We’re a classic, urban cocktail lounge and weekend nightclub offering an array of spirits, beer, wine, visual and musical entertainment.

We’re a locally-​owned San Francisco bar and lounge. We handle all of our own marketing, DJ talent, VIP table and private event booking internally to ensure you have the best experience possible. We do not regularly work with club promoters, so you can count on the fact that as a guest or event organizer, you will experience consistent, high-​quality service and never have to pay a cover charge or stand in a long line to get inside.

We’re only open Friday and Saturday nights, but available 7 days a week to host happy hour functions, networking events, charitable fundraisers or for just about any type of celebration you can imagine!

We believe in our guests’ freedom of expression, so we do not impose a dress code or prejudge guests based on their clothes or personal style.

History

Established in 2005.

Sip opened in 2005 with the vision of providing San Francisco with a classy, but unpretentious and welcoming destination. Since then, we have been the venue for scores of special events, from birthdays, bon-​voyage and engagement parties, to product launches, fundraisers and corporate events.

John Eric S.

Business Owner

John-​Eric is not just the business owner, but a visible presence at Sip, often behind the bar (incognito) meeting, serving and entertaining guests, mixing cocktails, bussing, washing glassware or greeting guests as they walk in or out the door. When the doors are closed, he develops the cocktail menu/​program and rotating drink features, books DJs, private events, table reservations, does liquor inventory and ordering, does marketing, PR and outreach, answers every phone call, returns every voicemail and email received. No job is too big or small when you’re a small business owner.

Sketchy neighborhood but it’s a cute little lounge. There’s a dj, two bars, some couches and a big screen tv. The crowd is mixed. Seems to be the place to go if you dont want to club in the city. The owner is a nice guy too.

I’ve been here a handful of times and love it! I’ve also rented it twice for parties and the process so easy.
Drinks are great! Their special cocktails are delicious!
I also went here for a comedy standup night, highly recommend their special events!

What a nice place to start, end, or just make your night at Sip. Great looking bar, seems to always attract good looking people (who knows maybe it’s the drinks). Drinks are great, menu and vibe are really cool.
Definitely a nice find and go to place.

Book your party here — this place is awesome. I was researching bars to throw a 30th birthday party for my fiancé & good friend. John Eric got back to me within minutes of reaching out about renting out the Hancock Room. He was super nice and professional throughout the whole (very easy) process of reserving the space.
The space itself was great — we had about 40 – 50 guests, our own bar & bartender, even bathrooms, and plenty of room for guests to hang out and for a dance party! :)
The music was also just right — top 40, and dance music — and on point for the vibe we were going for. Multiple guests told me how perfect the place was and how great a time they had — and most importantly the birthday boys were thrilled!

The owner John Eric is SUCH a nice and cool dude, and one of the bartenders, Xiao (forgive me if I botched the spelling) helped my boyfriend and I feel San Francisco local hospitality. We were there for only one day and the feel of that bar made us feel both at home (LA) with northern love. PLUS the DJ was spinning awesome hip hop 90s jams, and who doesn’t love 90s hip hop?!? Thank you guys!

My three girlfriends since elementary school and I all celebrated our 30th Birthdays at Sip Bar & Lounge’s Hancock Room. It was absolutely PERFECT! The party was 6−9pm, but the owner, John Eric, let us extend it all night long! So we didn’t end up leaving til after midnight. As long as you reach the bar minimum, $ 1000, it’s free to rent out the room for the evening.
The Hancock Room itself is intimate and classy, yet laid back at the same time. The ambience was exactly what we were looking for to celebrate this big milestone birthday. John Eric let us bring in our own appetizers, and decorate the room with balloons, party hats, etc. We had our own bar and bartender in The Hancock Room. She was really fast and attentive, and made some incredible drinks. Did I mention they have mezcal?! Best birthday ever– it was fabulous! Thank you to John Eric and Sip Bar & Lounge for making this a wonderful night to remember! We loved it!

I highly recommend this place for a private party, and in general it is a great, chill place to hang out! My friends and I reserved the Hancock Room for our joint birthdays, and it was perfect! I love the ambiance of the room – kind of Speak-​easy-​esque! Reserving the room was super easy, and we just had to meet a bar minimum that was very reasonable. We had a pretty large group (40+), and the area was spacious, with lots of seats and surface areas to set down drinks/​food. There was a pool table in the middle that we ended up using to put our birthday cakes and party favors/​décor. We had our own bathroom, and bar and bartender, and I never felt like I had to wait to get a drink. The drinks were really good too, and the bartender was awesome about special requests! It was so convenient!
The staff was amazing– so helpful and responsive, with all of our set-​up, décor, and allowed us to bring in our own appetizers! It was also easy to migrate back and forth from the general bar area, but we still felt like we had a private space to ourselves. SIP bar/​lounge is great, I will definitely be going back! Thank you for an amazing b-​day party!

Just wanted to give a shout out to John Eric. His customer service is EXCELLENT!
My daughter had reserved a couple of tables for her birthday guest and prior I had corresponded with John Eric about doing a bar tab as a surprise for her. He made all the arrangements via email, greeted her as she arrived and presented her with a note saying Happy Birthday from Mom & Dad with the tab information. WOW! They all had a great time, good music and terrific beverages and definitely would be going back.

Sip Bar and Lounge is THE BEST. I had my «Flirty Thirty» birthday here and I cannot say enough good things about John-​Eric and his team. I rented the main bar, and my friends could not stop raving about the ambiance, unique cocktails, and awesome music. This place is a hidden gem, and I’ve been back several times since my party. Thank you, John-​Eric for building such a unique space, and for working with me (and my friends!) to make my 30th birthday a night to remember!

Sometimes I wish I was still that fun-​seeking, «what are we doing this weekend?!» kind of girl but sadly I am now more of a «what shall I watch on Netflix tonight?». So when my girlfriend and I got invited to go to a birthday party (friend of a friend of a friend) she had to drag me along. Sadly, I made no attempt to look sexy or cute and I only threw on a comfy oversized denim shirt over leggings.
There was no cover (yay!) and no line (YAY!) when we arrived a little after 11 pm. The places was packed and there were no seats available so we made ourselves at home at a bar area against the wall. This is a chill bar without any pretentiousness and the bartender were actually making specialty cocktails instead of your typical Jack and Coke. I watched the bartender muddle some fruit in a cup before mixing up some fancy drink. I got a Moscow Mule and my eyes widened as I watch him generously pour the vodka into the glass. Now, I’m a hella lightweight so what may be a normal pour of vodka is actually a really strong drink for me. I was feeling gooooood after just one drink!
The music here is what really made me love this place. I was just complaining to my girlfriend that clubs always plays techno and house nowadays I can’t get my dance on! I miss the days of good ol fashion booty music or at least some decent hip hop and r and b from the 90s-​00s. The DJ that night was so on point with his selection of jams I swear he took them straight out of my iPod. My friends and I were jamming and dancing to ourselves and basically just having a blast. I’m not sure if this is their typical music vibe here but it’s a two thumbs up from me!

Surprisingly it was pretty empty on a Friday night. It looks like there was a reserved party but it was in the back part of it and the front end was not impacted.
Bartenders and bouncers were nice and friendly. Music was definitely on point. Great mixture of old school and current hip-​hop. I definitely would come back here the next time I am in San Francisco.

Cool venue and fun music.
Got here around 11:30 for a friend’s birthday and it was already super crowded! We had a reserved couch section which was big enough for about 12 people to sit at once. People rotate anyways.
The bar area was pretty crowded, but it’s Saturday night, what bar isn’t? Took a few friends about 15 minutes to get their drinks, but they double ordered so avoid a second wait time.
The music here was awesome, so fun, and a great mix.
This place is small though, most people were sweating heavily lol.

My cousin and I recently held our birthday party here at Sip and had such a great time! We worked with the owner, John Eric, during the planning process and he was extremely accommodating and super friendly. We reserved the Hancock Room for our party and it was the perfect size for our guest count — about 50 guests. There is a bar minimum for reserving the room, but if you have big drinkers like we did, you will not have a problem meeting the minimum at all!
Our bartender, Guillermo, was very knowledgeable about different types of drinks, gave us great recommendations and made sure me and the other birthday girl were taken care of the entire night.
Everyone really enjoyed the décor, the drinks and of course the company! You can also get food catered here (we got our food catered from Thomas John Events) and it’s a really easy load-​in/​load-​out.
As other Unilocalers have mentioned, the no cover and no dress code is pretty amazing. We will definitely be back here for another night out!

I’ve loved Sip since I came in for the first time a few years ago. It’s a breath of fresh air, away from the clubs just a couple blocks down on Broadway, which we used to frequent when we were freshly 21+.
No line, NO COVER, NO DRESS CODE. The bouncers are cool, bartenders are super friendly, and for the ladies. there are plenty of places to sit and rest your feet haha. Sip also has a menu of their signature cocktails for you to choose from. They’ll cater to the crowd, so if there’s only 10 people in the room, they won’t blast the music. I was just there for a birthday on Black Friday and they played the perfect mix of old school R&B, hip hop, and house to keep the party going. Our group had the tables in the front room reserved and they let the party bring in balloons, cupcakes, flowers, and candy for the celebrant and guests, which was really nice.
Also.who wouldn’t love a place with paintings of the greats across the wall. from Bruce Lee to Jean Claude Van Damme to Chuck Norris. Amazing.

I came here this past Saturday for a friends birthday. They had reserved the Hancock room the whole night. It was pretty cool because we had one whole room to ourselves and there were a bunch of super comfy seats so we could chill when we got tired of dancing. Having our own bartender was another plus so we didn’t have to wait forever for a drink. Oh and another SUPER plus is that in the reserved room, we also had our own restrooms.
The place itself is rather small (two rooms). When you walk in they have a movie projected on the wall, which I thought was different and cool. This place is definitely for the older crowd because they were playing a lot of music from the 90’s, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
I loved how the décor was so American and had a fancy shmancy feel, made me want to drink wine and discuss politics. Hah!
