Stevens Moving & Storage

I had a horrible experience with Stevens moving company. It was the worst moving experience in my life. I will tell you in short otherwise I’ll have nightmares about it.
I came to know about Stevens from
. I got a comparatively cheaper quote. The customer service was very good. The main person was so friendly that I thought I made a good choice. I forgot that all the scams look good from outside.
The moving was supposed to be done on a Saturday at 2 pm. They didn’t arrive on time. Whenever I called Stevens company, I was told that they were just on their way. At last at 4pm the actual movers called and said that they had to do another job before coming to our place, so they should reach our apartment at 10 pm. What??? Considering that I was suffering from flu and I had little kids, I re-​scheduled the appointment the next day at 2pm again.
The next day they came at 7 pm instead of 2. Within that time they never answered my phone. Suddenly the great customer service did not look so good anymore. I sat in the middle of the packed boxes and wondered what would happen if they never come today.
When they arrived at 7 pm I thought my good days are back again. Among three movers, two started loading boxes and the fat foreman started talking to me about the paperwork. What he told me with his terrible english accent was –
1. Whoever gave me the quote does not have any clue. Movers dont care what I was told before.
2. Most of the items have to be unpacked and then they will repack them again with their own material.
Whichever item is not packaged by them is not going to the new place.
3. The packaging materials are not cheap. A tape would cost, say $ 24.
4. They will take 2 hrs to pack, 2 hours to unpack and 1 hour to drive (within the city 3 miles), so total 5 hours at least
5. The original quote was $ 300+, but the new quote is $ 1000+.
6. If I pay by cash they will give me 10% discount (you know why they want cash)
7. After loading the truck, I have to pay, otherwise they wont unload.
8. I have to obey all of their conditions I mentioned above.
After listening to this and arguing with him for some time I realized that I got scammed. I along with my family were surrounded by a bunch of cheaters (and what not) on the last day of my lease in the apartment. I had to agree with his conditions.
To save some money I wanted them to exclude a few items. Also I didn’t have that much cash, so I said I would pay by credit card. The foreman insisted us to pay by cash. After he learned that I cannot withdraw that much money via ATM, he was visibly upset and his behavior became very rude.
They loaded all the items very sluggishly as if they were on vacation. It took total three and half hours to pack, load items and drive to the new location. That means we still had one and half hours remaining (out of 5 hours of contract) — is that right? Well, I thought so.
After going to the new apartment suddenly the foreman declared that it was getting late, so they would dump all the boxes in our patio or leaving. They would not unpack anything (without any real explanation). We moved a lot of times before and we knew that’s not what movers do. We argued with him. Then he went to the truck and started smoking and chatting with his other mover mate (he was in hurry. o yeah). In other words he ignored our requests.
Out of three movers only one unloaded the boxes from the truck when other two (including foreman) were engaged in smoking. He unpacked only the beds. He dumped the packages in the appropriate rooms though after we requested him again and again. All in all the move was completed by them in four hours if you call it «complete».
We breathed a sigh of relief after they left. It was the worst experience so far, but we knew that it could have been worse considering the type of people the movers were.
After a few days we found out that my portable car GPS was missing along with some bank checks. I kept them in a box by mistake instead of carrying them with us. When we called and asked about it, they totally refused the claim and said that without evidence we cannot claim anything.
Am I going to recommend this moving company to anybody??? Not even to my enemies!!! I believe if somebody gives them a good ratings he must be their inside man.

Stevens was simply awful.
The initial estimate was 3 hours, $ 241.80, scheduled from 8−10am.
Eight hours later, we discover that Stevens was not moving us, but some other company they had contracted. The estimate was at least doubled, and we had only received a quote after the move had begun.
Long story short, Stevens pulled a bait-​and-​switch with us. They agreed to do the move, and once they had double-​booked themselves, we were farmed out to a much more expensive mover without notice.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

They took my stuff on Nov 4^th, I’m still waiting for it to arrive, on Dec 2^nd. They won’t return my phone calls or emails.

DON’T EVER USE THEM!!! BIG SCAM!!!

$ 300 for a move for two people from two different locations to one brand new apartment all withing 5 blocks of each other! Sounds reasonable right, that’s what I thought when they gave me that quote.
The day of the move: Moving guy comes into the apartment and start wraping everything up and says we will deal with money when we get to the new place. At the new place he gives a new price $ 600 + $ 100 for every stairs they have to go up + and extra $ 100 for every stop. So for my move grand total $ 1200!!! You gotta be kidding me! Oh and by the way all of my stuff is in his truck now so he demands payment before he gives it back.
Biggest rip off ever! Ended up giving them $ 600 for a move that shouldn’t have been more than $ 300. Found myself in my new apartment with scratched furniture, an empty wallet, and a headache.
PLEASE NEVER USE THEM and don’t be dumb like me and ignore Unilocal reviews!!! If they average 1 star, that’s a sign!

PLEASE NOTE that these guys are also operating under different business names such as «United Moving Group» and «U Van Lines.»
At the very least we are disputing the credit charge for $ 2,300 with our bank and creditor, and we will not be responsible for the payment as this is fraud in one form or another. They did not provide us with a copy of the signed contract, illegal, nor an invoice, illegal, or credit receipt. .. illegal.
It’s funny, but also quite obvious, that these guys don’t operate in specific areas where people would not accept this sort of illegitimate business practice without some form of VIOLENCE. It is amazing that these guys don’t catch a good beating more often haha.

Worst move ever!
These guys gave us a quote for $ 700 to do our move from Sac to the south bay. When we got to our new place they told us it would be $ 2700 for the move, due to backing materials and fuel surcharge. They wouldn’t unload the truck until we paid them and told us that any time we wasted calling the manager would be added to the bill.
These guys are a total scam! never use them, their quote is meaningless.

There were a lot of good reviews about Stevens Moving and Storage. It is definitely by company itself. We had a very bad experience with them. Going by reviews we opted them. Other assumption was price (which is high) but we thought it is relative to service and insurance coverage.
Timeliness: We had to shift within same apartment but to a different unit. Shifting appointment was at 2:00 PM and they didn’t turn up till 6:20 PM. There was no response to calls we made.
Bargaining after reaching place: They were 3 of them, though we had requested for just 2 of them (ours was a 1BHK). The key person was very rude and was trying to convince us that we need to pay for all three of them, otherwise it will take atleast 4 hours to complete the shifting. Some how we didn’t agree to it and said we will only pay the amount that we got in quote from company. Infact only 2 of them were doing real moving and key person was just bargaining with us till the end. When half of the work was done, he started asking for payment. My husband even paid the money that owed them.
Theft: Once the payment is done, they just didn’t even care of complete the work. I was waiting in old unit and my husband was waiting in new unit, and in the mean time they had already left even without informing us. Only ¾th of shifting was complete for which they took only 1 hour and we paid them for 3 hours work. After reaching to our new unit, I noticed that my office bag was lying open. I had closed that bag and kept in closet because I had all my jewelry in that bag. My wallet was open and all money that I had (~50 $) was missing. From my jewelry box 3 finger rings and 2 ear-​rings were missing. I personally had kept those jewelry in the box before we started moving. Jewelry were worth ~800 $.
Incomplete work: Their quote included all disassembling, packing, unpacking, assembling. They just threw things here and there in our new unit. The new TV stand edges were all chipped off. The TV stand screws were all missing which we didn’t get even today. This movement was a complete mess. Till 11 PM, me and hubby had to shift the pending items.
No response for claims: When we called for claims, they were not responding for anything. No response to emails.
Moral: Never go by price and reviews.

We just used this company to move and it was horrible. I have moved 15 times in my life and this was the worst move ever.
They quoted us $ 455 to move us from Sunnyvale, Ca to Pleasanton, CA. I called to confirm the price, and Ruben guaranteed it.
On the moving day, they movers showed up and demanded that we put a «to not exceed» price on the contact. We put $ 650. They would not accept it.
They would not move our items until we agreed to put $ 1,100 down!!!
And then they went on to inform us that each appliance would cost $ 200 each to move — to ensure its safety!
They did not know how to pack the truck, so they ended up leaving several of our items behind including our bed frames, dryer, and much more!
We ended up taking 2 trips on our own moving the rest of the items.
They also dragged a few of our pieces of furniture across the wood floor, banging into door ways, etc.
Very unprofessional, it felt like a complete scam.
They also left trash at our old property and at our new property!
We ended up paying $ 930 for the move.

— Move was supposed to start between 2 — 4 pm started at 7:30 pm
— We were supposed to use card to pay but because THEY were late we were unable to use card because it was too late.
— When pointing out they were late, the supervisor said «We are not late, it is the company that is late.» So… let me get this straight you are not late but your company is even though you are representing the company. What a great employee! He blames the company for being the problem instead of taking the fall himself. Everyone knows you should take the blame so that it doesn’t reflect on the company. Unless apparently you hate your job that much.
— Supervisor, Eugine, was unfriendly, childish, ill-​mannered, arrogant, and completely irresponsible. He did nothing but mouth off when we asked questions.
— When I asked for the rate sheet because the price was significantly different then last time, I got a shrug and a not my problem and supervisor refused to show the sheet.
— Supervisor called his boss when we had a disagreement on before or after payment and when we asked him to call his boss back again because nothing changed after he called his boss even though his boss said he would talk to the guy he refused to call back. Stating first no one is there, then he didn’t want to use his minutes, when offered our phone he didn’t know the number.
— Supervisor refused to give his full name to us when we asked for it so that we could use it to complain later on.
Overall this move was horrific and stressful. Eugine was nothing but a pain in the butt and a child and if a company is using him as a supervisor, a representative for what the company stands for, then I am afraid for all people who use this company. The movers themselves aren’t that horrible though they could use their brain a little more but this Eugine is an incredibly huge child. If he feels threatened by your intellect be sure that he will use the «he did it» attitude and blame everything on anyone but himself.

Do not use them!!! Terrible business practice, Liars, Cheats. They give you a quote at $ 280. They show up late, The use old/​used cardboard boxes to cover up your furniture. I mean every piece of furniture, fridge, chairs, bed frames wrapped up like cardboard mummy’s. They scratched up my fridge getting it out the door the bottom of the fridge keeps on leaking because must have broke something ramming it against to bottom of the door frame. I only had 6 pieces of large furniture. Like Fawn D., I had packed everything else. Cost me almost $ 1,000 in packing material??? Labor took 8 hrs.?? Come on!!! they had all these old torn card board boxes and half used tape rolls they left at my old place, they probably charged me for that also!!! To move in cost me $ 500 (using another company) and it cost me over 4 times as much to move out (using Stevens Moving) with the same furniture and same distance. These guys full of it!!!

This co. is horrible. I was planning on using them and referred them to a friend a few days before my move and found out how horrible they were and canceled their services for my move. They were rude, disrespectful and lazy!!! They broke blinds, scratched walls and didnt give a rats ass!

Stay as far away from this company as you can. My husband and I hired them to move our furniture from San Jose to Morgan Hill. We were quoted 260.00 and ended up paying 820.00 — not a big difference but how it occured was completely unethical. When the drivers arrived they even asked for an additional 160.00 in cash for the driver. The whole experience was horrible to say the least. I would never recommend this company. They are a scam.

I am a glass half-​full type of person. I always try to see the best in people and am more likely to give the higher rating and the higher tip.
However, this moving experience was so completely horrific that I would like to give them a 0.
Details:
–Estimate of 3 hours, $ 350, took 7 hours, cost $ 1300
–Place was completely packed when they got there, all we needed was some furniture wrapped but they still charged us ~$ 700 for packing supplies!
–They showed up without the correct tools so I had to *borrow* them from the neighbor (who commented, they are taking a long time, aren’t they!)
–They thought the furniture was too heavy so instead of picking it up they *dragged* it across the new hardwood floor, can someone say sorry about that deposit???
–They left the screws for our babies crib lying all over the floor.
–The movers hardly spoke any English, only the lead spoke fluent English. My suspicion is they were undocumented workers he hired up from Cesar Chavez.
At the new location:
–It took 20 minutes (during which time traffic was completely blocked) to park the truck on our straight, flat street. Lovely!
–When assembling the bed, it collapsed. Completely destroyed.
–They damaged a lot of other furniture as well.
–They chipped the wall.
–If the lead hadn’t felt guilty, they would’ve left everything piled in the middle of the living room. My husband eventually told me to tell them to leave because he ws worried they would destroy more stuff.
–They didn’t install the washing machine correctly so the first time we washed a load of clothes it FLOODED the utility room
The aftermath:
–I still have not been reimbursed for my costs (the move was over a month ago) despite my detailed emails and requests for claims.
–I have called and emailed many times. The only time they responded was because I threatened to contact an attorney.
If you value your time, your things, your sanity, your marriage, or your money DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY!!!
