a double sider of plastic until someone pointed out that it opened up. The portions are very small and the tastes of the dishes is very bland and boring. It seems like they did the bare minimum to make it pass for whatever it was that you ordered. I had the Salmon Scramble and it really was just eggs mixed with pieces of smoked salmon. Nothing special at all so if it wasn’t for the flavor of the fish, you’d have nothing. There weren’t any capers which would have added just a dash of something or even parsley sprinkled on top for presentation. My husband had a very plain plate of a single tortilla with two eggs and beans which apparently was their version of Huevos Rancheros. My friend had the Chorizo version and she was indifferent. The only redeeming qualities of this place were the big pitcher of Mimosas and the free basket of muffins and scones.

I have been here for breakfast once. I was very underwhelmed. Denny’s style breakfast at high-​end SF prices.
I cruised the bakery side once on my way home from work and the baked goods looked sad. Some «bake sale» style cookies, muffins and unappetizing looking bread. In a bread town like SF, they really do not make the grade. Safeway has a much better bakery.
This place probably stays in business because they are few weekend breakfast options in the area.
The best thing about this place is the out door seating options (which earned it another star)
Not worth the time or price. Go to Butler and Chef.

HATED IT!!! We should have went to IHOP. I would have had more money to go shopping with.
That bread basket everyone is raving about. DAY OLD or maybe even WEEK OLD bread. My one year old granddaughter thought it was building blocks. That’s how hard it was.
I sat for twenty minutes without even being acknowledged. That’s a fact I shouldn’t have brought to the attention of the waiter, who informed that they were busy. So, I waited another fifteen minutes. Where were all of these customers the waiter spoke about. Mystery to me! I saw a lot of empty tables.
The food was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to expensive for what was served.
EXAMPLE. The granola and yogurt order for my granddaughter, was a bowl of gran cereal with a few. I mean maybe 5 raisins and a little sauce cup of yogurt. Even she said no, with her limited vocabulary.
What a waste of $ 90.00 for a birthday breakfast.
I’m not a tourist so, next year Denny’s or IHOP for my sons birthday. At least I know what I’m getting and the service is MUCH better!

Lovely breakfast spot! We used Unilocal reservations and got a table before we left the house. This place is known for its weekend brunch crowds so it was really nice to have a table waiting when we arrived.
Service was prompt and super friendly. Food was good. Loved the little basket of fresh baked muffins brought to the table.
We will definitely go back.

Met up with some friends from out of town before they headed over to the game today. We tried to book a reservation on opentable but there were no spots so we thought we would risk it anyway.
We arrived and they sat us almost right away!
The warm muffins and scones were an awesome touch for my 1 yr old and 4 yr old. (think bread at a dinner spot)
I had the cobb scramble — Yumm!
My husband had the Dan’s special with blueberries — nice thick pancakes cooked through with fresh sausage and fluffy eggs.
Our guests had also a cobb scramble and the crab benedict.
None of the food disappointed.
We have found a new brunch location whenever we venture over to the city!

After I had a lunch here after this restaurant has been closing dinner one thing I realized that the strong reason for closing dinner deal.
The kind of price I had to pay for lunch was a dinner price: small portion and overly charged deal.
I like the ingredients but that kind of portion with over price is not fair for lunch time.
I will pass next time.

I’m a bicoastal business man from New York to San Francisco and I rent an air B and B near by. On that note coming here has been always frustrating and not so great experience with the wait staff and how insanely long it takes to get your order ready.
I want to acknowledge JAZMIN for having common sense and awareness of her job and getting to know me as a customer. I have this restaurant one more try and had no intentions to come back. So JAZMIN kudos and please have more wait staff like her.

Chose this place because I could make a reservation through Unilocal.Super useful. Went for brunch on Sunday. Very good service and food. Loved the complementary muffins. Minus one star because it was a little overpriced.

Townsend bakery — or as I like to call it — The Muffin Place — is one of my favorite spots for brunch (mostly because it’s a block away from my apt…). But seriously, this place is perfect. The service is great, the staff is friendly, everyone is happy and the food/​drinks are delicious.
I haven’t even told you the best part yet…3 words… free. muffin. basket.
That’s right. Every table in the restaurant gets a muffin basket. Cranberry muffins, blueberry muffins, chocolate chip scones, and more! Add butter and their homemade jam and you’re golden.
Do yourself a favor and order the Raspberry Mimosa — there are little chunks of raspberries floating in the drink — it is definitely one of the best mimosas I’ve ever had. Side note: their coffee is spot on as well.
One of my favorite parts about Townsend Bakery is their Mary’s Special option — it is basically for those who cannot make a decision between eggs and pancakes (like me) so they give you the best of both worlds. These pancakes/​eggs are no ordinary pancakes/eggs…they are oatmeal pancakes served with seasonal fruit and almonds (I have switched them out for blueberry pancakes once or twice) & a flavorful, delicious egg scramble with green onions, garlic, mushrooms, and your choice of cheese.
The last time I went here I decided to switch it up from Mary’s Special and got the Messy Eggs (same egg special in the Mary’s Special except replace the mushrooms for bacon). I decided to try no bacon and added tomatoes instead.

First impressions:
As any other responsible hungover individual would do on New Year’s Day, I decided to call the café before I drove over to ensure they were open and with no excessive wait. I was told it was only a ten minute wait so I eagerly headed over. Upon arrival, I was actually seated right away (no wait) so the first impressions were seemingly good.
We were seated to a table which unfortunately remained with the dirty napkin of its previous diners… No big deal– Biodegradable — I’m hungry.
Then we were greeted by these endearing mini muffins. The order of my personal preference is: blueberry, banana bread, and then apple cinnamon. There is also an apple butter which you can accessorize your tastebuds with; however, I prefer the classy chic look of my mini muffin without such additions. I feel that I have great authority to rank these favors because I ordered another basket of muffins (the first is complimentary, the second is not).
The Meal:
I ordered an iced soy latte and a salmon eggs Benedict. While I highly recommend these scrumptious delights, make sure to check your cutlery, plates, and cups for their hygiene as my cup was still reminiscent of its previous dinners red lipstick. Now, perhaps you may think my caffein indigent lips had forgotten to drink from the straw before sipping my coffee. But you would be wrong because today I wore a nude matte. BOOM…
But once again, this was no big deal and the waitress simply replaced my drink. While I’ll admit, the leftover collection from the previous dinners made the experience slightly off-​putting — our waitress did an excellent job of accommodating and the food was great. The only thing in the way for a 5 star rating would be the leftover napkin and lipstick. I would come back just for the mini muffins alone. Hopefully then, I will be able to rate 5 stars.

I have been here a couple of times now, but most recently was on a weekday morning with some friends.
I LOVE the fact that they give you a little sampling of their baked goods at the table right away. My favorites are always the carrot muffins, as I find their scones to be a bit too dry for me.
The last time I was there, I ended up going for the chorizo omelette. I am a huge fan of chorizo and this dish did not disappoint. Though the dish was a little bit smaller than I was expecting, the flavors were definitely there. They even had some chunks of chorizo that were a little bit crispy, which added a nice texture.
Overall, this is a great little breakfast spot in the area. The service is friendly and attentive and all of their dishes are pretty solid.

Great location, great environment, great food. Their homemade biscuits are amazing, just don’t fill yourself up on them! Besides that, the menu is fairly typical for a breakfast spot, can’t go wrong with much of the food here.

Towns End is very nice space with a view right on the Embarcadero. Not too far from the AT&T Park (Home of the Giants) either. From the Omelets to the pancakes everything we ate and drank was great.
*Complimentary Pastry Basket with mini muffins, scones, and homemade jam* that’s a plus.
I ordered their Eggs Benedict: two poached eggs on homemade English muffins with Applewood-​smoked ham, topped with this lemony Hollandaise sauce that was delicious, served with a side of fruit. It was SO GOOD. I enjoyed it very much along with my mimosa’s. I would definitely come back =)

We came here for a solid good brunch. I loved the variety of muffins and bread they gave at the beginning of our meal. My salmon scramble was tasty and filling, and their coffee was good. Service was friendly and helpful and just the right times, and their prices were a-​ok. I would go back there again for brunch.

My boyfriend and I decided to give this local spot (to us) a try and were pretty unhappy we did. Complete waste of money. The food was very bland and unappealing. No creativity. Sometimes boring is fine but it was also just not good. My boyfriend had the hash which was dry and lacked toast. I had an omelet that made me wish I’d instead have just cooked myself… no flavor, veggies anything to make it at all interesting. Just cooked eggs on ham and cheese. Also, the entire wait staff were a little… off.
We’re not typically picky and critical about restaurants but we actually talked about how surprising it is that the spot was able to make it when the rent must be expensive and there are so many better brunch spots in san francisco that arw MUCH cheaper.
Additionally, we are typically careful about what we eat (grass fed and organic) and the food was of such poor quality my boyfriend literally had to hobble back to our house to use the bathroom (I cannot make this stuff up). I’m not feeling great myself.
If this spot was in my rural hometown I’d have given it 3 stars. But come on, San Francisco you can do better. Never again will I try out a spot without reading the reviews first.

This is one of the few places you can get a large breakfast delivery (for meetings downtown). We ordered through Caviar.
It was pretty good, the only negatives being it was about 30 minutes late (not sure if it was the restaurant or Caviar to blame) and the maple syrup was very watered-​down. Otherwise, decent and fairly priced.

To this place’s defense I came on a Sunday after Bay to Breakers, so of course it was going to be packed with relatively slow service.
But still an hour wait for your food IS NOT OK EVER WTH ME
even if they do have a basket of delicious heavenly little muffins and scones, I was still very very hangry. There is a beautiful view though which helped my hangriness, but I was still about to slap someone if I didn’t get some carbs soon.
All I wanted were some fluffy pancakes and thick syrup. I ordered the Blueberry Buckwheat pancakes with some side fruit. The pancakes were the worst I’ve ever had in my life. MY LIFE. They were thin and sad and dry. I want thin sad dry pancakes… said no one EVER. And the syrup’s consistency was super super watery like they added water to their syrup so they could have more or something… that’s my theory. Also, the waiter suggested I only get two, «Two is plenty unless you are sharing» so I happily obliged and said two would be fine. Wow even though the pancakes sucked massively I would’ve eaten a third because they were pretty small, and not very filling. I ended up eating more free scones just to be full. So sad.
I won’t be returning.

Having not planned ahead for a more popular brunch spot, we defaulted to trying Town’s End knowing there wouldn’t be a wait there. Located on the Embarcadero near where Townsend ends, this place had about half of their tables filled when we got there.
The best part of this place was the free scone basket that came before your meal. It had three different types all with different flavours and textures. In addition to that, there was a delicious homemade peach jam to go with it.
I ordered the Oatmeal Almond Fruit pancakes. I had high hopes for this dish, as it sounded like it combined a lot of things that I liked. I’d say it partially delivered. The oatmeal flavour came through in a subtle way, which was nice. The amount of slivered almonds they put in the batter was way too high though. It dominated the dish and definitely drowned out the fruit.
Overall, Town’s End was ok but there are other comparable brunch spots in a better location that I prefer. Perhaps if they had a more established outdoor area to make it dog friendly it would be a go to option but otherwise «I’ve experienced better.»
