After stopping by the other day(the first day in more than a year), I discovered to my delight that Taraval Market is now under new management(the receipt read«El Mediano Produce»). The market has undergone a renovation, cleaned up the aisle and back room. They no longer specialize in organic produce, but now the produce is fresher, cheaper, and more abundant. … Oh what the heck, I might as well follow the lead of the other Unilocalers by spewing out my grocery list: I ended up purchasing lemons, limes, potatoes, celery, strawberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and oranges. And I don’t remember how much it cost, but it was cheap. I would definitely do produce shopping here, although I need to continue to hit up other produce places for their more exotic produce selections.

This isn’t Rainbow. This isn’t 22nd and Irving. It’s the Outer Sunset(or Parkside as only Unilocal calls it). And no matter where I move to, I will be coming back here! A few days ago at a popular produce stand within the Ferry Building I bought 2 organic fuji apples and 1 bosc pear, neither of which were grown on this continent, for $ 3.36. Today I got: 8 button mushrooms 3 bananas 3 apricots 1 white nectarine 1 small head of cabbage a crown of broccoli and a bunch of radishes Total: $ 3.58 Granted they are all conventionally grown. But c’mon. At this price, I can eat great food every day, even if they are fairly common items. Oh, and the guy behind the counter is always such a sweetie.

Talk about a hidden gem. I’ve been passing this place for 4 months to and from work. I finally went in and loved it. I don’t remember if they have shopping baskets, but I went in and started carrying things with my hands. The produce is so cheap and good quality if you search. The small selection is fine with me as it has all the basics. For less than $ 4, I bought: 1 bunch of cilantro, a white onion, a lemon, 4 honey tangerines, and two each of tomatoes, potatoes, broccoli crowns, carrots. They also have dairy and bread products, but no meat. There are bags of overripe produce for 50 cents too. I love this place if only for their cilantro: 50 cents for a huge beautiful bunch. I’m in love. And the people are so nice. The guy started watering the produce while I was looking at them and he apologized for them being wet. No worries, I like my produce to be well-watered so they’re delicious!

While this place doesn’t have much of a selection yet, I am still grateful this place is within walking distance to pick up my fair trade coffee and cage free eggs at a great price. Accepts credit cards when the order is $ 10 or more.
