The North Face

My friend and I visited many stores while in San Francisco and it wasn’t until we went to this particular North Face store that we were blown away with the type of customer service received. Donte deserves a lot of credit for making us feel welcomed and we could tell he truly cared about our experience at that store. Having worked in retail myself, I am always particularly observant when it comes to good customer service, and I walked out of that store impressed by the level of customer service that was given. The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in, and Donte gave us incredibly personalized customer service.
If you are within this area, and a fan of north face products, you won’t find a better place to shop.

I just wanted to send a BIG thanks to this location and especially to Melissa. I was visiting from out of town and needed some help. Melissa and her staff were so kind and helpful. From the moment I walked in, I was greeting and treated so well by everyone. Thank you guys so much!

I came shopping here last week for a few items and was extremely happy with the service. I was greeted with a smile when I walked in. I was helped by Nazy and she went above and beyond to help me find what I was looking for. I honestly don’t remember the last time I received such great customer service from not just Nazy but the entire staff.

On December 11, 2015, I donated my old Big Shot backpack to North Face at 180 Post Street in San Francisco for their research department and to the memory of Douglas Tompkins, one of North Face’s founders, who had died in a kayak accident from hypothermia on December 8, 2015. North Face’s products are of excellent quality, and they more than respect their customers. If you are searching for quality outdoors wear, North Face is a place to start both for product durability and CRM. The features of their products are well-​worth their prices.

You would think based on the location they would hire professional employees. The customer service at this store is appalling. The employees were more interested in talking to each other than helping a customer. I ended up buying a fairly expensive product because I love the brand, but I had to go on my phone to read more about the product due to the lack of customer service. It also took 30 minutes to check-​out, not because there was a line (there was no line) but because the level of incompetency was astonishing.

Love Northface products. I own the backpacks, sweaters, jackets etc etc. Went in last night to buy my sister a jacket (came out to $ 400).
Customer service here is a joke. Very rude. It’s always hit and miss here. I feel that they make assumptions and only talk to those they feel will make a purchase. This isn’t the first time this has happen to me. I never get good customer service here. Management needs to hire better personnel.
The door guy who was there last night before closing needs to go. His only job there is to greet people but was very useless. He didn’t even know what time the store closed. And didn’t want to help me when I asked to see if they could check the back for a medium sized jacket since all the ones out were large.
Even my sister was like they never give you good customer service here.

So I’m pretty sure this isn’t a common problem, but when I was there last week it was on the warmer side. And as I was going up each level was more miserable than the next. It was so terribly hot even the employees were sweating so much. That’s why I couldn’t give a high review.
Aaaaand I thought it was super weird how there are escalators going to each floor and none going down. Not to sound lazy but I think it’s strange that if you’re going to have them going up, you should have them going down also… instead of having people walk down the stairs.
Other than those two things there is a good selection of clothes for the whole family.

The selection is not as robust as the Vacaville outlets. There are also hardly any smalls or extra small sizes. The staff is well equipped and they’re super nice and helpful, I just didn’t find anything sleek. All the colors were bright neon and non-​appealing to me.
The sample sale next door was a zoo… takes too much effort to find things, and I didn’t even think the prices were much of a steal. Most jackets $ 60, but again the sizes were limited.

Came by here today after work! I absolutely love North Face clothing and I was really happy to finally discover one so close to work (roughly ten minutes from my job). I came in today because I am part of the North Face fitness training and you can redeem a free water bottle! Came in got the bottle and the manager talked to me personally and really made me feel welcome. He told me to come by again soon and even though I didn’t purchase anything (on this trip) I didn’t feel pressured or anything. Yes North Face clothing can be considered «pricey,» but you definitely get what you pay for! I will definitely be coming back here soon and grabbing a few things!

Got my first jacket here finally, despite stopping in at least a dozen times over the past few years. There’s some great options here, from casual sports wear you’d like for the city to some serious gear made for extreme weather sports.
The staff is pretty good, they check up on you but don’t hound you, which is great. There’s always someone at the door to greet you when you walk in and thank you when you leave.

This is a review for customer service:
I called the store with a question about one of their 3-​in-​1 jackets. Craig answered the phone and was extremely helpful. I only had one question, but he answered so many more than I actually had, which was great! It’s always a happy surprise to get customer service that is so above and beyond.

Pretty bad selection of outdoor gear combined with terrible customer service and really unpleasant staff who seem to have a stick up their butt. Every time I have to go in their I’m disappointed.

The store in general has great apparel and merchandise, but the one star rating is for the extremely UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE employee named M_​_​_​_​_​W (shoe dept.) I do not normally go out of my way to report someone, but I was so disappointed in his customer service that I had to open a Unilocal account just to rate him. Also in hopes that he will read this and learn from it. Yes, I understand this is a busy time of the year, and the retail industry can be overwhelming, but it is a good idea to THINK before you speak. With the store located in a city as diverse as San Francisco, one would think employees would have training on how to speak to their customers.
As I was looking at a pair of snow boots to give as a gift, I, like ALL customers take a few minutes to look at the item before deciding to purchase or not. After literally one minute, he looks at me and asks «what are your intentions!» Umm excuse me?! Obviously my intentions are to buy the shoes! First of all, the choice of words were rude, secondly, a customer should never be talked to in a condescending way, EVER! Your sole responsibility is to help customers, not to make them feel like they are wasting your time (which he wasn’t even the one who got me the shoes), or insinuating that I couldn’t purchase them. Not that it matters, but I still bought the shoes and two other items totaling a good amount.
I thought an outdoor store like Northface was supposed to have down to earth, friendly customer service. You’d expect that from a snooty high end store, down the street. As I’m reading other reviews I see that many people had horrible service as well.
M_​_​_​_​_​W, take some hospitality and diversity training, it might take you further in life.

This is one big flipping store…
Today I went with my BFF because SHE was looking for something NF. I just went along.
However, I did find a really good deal so I purchased a cream colored down jacket. Usually they are always in large sizes, so naturally I jumped on it when I saw Sale rack in small sizes.
Great price and perfect for San Francisco winters! And yes, my BFF found a cute vest she was looking for.
SCORE!

Pretty much what you expect, top quality, in season stuff, without the specials at outlets.
Was looking for the perfect jacket of a light jacket, water proof, and a removable hood but water resistant isn’t a popular feature down here lol. But friendly service, staff there tried.
Great location near Saks and macy’s.

Love this storeeeee! Finally found a backpack that screams me. I have been waiting for months for the summertime color backpacks to arrive at TNF. There are so many to choose from right now! Currently, they have some backpacks and clothing on sale with an additional 20% off! This store has two stories, with downstairs mainly for females and upstairs for males and kids.

A very limited selection of tents and backpacks. Mostly clothing some not really technical with a North Face label slapped on for young urban buyers who don’t go outside.
This brand used to be good and to be fair there are a few good products, but overall they have sold out.

Love this store. Love this brand… All North Face everything and I certainly want everything in this store. Love the Nuptse jackets & vests. I wouldnt mind having all the colors… The layout is interesting because most, if not all of the colder weather garments for men were upstairs, so the bottom floor was totally obsolete to me but you have to walk through half of it to get to the stairs to head on up. Customer service was just how I like it. They didnt crowd me and left me to browse freely without being bothered. The store is pretty. The 2^nd floor is huge with all the jackets, sleeping bags, camping supplies & accessories, etc. all on the 2^nd floor. One nice thing I noticed was they had colors and styles that I did not see on the North Face website. Not sure if It was regionally specific. I doubt it but I regret not purchasing a Nuptse vest that was a split color of navy and goldenrod. It looked like it was made for Cal Berkeley! One of my biggest regrets to this day. So if you see it, but it. Might not be there when you return or check the website.
Located in the Union Square area. Parking, as you know, is a battle. So park on the street if you find one but check the signs. Otherwise there are pay lots all over the place and there’s always the Union Square parking garage right in the middle of all the action. All are short walks to the North Face flagship store.

The nice thing about North Face is that you know you are getting a good product. This store has several stories and lots to choose from. I was a little disappointed to see that they mostly had out their snow gear. I know that this is prime snowboarding season, but I was hoping that they would have some more versatile pieces that they make out to try.

They carry quality products and my personal favorite are their wind breakers. It’s completely light and yet effectively warm. Also, their simple designs are just my kind of style.
To my surprise we’ve found sales all over the place. It was an appealing sight. I rarely find their products marked down.
I have yet come across a North Face store as big as this. Inventory can be found on two levels. A great variety of selections!

I found a great fuzzy vest and an awesome wind-​repellant jacket that will be keeping me warm throughout the cold SF winter hehe (I’m not used to the cold yet after moving from LA). There was one employee on the floor who was quite helpful, she helped me find the jacket in my size and try on different colors, but the lady at the register seemed kind of disinterested, which was not cool considering I was spending a good chunk of cash here. Even so they have a nice selection and you’ll leave with some good quality items =)

Went to the expo and there was a NF booth giving out freebies.
The rep gave everyone a coupon for free arm warmers. COOL!
I went to NF and asked whether they had the arm warmers and the dude was blunt to tell me that they only had a couple and that it was a gimmick to get people into the store.
For real?!

This is one flipping big store! I was really surprised when I first arrived.
Almost an overwhelming amount of options as far as anything need for being outdoors.

This is a dangerous store. I can’t go in here without buying something. Everything is stocked neatly and the layout of the floor is well-​planned. There is a good variety of merchandise and the staff is pretty helpful.
I’d give this place 5 stars, but there really needs to be something done with the amount of inventory they have. It seems that you can find popular and really nice The North Face styles, but in unpopular sizes. So for some it might be a hit-​or-​miss.

Scored a great outer shell at REI this past weekend but couldn’t find a liner fleece to pair w/​it — so trekked over to North Face
As I was asking them about tri-​climate gear, I was directed to the same jacket I purchased at REI the past weekend. It was nice to get verification that I had made the «right» outer shell purchase choice
But I was looking for a layering fleece. Asked about the difference in the weights, thicknesses & makeups of their fleeces as well as their jackets in general & was pointed to a couple of styles but alas, they weren’t exactly what I was looking for & there were only the 2 styles here.
There is a little bit of everything in this store (running, yoga, cold weather gear, street clothes, etc…) & as a result, the selection is left a bit wanting
I also find their stuff runs on the small side for me & it’s a mental hurdle to buy something 1 – 2 sizes bigger… but when combined w/​the fact the bigger sizes don’t always fit better, it’s a toss up
So I asked the staff about how certain pieces of clothes were supposed to fit & was advised, it depends on what I wanted to wear underneath it… oh, gee, okay
Compared to my experience at REI where the staff explained how one particular piece was supposed to fit snugly to keep in core body warmth while this other piece should be worn more loosely, I was hoping for the same level of expertise at a brand-​specific store
Some items were out of stock in my size — but didn’t get an offer to order for me online or check another location or anything… it was like, too bad, good luck finding it
So have to say, 3-​Stars for being North Face & I really like the brand. Good quality gear that lasts but you’d better read up for yourself to know what you want
