My computer had a hard drive problem while I was out of town. Based on the overwhelming strong reviews, I waited until the TechCollective was open to have them help me upon my return. To make a long story short, they didn’t do the proper work until 2 days later (I was told I would probably have everything complete in a day and a half) and only then did they realize, they didn’t have the right hard drive and sent me somewhere else to start all over again. This was extremely frustrating and I did not feel they were very sympathetic to the situation.

I had the pleasure of working with Niko from Tech Collective on a project a few months back. He was very knowledgable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was a success. I high recommend them, and look forward to working with them again in the future.

TechCollective was very responsive on my request to schedule an appointment to evaluate my external hard disk drive which ceased to work. I was expecting to drop it off and wait for their assessment and estimate, but to my surprise I was provided with an assessment and since they had the part to fix the problem, they repaired while I waited… a whole 15 minutes.
It was a simple fix, but based on their customer service and knowledge, they would be my first choice to drop off retrieving data on a crashed drive or any other repairs.

I have to add to the love for these guys. I tend to have more computer issues than most people because I travel for work. It seems laptops are better suited for travel from your couch to your bed than across the country and around the world. The people at TechCollective are always willing to help. When we learned that my hard drive was potentially non-​recoverable, they recommended someone who could give it the best shot. (Ends up there were physical holes in the drive so we weren’t successful). They have given me advice on better security applications and on laptops that are more likely to handle the abuse I inflict on them. When I brought in my ancient by technology standards Dell, they ran multiple diagnostics but the issue did not replicate. Since they couldn’t do anything, they didn’t charge me. Who does that?
Also, when I come in and tell them something along the lines of «I dropped it off the bed. Then I dropped my laptop case the next day in a parking lot and someone kicked it. Oh, after that, a binder fell on it. Then it got knocked off the desk.. .. Yeah, the processors were running. I was pulling data.» They never scream «What the hell is wrong with you?» hey ony ask about what’s not working and fix everything they can.
I find myself wanting to bring them homemade brownies, but then I think that might be a little creepy. So I’ll just have to say they’re great rather than expressing it in baked goods.

I’ve had great results with these guys previously, but most recent event is even better. Called for appointment and explained symptoms with laptop. They said they could repair it but I probably would be better off getting a new laptop. They gave me a model recommendation based on my criteria. I was already thinking of replacing it, but they made up my mind for me. They could have repaired my laptop and I could limp along until it finally died. But their recommendation (especially on what model to get) was outstanding.
These people are great!

I have taken in my laptop and my Mac Pro and both times, I have been thoroughly satisfied. The prices are very reasonable and they can figure out a problem faster than I ever could.

Absolutely great service from the moment we called them on the phone. We were in panic mode– without any IT services and all 5 of our emails were down. There were tears and a few screams from the staff… then we called TechCollective and spoke to Brian. This was at 10am. Brian had a busy day, but took 3 hours at 2p to come save us. He fixed everything, we are up and running and we are creating a plan so that we’re never in this predicament again. Thank you so much!

I have an issue with my old computer; so I call for an advice. Taron give me really good advices and explain me what was the problem that I have it.
So he transferred all my files to an external storage in only one weekend; I dropped off my computer on Friday and he call me on Monday telling me that was all fixing and done only for $ 100.

The RAID drive I took into them was dead and will need a clean room set up to retrieve anything off of it but they were very thorough in trying every possibility and gave me the contact info for the best guys for the job.

My very old desk top PC died a couple of years ago. It’s been sitting around gathering dust ever since. I had no interest in salvaging the old computer but I did want the photos I had on the hard drive. In a fit of New Years enthusiasm I brought it in to TechCollective yesterday to see if they could salvage any data off it.
They opened it up, took out the hard drive, transferred the data onto a Flash drive, and recycled my old computer. $ 35 for labor + $ 20 for the flash drive.
Best of all is that the pictures of my son from age five to ten were all saved :)

A few months ago one of our employees called Tech Collective about some minor technical issues in our office. This time around, they were prompt, friendly, and did a great job fixing our issue!

I neglected to back up my home media drive (all music, vids, pics, etc.), and of course the inevitable happened. LaCie 2TB drive wouldn’t show on the desktop and was making a buzzing (not clicking) noise. I did some research online, extracted the drive from the enclosure and bought an SATA bay to plug the drive in, just to make sure the connection wasn’t the issue. It wasn’t, and after doing some more research (and trying all manner of consumer software recovery), it seemed certain that this would be an expensive hardware recovery (clean room, white suit, etc.), with no guarantee of success.
I’d seen these guys’ shop in the ‘hood for years and brought the disc over. Tom greeted me professionally and courteously, popped the drive in a nearby bay, as I watched the same experience I had been having unfold. He then tried something I hadn’t heard of… removing the logic board from the drive and using an eraser to clean the connections. It worked! We both agreed this was a lucky case, but I was out the door in 20 minutes with an accessible drive. I decided to forgo having the files moved to a new drive on site, went to Best Buy, got a new drive, and I’m happily copying files over as I type this.
To sum up my first experience with TechCollective: Nice, professional, optimistic staff, a clean, well-​organized shop, and a great co-​op ethos… I couldn’t believe I was in and out with such a valuable recovery for so little money spent. Granted, I was lucky on many fronts, but I can’t imagine having a better outcome, and I credit TechCollective for that. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

Okay, so, I am the opposite of a tech geek. I mean, I am completely dependent upon my technology, but don’t ask me what to do when a computer behaves badly. Slamming the door and crying had no effect.
Now I know exactly what to do. Bring it to these guys. We have a small biz and, thank goodness, thanks to these guys, we have an IT department:)
Full disclaimer-​we bring our stuff to them, they have never come to us, but, it’s a tower or a laptop, it’s manageable.

They repaired my Sony Vaio laptop in a reasonable amount of time and for a fair price.
The Tech Collective magically found and ordered the part from an authorized parts store. I say magically because the part number wouldn’t come up when you search the parts store and it wasn’t listed where it should have been. They told me about the effort they put into looking for it and how they finally located the order page. I know they weren’t exaggerating because I had tried looking for it myself before I called Tech Collective.
I also avoided the hassle and wait time incurred by mailing the laptop to some remote service center. Recommended!

I have been here twice, with two separate laptops & left both times without having my equipment repaired, so this is less a review for technical acumen than service.
There seems to be one person working at a time, so there can be long waits, if the attending tech is involved with another client. They also close for an hour at lunch, so that should calculate into your planning.
The tech was brusque & cast a vibe of not being all that interested in working on my laptop/​notebook. I have/​had an Asus Zenbook & apparently its difficult to work on & hard to find parts for — it was returned to me, unrepaired, & the tech attendant was not able to put it back together properly.
Additionally, I had to call to follow-​up on status — they indicated the would look at the next day Friday & give me a call, and when I called them on Tuesday, they still had not done so.
In the past, I have gone to Central Computers & their service was much better in that they seemed to care about my issue & were responsive, though I don’t see there reviews on this site to be much stronger? Though I am honesty surprised TechCollective has as strong reviews as they have? Perhaps they have different people working there who offer different levels of service.
Good luck — its so disheartening having a broken laptop & hoping I find a reliable service shop in the future, since this place is not it for me.
