Santa is the BOMB! I recently moved to the city and wasn’t sure where to get my hair done. After getting my hair highlighted by the same person for over a decade, I was scared to trust someone else with my mane. My mixed hair is a bit complex when it comes to cuts and color.
Little did I know, Santa is not only a color master, but she also knows her way around Curley, kinky hair. I was really impressed by the way she handled it and by her knowledgable approach to co-​creating the perfect color for me.
Her shop is adorable and her positive energy is just wonderful. Great vibes, and this woman has SKILLZ! I’ve had the do for about a week now and the compliments are endless. It was so nice to be in such good hands with Santa. I’m pretty much telling all my friends now that if they are looking for a stylist, Sophistafunk is the way to go. Thank you Santa for being awesome and making me feel so pretty!

I have being going to Santa for more than 10 yrs! I have been such a die-​hard fan that I still come to her for my cut and color even though I’ve moved to the East Bay. I constantly get compliments from strangers on my haircut and they always ask «who does your color?» Even other hairdressers will compliment my ‘do! Not only is Santa very talented, but she is honest and will tell you if a specific hairstyle will work with your hair or not. I love that as we’ve all brought in a picture of a celebrity’s hairstyle thinking we could have the same thing and walk out being disappointed. She gives me a look all my own and I feel like a million bucks every time I leave her salon! Her haircuts always grow out perfectly (which is a huge plus), and everyone I refer to her always wants to come back. No one can seem to replicate her fabulous work, and I am a loyal fan. I just hope she doesn’t get famous and move away :) Love her!

I am a loyal Santa follower. Like the other reviewers say, she has amazing personal style & brings out the best in mine. She is so down to earth, down to business, and getting my hair cut is an hour of bliss and relaxation.
Fair warning: once you experience a Santa cut, you will be hooked. She has been cutting my hair for over a decade — and in that time my hair has gone very long to very short and everywhere in between. My cuts are always either exactly what I wanted, or 100x better than I knew I wanted. She is a true artist.

Santa is amazing. I walked in there with drab, dry, stick-​straight hair and left with luscious romantic wavy hair. I HAVE WAVY HAIR. I sort of knew this, but I’d been fighting it my whole life with hairdryers, brushes, and ponytails. No more! Santa gave me a cut that lets my waves do their thing with little to no assistance from me. I can even go to sleep with wet hair, wake up, and my hair looks good.
Not only that, but Santa is super nice and easy to spend time with. She seemed as excited about my new cut as I was. When it was done we both ran out of the salon with a pink feathered mirror to check it out in the sunlight – it was just as wavy in the sunlight as in the salon. :)
I’ve gotten a ton of compliments and am really happy with the result. I’ll definitely be back.

I have been a loyal customer of Santa’s and Sophistafunk since moving to the Bay in 2005. I was referred by fellow curly girls who said that she was the best. And she is! As a hairstylist she listens and honors what you would like while knowing what is best for your hair and style. She is a lovable person to be around. Her hats and creations are just as the name says– sophisticated and funky to wear on the streets of our beloved SF and beyond! Highly recommended.

Yes, it’s my hair but the compliments that I receive about the curls and color should all go to Santa at sophistafunk. I would not trust my head of hair with anyone else. Her skills as a colorist are unrivaled which is why I have been going to her salon for ten years. The salon is great and the conversation just adds to the entire experience.

Santa and Sophistafunk are, literally, a cut above. I have thick, curly, greying hair, which I think would probably give many hair stylists nightmares. And, in fact, most hair stylists give me nightmares. I always used to go home from the stylist and re-​trim my own hair, cutting the curls that had dried in funny positions and were sticking out. I haven’t done that in the last six years in which Santa has been cutting my hair. She always dries my hair completely, and then trims it again, to make sure no unruly curls are sticking out in the wrong direction. And, she is a master of color, darkening just a little of the grey, so that it still looks very natural.
She is not just a professional, but an artist, with a very astute aesthetic sense of what will be flattering and fashionable. Unlike some artistic and talented stylists, though, Santa is incredibly humble, and very sensitive to what I am and am not comfortable doing. I think she often makes me look relatively hip without ever pushing me to be too experimental if I don’t want to be. Perhaps best of all, her haircuts are always (a) easy to take care of and (b) have staying power. I never wake-​up in the morning with crazy curly-​haired bed-​head, and the cuts grow out in a manageable fashion, so I don’t have to rush back every few weeks for a desperation trim. She does such a good job in fact, that I only get my hair cut two or three times a year, because the haircuts grow out looking as good as they started out.
I unequivocally recommend Santa — personally and professionally — especially to those out there with unusual or challenging hair.

For 10 years now, people have been complimenting me on my haircuts and that’s how long Santa’s been cutting my hair.
This isn’t due to some strange stylist devotion, or that I’m afraid to «break up with my stylist». She cuts my hair because she does it better than anyone ever has. It always looks great, and more importantly, grows out with style. 3 months after a hair cut and it STILL looks good.
My requests are always different:
I’ve taken in photos and said «I want that.» Santa studies the photo, then tells me what will and will not work with my hair and together we come to a decision.
«Just a trim.» We engage in a conversation about what how best to work out my bangs.
«Do whatever you want.» This one is my favorite. Santa talks me through what she’s thinking and then we go for it and the results are always amazing.
To top it all off, she is kind, funny, warm, inspiring and beautiful. We’ve had amazing talks, shared hilarious stories, and words of support.
I always look forward to sitting in her comfy chair in Sophistafunk’s charming little studio and I recommend her any chance I get!

To say it plainly, Santa changed my life. For years I searched for somebody who could really listen to what i wanted and give me a hair cut that fit my style but also bring out the natural waves.
Santa did just that. She is amazing with wavy or curly hair and has a great sense of style that she applies to her haircuts. I have recommended her to friends and they’ve all loved her as well!

I have flown from NYC to SF to have Santa do my hair. I have driven from Las Vegas to Los Angeles just to see Santa (when she was doing hair in LA and SF). She is, in short, a dream. She has incredible personal style, as evidenced by her death-​defying shoes she’ll occasionally sport, or her vintage shop clothing that she finds and puts together perfectly. Her style is also reflected in her fabulous line of accessories, from clips to necklaces to hats — all one of a kind. Oh, did I forget to mention that she’s also a total knockout?
Usually all that style and talent comes with quite an attitude — but Santa is on my top-​5-​nicest-​people-​in-​the-​world-​I-​know list. She listens to your concerns about your hair (and occasionally about your life!), and never imposes her own style on you — she really listens to find out where you are in your personal style, and where you’d like to go with it (if anywhere). She always has perfect suggestions, and once you guys come up with a plan for your next hair style, she begins brimming with excitement to make your vision come to life. It’s really cute. Santa completely LOVES what she does, and that’s a huge plus, because she won’t let you walk out of the salon unsatisfied. She takes a lot of pride in her work, and it shows. She goes the extra mile to make sure she’s nailed it.
Her salon space is quaint and adorable. Her prices are ridiculously reasonable for the level of artistry and experience she brings to the table — she’s a no-​brainer, as far as I’m concerned. And I’ve been around the block with hair stylists, and have spent more money than I’d care to mention here on hair cuts and colors that were shy of perfect.
You deserve perfection. You deserve Santa!
I’d like to close with an odd statistic that every time I leave Santa I am hit on within 5 minutes of walking out her door. I’m just sayin, the girl knows what she’s doing! Or she’s sprinkling some fairy dust on me. Either way, she’s magic.
