I had my sons baptism at ST. John of God and it was the perfect church to have a beautiful intimate service with just close friends and family. We will definitely recommend to our friends and family. Thank you!

One of the most beautiful small churches in San Francisco. The inside is very arts and crafts with beautiful stained glass and lots of wood. Great place for a wedding! I should know, I got married there 20 years ago this Halloween.

I happened to walk into SJOG the first Sunday after I moved to the city, and nearly ten years later, I’m still there (including a couple of years of commuting every week from San Jose!). This is the Catholic church at its best: an intimate, inclusive, welcoming community that’s very active in social justice issues and hospital ministry (the church was originally established to serve UCSF), and best yet from this musician’s perspective, everyone sings!

St. John of God is a special mix of a serious commitment to social justice, progressive theology and similar issues and a community that loves to have a good time. Two favorite things about St. John of God: children are truly welcome (so is everyone else, actually) and can act like children and not miniature adults. Also, it’s catholic in the best sense, not only in welcoming everybody but in a spirituality that goes from praying for the cosmos to helping someone move a bookcase.

I used to alter serve here for years. I love this church. Unpretentious, warmhearted good people from all walks of life. Its pretty liberal for a Catholic church which is always nice in my eyes. If you’re looking for a good midnight mass on x-​mas eve, this is the place. I cant believe that I’m Unilocaling a church, but I highly recommend it. Also they administer religious services to the sick at UCSF across the street, so that’s why they do not belong to a parish– this gives them a unique perspective that one will not find at most churches

st. john is a nice non-​threatening catholic church which is very welcoming of everybody. and they’re the only church that does not have a defined territory (location-​wise), so parishioners (/​visitors) come from everywhere. it’s easy to get to too– right off of the N Line. they are friendly but not overbearing, and they are family but not the clingy kind that you want to avoid. they do lots of good things, are community oriented, and have great activities that they let you know about and don’t push in your face, so if you don’t want to go/​attend/​do anything, you won’t be asked twice. the masses last up to the hour and hardly go over. i always walk out of there in a good mood!
