History

Established in 2015.

The Soapbox Café is neighborhood café that serves American and Vietnamese coffee and Southeast Asian foods such as Vietnamese sandwiches (Bánh Mì) and spring rolls (gi cun).

The name comes from the historic speeches that were made «on the soapbox» and a major mission of our café will be to build a strong community presence that works to improve the neighborhood through our food/drink services and our work with the community.

Meet the Business Owner

Loan L.

Business Owner

We are a family owned and operated establishment that was 30 years in the making. Our family came to the United States in 1984 during the third wave of refugees from the war in Vietnam. In addition to working odd jobs, our mom cooked «cm tháng» (monthly meals) for people in the community to help pay for day to day expenses. From our humble beginnings in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, we are excited to begin this next chapter and look forward to meeting you.
