St. Thomas the Apostle Preschool

STA Preschool continues to be a gem in the city. Both my boys attended the preschool and preK programs. I would worry anytime a teacher would leave they would never replace her with anyone better. I was wrong. The teachers are caring, dedicated and amazing! The academics are spectacular. Jessie is an excellent director. Over the last six years, STA Preschool has grown into a wonderful place. Students are prepared for K while having fun and learning in a developmentally appropriate atmosphere. My boys are excelling in elementary school and love learning. The foundation was set at STA Preschool. 1 million stars and counting!

My son is in his second year at STA preschool. It is an excellent program; play-​based but with thoughtful and creative introduction of academic concepts to help the children prepare for K, which is quite rigorous these days. I checked many preschools and without hesitation recommend this as the best I found considering all factors. The location is not busy. The physical space is open, cheerful, and clean. Security is well taken care of, and the environment is safe for the children, not overly cluttered or like a rabbit warren as some schools are. It is not over crowded, and the outdoor space is private, not a city park (part of the school yard between the preschool and the grade school). The teachers are very very good, and all show a tremendous amount of patience and caring. The curriculum is obviously well thought out, fun, and educational. The Director is easy to reach, encourages parent communication and involvement, and responsive. There is a variety of flexible schedule options. Food is nutritious, hygiene is good, and the Director has a firm policy of no potentially sick children at school. Conflicts between children are handled well, and social skills are appropriately developed. There are numerous holiday and special events throughout the year, which the children enjoy greatly. children wear a uniform (which is easy to clean!). Religious content is appropriate but not heavy handed (prayer of thanks before snack etc.). I would recommend this school as an excellent preschool experience, and step towards any elementary program.

My son is currently in the Pre-​K program with Teachers Dorothy and Amber, and was with Teachers Jessie and Denise last year in the 3-​year old program. We have found all the teachers to be wonderful and caring, each with their own gifts. My son is incredibly well prepared academically and socially for kindergarten and I give full credit to the St. Thomas program. I am sure some of the friendships he has made there will last beyond STA.
We love St. Thomas Preschool. More importantly, my son loves St. Thomas Preschool.

I am a father of three children, our oldest goes to STA preschool and we have been completely satisfied with the program, teachers, and director. The caring environment allows children the opportunity to flourish within STA’s program. My child has been prepared for the next phase of education, having been accepted to one of the more difficult Catholic elementary schools to get into in the city and we will be sending our two younger children without question.
