Description

History

Established in 1890.

Elizabeth Ashe and Alice Griffith founded Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center in 1890, for «the improvement of social and hygienic conditions of Telegraph Hill and its neighborhoods.» As a nurse and social worker, they were concerned about the living conditions and opportunities of the immigrants who populated the northeast part of San Francisco. For the past 126 years, our neighborhood has been a destination for immigrants and a home for people of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
