I began designing websites in 1998, back when they were just starting to become a thing. Because I started so long ago, I learned how build a website from the ground up. I bring that know-​how to every site I build. I design in Photoshop; I hand-​code in HTML, CSS, and PHP; and I provide a full website from start to finish, helping my clients through the entire process. I truly enjoy my job because it combines creativity, logic, and problem solving. In college, I majored in illustration, and growing up, I always loved science and math. I think web design is the perfect combination of these things.

I started Smack Happy Design in 2008 because I love working on a variety of projects, and Smack Happy lets me help people and companies with their challenges. I’ve created solutions for lawyers, caterers, hair stylists, schools, artists, and many other business types.

My goal is to make sure that all of my clients have a beautiful, professional, and easy-​to-​use website. I want their visitors

I had a few tweaks for my website, and I asked Nicole at Smack Happy for help. Not only did she take care of the changes quickly and efficiently, but she also noticed a few other small usability issues along the way and handled them as well.
One of the things that’s frustrated me working with other developers is that they don’t really understand the intention of the changes. As a result, they execute on the exact letter of the request, but in a way that doesn’t fit with the rest of the site, or that breaks some other functionality. Nicole is different. She understands your overall goal, almost without even having to spell it out, and then makes sure everything works in a way that’s ideal for your site visitors.
I’d highly recommend Smack Happy to anyone.

I’d call Nicole a rock star, but she has the patience of saints and I’m not sure those two really go together. But if they do, Nicole’s got it all!!! She helped us with a very long, very tedious, very in-​depth project. She was patient, task oriented, and negotiable with us for every step of the way. We’re incredibly happy with our final website and totally recommend Nicole’s abilities to anyone that asks. And sometimes to people that don’t ask! But I digress.

I met Nicole a few years ago and randomly learned she had helped friends with their business websites. Her talent for website design was immediately evident. Shortly thereafter we launched a working relationship and recreating my business website. What a brilliant decision!
Nicole provides a great framework and is wonderful in setting client expectations for the entire process. My website wasn’t the easiest to tackle. Not only did it require a custom design, it also required the incorporation of a secondary website search engine. It was complex project and set up! Nicole made it all feel simple. She has great ideas, is a quick thinker, artistic and programmer all in one! Nicole is a gem! My site not only works correctly it also looks fantastic.

I came to Nicole with hacking issues. I kept getting google emailing me saying that it appeared that my sight had been hacked and that it would not be found in searches until the problem had been fixed. I tried to resolve the issue with my very limited tech know-​how… FAIL! So I went on google and youtube to try to get some how-​to video help to do it myself… FAIL! Then I spoke with Nicole, desperately wanting my site back to normal, and she fixed the issue in a day or two! HEAVEN SENT! Also, my website already built, by me, had some issues when i was editing the content. All of the new content would default to the standard style default color and size instead of the personalized colors and font styles I preferred. Nicole wrote some code on the back end of my site to set the defaults to that I wanted and I haven’t had an issue with it sense. I DID however, have some confusion about changing some stuff myself and when I called Nicole, she walked me through the steps I needed to take, sent me screen shots of instructions and made sure I was able to do it on m own in the future. Plus I was confused on how and when to back up my site when I had to update my plug ins. Nicole again took over and now takes care of all that for me.
She really is great at what she does. She’s super helpful in teaching someone how to do stuff on their own, she handles the stuff that I don’t want to deal with, and is great about getting things done in a speedy manner.

Even in the face of a colleague of mine who seemed like he would never be satisfied and asked for about a bajillion revisions on a piece of work I thought was already top notch, Nicole soared. She happily made each and every one, never showing even a touch of frustration, and did indeed finally satisfy someone for whom I thought might not be capable of satisfaction.

Where do I even start! Nicole has been an angel sent down from heaven! I opened my own business three years ago and I had a hire someone to set up a website for me. Over a month later, the guy had my business name and my name on a website and that was it. I was so upset and didn’t know where to start to make my own website. And that’s when I found Nicole. She took over, asked me a few questions about my business and color scheme and within a few days she had 3 or 4 samples for me to pick out of. And if I could. I would of picked them all! They were all so pretty. I constantly still get told that my website is nice.
On top of great product. Nicole is also very patient. I’m not the most computer savvy 27 year old in the Bay Area. I’ve had to ask her questions about my website and she’s been very helpful on making it easy for me to understand and for me to sign into my website and keep updating information.

Smack Happy is a joy to work with. The only designer I know who I can completely trust to: understand what I’m going for, make great initial mocks, work with my feedback and then actually build in my code base!
