Taylor Hotel Union Square

I had to say here for a few weeks while i was looking for an apartment awhile back. It was awful. DIRTY. HOT. NOISEY. YUCK.
RUN AWAY FROM HERE. it was over $ 750 for the week.
They make a lot of money off people. People coming & going, never an empty room… at least they could do is buy some furniture that is not broken, paint the creepy walls. get a professional Cleaning company. So he doesn’t make his poor Wife clean the rooms Like beast of Burden.
YUCK STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE. the pictures on his website make it look better than it actually is. The owner is Not Helpful. He is not nice. He should be nicer with the Bundle $$$$$ of Loot he earns per year. He is a Typical Greedy San Francisco landlord.

I have never stayed in a Hotel that insisted I wait while they inspect my room before checking out. This establishment is sketchy at best. The rooms are small but clean. That is about the best I can say. If you desire customer service of any kind keep looking.

Hotel jacked up the price from $ 89.00 to $ 270 for a double room just because Nike ½ marathon was going on. Price was outrageous for the room size and quality of room. My daughter ended up leaving as soon as she stepped into the room.

It is, what the add on line says it is… «no frills» hotel with a great location, clean rooms and outstanding service. I have been staying here for 3 months, as I commute from Phoenix every week. I don’t need much, just a shower and a clean, safe bed to sleep in. Mini fridge and microwave is a bonus. Free wifi and cable tv is great. It is family owned and operated, with a buzzer entry, day and night so there is never any unauthorized people wandering around. (Never have I waited more than 1 min to be buzzed in, even at 4am when I return from work). Fresh Paint a few weeks ago, so it is bright and cheery inside, and yes, the family that owns it, lives on site, so there is a slight hint of Curry in the air around dinner time, but it’s not as dramatic as some of the other reviews have been. I could pay more, but I could also pay less for equal accommodations, and I choose this hotel every week.

We book it for one night and we were really happy we did not book it for longer. The price was what attracted us the most.
The rooms are oke for just one night. It was clean but you can see that they do not put any effort in the hotel rooms to make you feel a little bit at home.
Locations is very nice.
Service is really crap. We could not even leave our big luggage for some hours to walk around in the city. As a solution the owner offered us that we could leave our luggage in the lobby not even behind a door or something. He would then try to keep an eye on it…
In the end I would not recommend this place to any one.

I really tried. I wanted to like this place, good rates and good location. The owner was a nice guy, check in was quick. The building is very old but I can live with it. What I couldn’t live with is the room. The worst, and I mean, the worst smelling room i have ever encountered, ever. I’m not kidding. As soon as I entered the room with black painted walls, clean bathroom (I think) but so old it looked dirty, I could smell this very, very strong and intolerable smell. I don’t know what it was, but it was disgusting. I sat down on the bed and waited to see if I could get used to it. Tried to watch TV but it was disconnected from the outlet. I connected it and watched it for about 45 minutes. My eyes were itching and I was starting to have a bad headache from the smell. It was about 8 pm, I got my luggage and left. Since I didn’t use the room at all, owner was nice enough to give me a refund, but I would not count on it. Owner said the smell was from the new paint about 3 weeks before and all rooms smelled the same, but I was not born yesterday and that wasn’t the smell of fresh paint. It smelled like bad food mixed with mold and sour fart (sour fart?), tough to figure out, I don’t know. Walked around for a few blocks and got at the Marriott for double the price. Yes, it hurt my pocket, but at that point I didn’t care, I was so disgusted by that room that I just wanted a room I would feel comfortable to spend the night in. If the only other place you can afford to sleep is under a bridge, stay here. Otherwise, believe me, spend a little more money and get something better.

If you are a looking for luxury turn away. If you are on a budget and do not need room service this is the best hotel.
At first it seems a bit sketchy, because of the style and age of the building, but what area of SF doesn’t look like that. It was fine the 3 days we stayed there. There was a fridge and microwave and cable television! The water temperature was good.
The best thing is the location. It’s safe and it’s near everything. If you don’t mind an old looking hotel then stay here. It was clean otherwise, it just had old paint and those old elevators.

Taylor Hotel, WORST PLACE IN SAN FRANCISCO!
1. I booked a «dbl bed room» according to Hostel times = 2 beds, when I got there they said I booked only 1 bed. So they charged me an extra $ 50/​night =$ 120/​night RIP OFF because there was an event that weekend and all hostels/​hotels were completely booked.
2. The entire building SMELLED like horrible cooking.
3. Expect to WAIT OUTSIDE IN THE COLD for at least 10 minutes if you come home after 12pm because a family operates the hotel = no 24hr regular hotel service. you have to ring the buzzer and wait forever to get in.
4. You better like stairs because the ELEVATOR NEVER WORKS because its the old style where you have to close the gate for it to work. and no one ever closes the gate, so it never works.
5. NO HOT WATER, you can shower with luke warm water.
6. The shower DRAINS SUPER SLOW, so you can stand in a bath of your dirty water while you shower.
7. The worker in the hotel LEFT OUR ROOM UNLOCKED.
8. As we were leaving the lady accused us of DOING DRUGS in our room in front of a few other people in the room… we were only in our room to sleep & utilize the bathroom???
I have traveled all over the world and this place is in my top 10 worst. RUDE & UNFRIENDLY SERVICE
not worth $ 120/​night, maybe at $ 20/​night. But I will for sure never go there again.
