Robin Heuver is an independent gardener who has done work on our two residences(current and former) in San Francisco, and we give her stellar marks for garden design and maintenance. Our former condo builiding in the Castro district has a large garden attached to the property, and Robin served as the regular gardener there for about 5 years. She kept the garden in tip-top shape, which was no small task, given the approximately 150 different species of plants and trees in about a 1⁄3 acre space. From routine maintenance to replacement and development, her judgment and vision were always excellent. Based on that experience, we hired her to design and install a garden in the backyard of our new house in Bernal Heights. The backyard was basically a blank slate, and she worked in close consultation with us to set up a garden that focuses on southern hemisphere, low-water plants. The work included installation of a rock path and substantial hardscaping, which was done in conjunction with a colleague of hers, Pat Smith, whom we recommend highly for hardscaping in general(brick patio floors, raised planter beds, french drains, etc.). This was all done on a reasonable budget — somewhat above the initial estimate, but not too bad for the size of the project, and we got some lovely bonus plants as part of the deal. We’ve recommended Robin to several friends for jobs of various sizes, and they’ve reported excellent experiences with her as well. She’s very knowledgable and easy to work with, so we highly recommend her for garden work of any type.
