Suchada Thai Massage

One of my favorite places to get a Thai massage. I’ve been to Thailand before and this place is pretty close to authentic. If you are new to Thai massage, this might not be the best place to go. They use a lot of force but this is a good place to go if you would like to experience a Thai massage. The ambiance is amazing and they give you clothes to change into. Everything felt clean and the workers are very nice.

I’ve been going to Suchada for many years. I had a couple of masseuses that I really liked and requested them over and over. Things change and they moved on. The replacements have been very junior and inexperienced. Over the last year there have been a couple of new masseuses that I thought were good, and literally within a visit or two later they were gone as well. At the same time prices have been going up (not extravagantly — maybe $ 10 over three or four years).

I have chronic shoulder/​neck issues thanks to being chained to my laptop and finding Paula at Suchada has been a godsend! I walk out of my almost-​monthly massage feeling like I have new shoulders every time. Suchada is also reasonably priced (especially for this city!) and I haven’t had a negative experience yet. Ok how should I begin? This is the worst massage place I’ve ever been to!
Walked in at 8.20pm for a 8.30pm appointment i made over the ph. Hi, I’m BLANK I have an appointment at 8.30pm this is my first time here. I ask, would you like me to pay first or at the end of massage? Guy says, Pay now. After paying I sit down and notice shoes all over bench and shoe rack. No one else is in the reception area I wait 10mins… then ask, would you like me to take off my shoes? Guy says, Yes. Then I asked the reception about the nice tea I wouldn’t mind buying; He said he did not know the name of the tea then asked co worker and they did not know :(You lost a sale! Now it’s 8.40pm and guy tells me masseur is running late and we don’t start till 8.55pm. Masseur gives me a few pushes and I know I’m not going to like it… Circled the places to focus on he didn’t even focus on… I told masseur over 5x too strong too painful. I said STOP, I’m not going to pay for 1.5hr massage when you come in close to 9pm. So the drama continues… reception says we can’t take care of the bill at the end cuz I need to leave now (9pm). So I have to take care of the bill NOW, in the massage room. I have to find my CC tell him to void the transaction and recharge! I’m sure it’s now 9.15pm. Man, I so did not want to tip!
So in other words NOT relaxing Not peaceful I requested Thai Oil Aroma — it was painful more like kneading dough, like acupressure could not relax whatsoever. I would not come back and I would not recommend my friends to come here. You have been warned!

Been here 10+ times… I would say only maybe 3 – 4 times out of the 10+ were enjoyable. Generally, the massages are super weak regardless of whether you request extra strength. Also, I feel that most masseuses here are not that experienced. very inconsistent for sure.

Booked last minute and got a good prenatal massage. My massage therapist looks slight but she is mighty. To quote a former celebrity governor, I will be back!

The massages are excellent (recommend trying a few therapists so you find a good match).
So why 4 and not 5 stars… the place is cleaned by the staff but it could really do with a deep clean.
1. There is mold/​dust on the extraction fan in the shower room.
2. People walk barefoot on the floors which for obvious reasons requires more cleaning than a once over with a Swiffer duster!

Nicole was my masseuse and she did a great job. Very professional and kind. I got the traditional 1 hour massage. Everything was just right… the smell of the room, the ambiance, the oils/​lotion, the friendly staff and my massage. I had a few areas that really needed attention (shoulders, neck and lower back). After she spent the bulk of her time working out the kinks in those areas, she started working on my arms and hands. Omg the hand massage was great. Next she proceeded to massage my legs and feet. Then she twisted me up a bit and cracked my back in places that have needed to be cracked for almost a year (if not longer)! I left feeling like a million bucks.
Only con is it didn’t last long enough. I should’ve made a longer appt
Next time I’m in the city I will be making a 2 hours appt to see nicole!

Had one of the most disappointing Thai massages at suchada in a while. Booked for an 8 pm appointment with someone named Don who clearly was still in training or had not been to traditional Thai massage school. I have been getting Thai massages for over 14 years having gotten addicted to them during my 2 years living in Thailand during the early 2000s.
Don clearly had no idea what he was doing. It was almost worse than not getting a massage at all. He squeezed around my shoulders and neck a few times (nothing traditional Thai about it) and even after I told him I wanted more pressure because I had sore shoulders it felt like a 5 year old was giving me a massage.
I have had other good massages from experienced people at suchada before so clearly the management is trying to make money off of inexperienced masseurs. Very sad and disappointing.

Wow. I have a chronic back injury. I’ve managed pain and modified my lifestyle for the past five years. Initially, I came here for a relaxing massage. I told Manee to avoid my lower back because of the injury. However, after assessing my physical makeup, she told me that the massage would actually help my back. She spent a good 30 minutes working all areas around the spine, which were incredibly inflamed. I’m not gonna lie, it was painful. But the pain would subside almost immediately after she released, and after 90 minutes, I stood up straight for the first time in a long time. I was able to flex and move in ways I haven’t in years. And today, I feel great! I’ll certainly be back (no pun intended).

Awesome experience with Jay for a deep tissue/​trigger point session. The front desk was super friendly and informative when I arrived, as it was my first time. There’s a sauna to chill out in before/​after your session, and the whole place has a great vibe.
Online scheduling is super easy, and I was able to get an appointment within an hour on the same day. They have plenty of rooms and two locations with staff on call, so it’s a lot more likely to be able to get an appointment on the same day, which is awesome since I never seem to plan ahead for massage.
I’ll definitely be back soon to check out their other offerings!

WOW. That is my experience in one word. I have been suffering from at-​times severe lower back pain for over 7 months. I booked my appointment this afternoon not expecting any sort of permanent relief, but I did expect a deep massage and stretching. And that’s exactly what I got. I booked a two-​hour therapeutic massage with a male therapist.
The facilities are calming and attractive. The rooms are only divided by curtains, but it was totally fine with me. The massage was on a bed on the floor. It was very comfortable and I felt very relaxed. The massage was pretty intense… I specified strong pressure and strong it was. There were times it was a bit too painful, but I just breathed through it because I knew what good it was doing. My therapist Anthony guided me through the massage without a word (I don’t even know if he spoke English and it made no difference). The stretching was quite intense at times, but again, I knew what good it was doing. The only thing I can complain about is the face cradle: because it’s on the bed I found myself breathing mostly recycled air while on my stomach.
The two hours went by so quickly, and I was in a bit of a daze when we were finished. I feel amazing and my lower back feels much better (although I doubt it’s permanent). The price is reasonable and I would recommend Suchada wholeheartedly. I’ve had a lot of massages in my 45 years and this is quite possibly the best. I will definitely be back.

I have been going to Suchada for the last 6 years. I have traveled in Thailand and found Suchada to be the real deal. In the last year, I purchased a membership so I could have monthly massages. I am convinced I have been healthier since going monthly. My only gripe is that the online booking system doesn’t really secure the therapist you want. Twice my therapists were other than the one I chose with the online booking and once the therapist was an outside contractor so I had to pay on the spot, even though my membership had paid for that month. I’m annoyed that my last review was deleted. I booked a couples massage for my partner’s birthday last Feb, and since it was a milestone birthday, I had prepared 3 days of surprises for him and wanted to make sure everything went well. And everything was going well… until this massage.
We get massages every 2 – 3 months so we have been to many places in SF. I booked this place after reading the Unilocal reviews, and went with the couples package that included a foot massage and scrub, massage and body scrub.
So we were greeted at the front door by a lovely woman — so far, so good. We were offered some water, and asked to take a seat. We were then given some robes and taken to our rooms. The couple’s room was fairly small, but it’s SF so it’s okay.
We put on the robes and mine was a bit too small. I saw that I had gotten a Medium so I went outside to ask if they had a large. The same nice woman looked and couldn’t find any other sizes. That sucks… I expect more given I was paying $ 300/​person.
I had requested two women masseuses for my partner and I but instead I was assigned a male, and he was assigned a female. We switched.
Time for the foot massage and scrub, which I had to keep my clothes on for. This foot massage was the worst I’ve ever had. My masseuse did not speak English so I could not communicate with her. She put my feet in a really hot bowl of water and kept splashing water over my feet and there was no massage. There was a scrub, which was lightly put on and splashed off… Awful experience. I was not looking forward to my massage at this point. I really should have stopped here since my partner didn’t like his foot massage either, but it was his birthday so we kept the peace.
Time for the massage. Before the massage, I had to change clothes since I had no robe. The masseuse would not knock before entering through a curtain — there are no doors. This got annoying really fast.
Then the massage started and it was the worst massage I’ve gotten. I asked for more pressure, and she wouldn’t understand. Before this massage, we had been asked to fill out a chart with our pressure areas and sensitive areas that we wanted work on and didn’t want work on — none of these were addressed in the massage. I prayed for the massage to get better but it never did. I hoped my partner at least had a good time and I later found out that he didn’t.
After the massage, we took showers to get the body scrub off, and the water was freezing for the both of us and would not heat up. What is going on here?
When I told the lady at the front that I had an awful massage, she sweetly apologized and then said, «that will be $ 600. Would you like to tip?» Uh, no. I shouldn’t have paid. And I would have been more vocal if it hadn’t been a birthday celebration. Thanks for nothing.

I’m happy that I was able to book a same-​day appointment for an herbal massage the other day, as my lower back was killing me. I called and made the appointment for 9−10PM. Then they called me back, saying to come in at 8PM instead… which wasn’t a huge deal, but what if I had other plans that night? They charged me as soon as I walked in and then my massage began. It was pleasant and much needed. I felt much of the tension disappear. It definitely hit the spot! It would be nice if the rooms were private.

True to form Manee saves the day! I showed up early for my long overdue rendezvous with the gifted and talented healer Manee. I proceeded to wait for 45 min for my bliss voyage. Normally I’d be very uncomfortable waiting this long for a scheduled appointment but the promise of quality work had me chilled out. Unbeknownst, they have a sauna I could have relaxed in. Needless to say if it were not for Manee this review would have a very different tone. I feel great! After my session Manee stayed late to allow me the divine privilege of a luxuriant sauna and shower post session to ensure her place in the annals of the bodywork hall of fame. Give thanks for life!

I’ve been coming to this place or the other one in soma for years … not often, and I should really come more often. They do a great job with a traditional Thai massage. I lived there for years and they have it figured out. Seems more or less fairly priced, not cheap, but more or less ok

I’ve never had a traditional Thai massage before, so I was thrilled when my boyfriend surprised me with an e-​gift card for this place. I figured I’d use the gift card after the new year, in order to begin 2016 stress (and knot) free.
I booked an appointment less than 24 hours in advance using their online appointment system, which was very convenient and simple. I liked that their online scheduler lets you pick what therapist you’d like to see. Since it was my first time, I chose to go with Manee as other Unilocalers had great experiences with her. I was able to see her and all of the other therapists education and experience using the online scheduler, which was also great.
My first impression walking in was that it was a tiny space but relaxing and welcoming. The orange water was a nice touch (I’m a sucker for complimentary beverages when I’m treating myself) The woman at the front desk was nice enough and I was called back right on time.
My therapist didn’t introduce herself, but I’m assuming it was Manee. She was very sweet and considerate. With a traditional Thai massage here, they will give you clothes to change into. The tank top was too tiny for me but she got me another one that was a bit more comfortable. I would have felt more comfortable had they been just a bit better prepared when they saw that I was plus size. Fortunately, I’m not one to feel awkward or to feel embarrassed about my body, so it wasn’t a big deal for me when she went to get another shirt while I was waiting, but I know that some other fat customers would feel embarrassed.
The massage started with my back and sweet Jesus did she do things to my back that I’ve never experienced before! I was so close to call «uncle» so many times, but I stuck with it. I didn’t find the massage all that relaxing (the arm, hand, and head part being the exception) due to the pressure, but I figured that would be the case with this type of massage. The room was quite relaxing, though, albeit difficult to breathe at times when she was doing her thing on my back I think it’s safe to say that Thai massage therapists are definitely the most athletic of the massage therapists.
Two hours later, I was on my way out the door, with no tension whatsoever in my body.

I had a 7pm appt for a 1.5hr Thai massage that was supposed to be an hour massage and half hour foot reflexology. Ended up getting just an hour of massage that ended at 8pm with no reflexology, but was charged for the whole thing saying I came in early.
The guy at the front desk kept insisting I came in at 6:15. I work in Redwood City, and didn’t leave work until after 6pm, and arrived for my appt at 6:45/6:50ish. There’s no way I could have been in early.
Oh well, the massage part was good at least. And I was pretty relaxed and dazed after the massage. So, I wasn’t in a mood to argue, and even tipped the masseur. But I’m definitely not coming back.
If suchada folks are reading this, check your security cam footage to see when I walked in, and at least acknowledge that you guys ripped me off, instead of making up stories about bumping up my appointment by half hour because I came in too early.
I’ll stick with Siam Orchid next time, where they don’t rip you off and provide the same great massages.

First time trying Traditional Thai Massage and it was ahhh-​mah-​zing! Staff was friendly, relaxing ambience, and the massage was a hurt so good massage!

My boyfriend and I had a great experience with the Couple’s Escape. The ambiance is very soothing and peaceful. We were able to be in the same room with each other, the showers to rinse off are connected (which is fun) and there is a sauna steam room to enjoy right after.
You start off by filling out a sheet that asks for pressure level and to circle spots for the masseuse to focus on. I know we all like to think we can «take a hard massage»…but with this place, I recommend starting with Low/​Soft pressure first. These people have hands cut from diamonds. They are STRONG… forreal.
It’s so MUCH easier to say «harder» than it is to say «softer»…at least for me, I feel like a little b**** when I say I can’t take it. So, really… start soft, work your way up. My boyfriend said «medium» and he stayed awake the whole time. I said «soft» and I think I blacked out a couple times because it was perfect.
The couple massage is also a good deal. $ 350+ for two people for TWO HOURS? LEGIT. I would definitely bring us back.

After complaining of lower back pains, I was recommended to get a massage at this Suchada location by two independent people and thank goodness I listened.
Was able to make a same day appointment (actually within a few hours) online. Suchada called me to confirm and off I went to my 1^st Thai massage.
Upon arriving, I was offered water or tea and also asked to fill in a sheet with information such as pressure desired and problematic areas.
My appt was a bit behind schedule (10 – 15 min or so) which was kind of annoying but the place was pretty busy.
My actual massage was amazing — I didn’t know what to expect for my 1^st thai massage experience but it was the best pain possible. The therapist really focused on my back as I had requested and she kneaded and put pressure on every sensitive knot in my back.
I came out of my session refreshed and relaxed. I also purchased one of their in house balms that I later used on my back after a hot bath and it provided additional soothing relief.
Will definitely return as often as I can. Convenient location to caltrain and very accommodating appt times available til 9 or even 10 pm

Pleasant therapist… spent way too long on my back, Stretching may have at the most been about 90 seconds in a 90 minute session. Traditional Thai massage, aka lazy mans yoga, was not what I had.
The tea in the waiting area in the hot pot was not warm.
General disappointment. Not going back. San Fran has much better to offer.

I just had an exfoliation herbal massage with Dang and it was amazing! They use organic scrub oil, so you really feel like you’re getting heathy inside and out.
Incredible 90-​minute massage and scrub, plus shower and sauna afterwards for $ 115+ tip. Terrific value, plus same-​day availability, really lovely front desk lady, zen-​like and clean shower/​sauna.
I should also me tin that I have a low-​back injury and Dang was able to adeptly manage protecting my back and giving a terrific, deep massage.
I get massage at Asian foot massage/​reflexology shops frequently, and this is nice step-​up from the typical. I’ll definitely be back!

Whenever I think of getting a massage or being pampered, most of the time it consists of thoughts of lying on a comfy pillow top table, sounds of soft ocean waves gently playing in the background, warm aromatic scented oils being gently caressed into your skin, and feelings of rainbows and butterflies drifting in and out of your mind due to such euphoria, such serenity.

Well I’m here to tell you that if you’re looking for that type of massage, you best go lookin’ somewhere else!
Upon entering, you’ll notice a very clean and warm environment. Plants, drapes, tall ceilings; I was even excited to see the small display of herbal remedies available for purchase.
I’ve had several massages here and each time I honestly have to psych myself up for a boxing match. These massage therapists are no joke. Here, I’ve been body manipulated into a human pretzel, stretched to the point of wanting to scream «Uncle Uncle!», bones popping as they walk all over my back, wincing from the elbows grinding into my thighs, and clenching my teeth each and every time an overly hot heating pack was freshly placed over my skin.
Yet, I still return time and time again.
And NO I do not have some sort of fetish for pain, thankyouverymuch.
I come here because it actually works! I always come out feeling more limber and relaxed, albeit very sore. I hold a lot of stress in my upper back and a lot of the knots are usually worked out pretty well after a session.
I do recommend coming here if you’re looking more along the lines of a therapeutic massage. Yes, it gets pretty intense, but no pain no gain. Am I right or am I right?
Prices are reasonable and cheaper than the frou frou spas out there. You can spend anywhere from $ 80 – 120 depending on how long of a session you opt for.
Just resist the urge to put on your boxing gloves. These people come in peace!

Simply put: the best Thai massage I have found in San Francisco. I have been twice, I experienced two different masseuses, and BOTH times I left feeling completely worked over, total body devastation, IN A GOOD WAY! They turned me into jelly, which my body desperately needed.
On my most recent visit my therapist was named Phai, and I am completely comfortable recommending her. Although she doesn’t speak English perfectly, which seems to be pretty common at these Thai massage businesses, she understands THE LANGUAGE OF THE BODY. She gave me the pressure I needed and checked in with me to make sure it was okay. You could tell her hands and feet were experienced and she was responding to the feedback my body was giving her without my having to speak it out loud. (Which is good, given that I was face down for at least half the time.)
Whatever screening process they use for their staff, whatever school or training academy they are recruiting them from (presumably somewhere in Thailand, but who knows) it’s working.
I booked a 90-​minute session, which included 30 minutes of foot reflexology, and I have to tell you, probably the best massage in my life. I went in a ball of tension, Phai chewed me up, spat me out, and I left feeling like a blissed out quivering mound of jelly.
I will admit, I have checked out other places in search of a bargain. I’ll get an Amazon Local coupon advertising $ 45 for 90 minutes or something like that, but the other spots simply DO NOT live up to Suchada. To quote the pizza delivery boxes, «You’ve tried the rest, now try the best!» I would rather pay $ 100 for 90 minutes at Suchada and know that I am getting the best possible massage, than pay $ 45 at another establishment and leave feeling better, but not totally satisfied and fulfilled. SUCHADA works me over, puts my body through the total «squeeze» that it needs. When I walk out of there, I know that my system has been re-​booted.
Don’t plan on doing anything after your massage. When I walked out of there, I felt wiped out, a little dazed, and in no shape to deal with driving or, even worse, PARKING in my neighborhood. Have a friend of Lyft pick you up and take you home, it’s worth it. I would plan on lying down, drinking water, and taking it easy afterwards. Cheers!

I’ve been to the one on Bryant and have had good experiences there. I literally just got back earlier today from a couple’s 90 min Swedish for my bf’s birthday, and I was kind of disappointed. I don’t think prices are super affordable or anything either.
My biggest problem: It was loud, about 50% of the time. The door to the reception area was left open and I could clearly hear the girl making an appointment! That should not happen.
Also didn’t bother telling clients to shush, as they would speak in a «normal» voice. You need to whisper for god’s sake. Every «room» is only separated by a thin cloth and there are NO walls. You can hear everything, from the guy saying plainly and loudly «softer!» and his pained groans.
Some random lady even came in looking for an eyeliner or something and being super loud. What the hell? Gtfo if you can’t be quiet! Also, they have this AC unit or heater or something that kept turning on and was so loud I could barely hear the soothing spa music.
And every time they took in a new client, they would be realllly loud, slamming the bathroom door, dropping the mats, etc. WTF. I am so done with this place. It’s not as nice as the pics make it look, trust me. It’s tiny, kind of old looking, loud, NO walls at all and I feel sooo sorry for anyone situated right next to the bathroom.
I was relaxed for 5 minutes, stressed and annoyed for the next 10, and repeat x6.

it’s about time I gave props to Suchada. I’ve never really thought myself as masochistic until I tried my first Thai massage at Wat Phở in BKK. It’s a good kinda pain. No pain, no gain, right?
Then with the help of Unilocal,I found Suchada back in 2006. I still miss the days of Suchada’s massages in the converted garage of a house in the Richmond. Apple, the owner was great.
Three stores later, Suchada still rocks. I still enjoy being beat up into a pulp by petite Thai ladies. I prefer the Bryant shop as it feels less claustrophobic. The staff are always great. Suchada is still the best compared to all the other Thai massage shops in SF.

Très bon massage, l’endroit est un peu petit, et avec des clients partout. On marche pieds nus, j’aime bien cette atmosphère.
La masseuse a tout de suite senti mes points de tension, j’ai été ravie du massage. Un peu douloureux, mais les jours suivant je fus très relâchée.
