Shimo

I was disappointed to find out that Shimo closed down, but only because I had just found out about it in the weeks before it closed down. I only got to go once but it was highly recommended by a friend who is very fond of the raw fish, and had been coming here for a very long time.
My experience there was very good. I thought the fish tasted and looked incredibly fresh. I split a large sashimi platter and various rolls both specialty and basic. The wait staff and sushi chef were all very kind and accommodating.
I feel bad for the many loyal patrons over the years who have now lost their sushi spot.

Being a Japanese-​owned Japanese restaurant, I expected it to be much better.
Dare I say it?
Kamameshi is better, and less pricey.
Wifey and I came over here and expected to have excellent sushi based on their rating. We ordered hella rolls (literally) from Rainbow, California, Hamachi, Tuna and Cherry Blossom. We also had a side of Ame Ebi Shrimp Head Miso Soup and the Tamago for desserts.
Where to start?
Although the server we had was nice and pleasant, it was quite slow and inconsistent. And everything we had was underwhelming to say the least. The Miso Soup was just meh and the Ama Ebi Shrimp Head didn’t add anything at all save for fancy decoration. I expected more flavor, but it was just so so.
And all the rolls we had (including the Cherry Blossom) were forgettable and nothing stood out. It’s as if we were eating at an All-​You-​Can-​Eat joint in Reno, which we’ve had better sushi in Reno, mind you.
If I have to give them a positive is that the Tamago had just the right amount of sweetness and nice fluffy texture one would expect.
But all in all, we left scratching our heads with the lack of flavor and umami goodness one would expect from a Japanese restaurant.
Disappointing to say the least.

Just got home and had a great dinner! Cheap! Great sushi!
I ordered Kamakazi spicy and had a kick to it! I also ordered Dynamite roll which was so so and very fresh tasty oysters!
Will go back for sure!
