Specialties

We specialize in traditional Indian chai. Customers often say this is the best chai in SF and many even call it the best chai they’ve had outside India.

Our chai is very lightly sweetened and made with organic black Assam tea and Clover organic milk.

We have a few different flavors — the traditional Masala Chai (spicy), a delicate and floral Rose Chai (very unique), Ginger Chai (the owner’s favourite), plus seasonal specials. We also have a soy version of the Masala Chai.

History

Established in 2013.

Our first cart on Market St opened up in Jan 2012 and our 2nd cart in Dec 2012. This is our 3rd cart.

Ran across The Chai Cart at random one morning while I was in the FiDi for an appointment. Turned out to be a pleasant morning surprise — the chai was delicious! For $ 3.00 a cup and piping hot, the chai was totally worth it on a chilly morning. Definitely drop by and grab a cup the next time you run into The Chai Cart!

$ 3 for a small cup of the best chai that isn’t overly sweet and synthetic tasting. Unlike other chai at cafés, this place offers organic chai without the fake taste. Homera who works at the cart is super adorable and keeps me coming back. The Chai Cart offers a variety if flavors: ginger, rose, masala, soy masala, and malt. Each one is perfectly spiced. Feel free to sample each flavor to satisfy your curiosity. If you can’t decide on just one flavor you’re encouraged to mix for a more exotic chai. While you’re there pick up a frequent buyer card; buy 10 get one free small cup.

Just based on the chai itself, I’d give this a 5-​star rating. But the unpredictable nature of the cart’s appearance at this location forces me to give it only three stars. This morning was about the 10th time this month when I had my heart set on some chai and there was no cart to be found. I don’t know if unpredictability is part of the business model («they’ll appreciate us more if they don’t know when they’ll see us!») but for me, it’s frustrating and is slowly forcing me to look elsewhere for my morning hot beverage.

Great chai. Piping hot! I’ve tried the Rose chai (which is so different and soooo delicious) and the Masala (which is your typical chai so try the Rose!) They also have a Soy chai, but I haven’t decided if I want to try that… (I like soy milk but I’m not a fan of it being in other drinks…)
5 drink voucher is awesome! Save some dough and some time.
