The Scandinavian School In San Francisco

I love this school. My son attended one year of pre-​school here and he loved it. To this day, every time we pass the school, he wants to run inside. The teachers are so kind, attentive, committed and loving. I personally think it’d be impossible to find a better school than SSSF.

Great preschool, very involved teachers and a great community. My 3 kids went there through pre K and had a great time. So happy we found this gem.

We had two children go through the program at the Scandinavian School and it was terrific! The teachers are nurturing, focused on the needs of each individual child and responsive to parents. This is a preschool I was happy to send my sixteen month old to with ease. .On a side note, while I understand the frustration of previous posters regarding the application fee — that is the standard for many preschools or private schools in the Bay Area or country for that matter. There are fees that are not refundable and application fees happen to be one of them.

I experienced great teachers. Some are playful and colorful, some caring, structured and prepared. They got great ideas how to approach conflicts between kids and make them help and listen. There is a good balance between structured and free play. The kids are outdoor to play at least once a day, rain or shine.

I agree with a previous poster, Johanna very happy to accept our application fee but never return any of my phone calls or my wife’s calls. We were on their waiting list for over 2 years and was told on many occasions, bluntly: Scandinavian children would always be 1^st priority.
I DID receive and attended many of the Spring and winter events which average $ 75 – 90 per adult but not once did we ever get a single call returned. Very sad for this business, zero customer service. I’ve met a few parents in the Forest-​Hill, Twin-​Peak neighborhood who have shared the same unhappy experience

Great place to go to learn some interesting languages. Pernille is by far the best language teacher I have had and has really helped me to learn for when I go back to visit my friends. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this for anyone looking to learn a Scandinavian language or about Scandinavian culture.

it’s great to be able to live so close to to the only licensed scandinavian school in the united states. a great place for children ages 9 months to 5 years to come and experience the scandinavian (danish, norwegian, and swedish) culture and language while interacting with scandinavian language speaking teachers and staff… as well as using the languages with other peers during play.
one might misunderstand this school for being a place where the child is taught danish, norwegian, or swedish; however, that’s not the case (they do offer adult classes in the evenings though)…
this school is more about being immersed in a scandinavian pre-​school system. it’s definitely open to any child of any nationality and not only people who are from scandinavia or have scandinavian ancestry… though most children have some connection to scandinavia.
the only downside would be that there’s a very long waiting list as the school structure limits the amount of children who can attend. if you’re not able to enroll your child right away, you should check out the morning mommy play groups that are held weekly and the afternoon programs. there’s one for each country (denmark, norway, sweden).
