Specialties
SHARED is the most unique coworking space in San Francisco, located in the heart of SoMa. Think of it as Tech Shop meets coworking.
SHARED has all the office amenities of a traditional coworking space and added to a maker space. It has office space, fabrication space, a shared work shop with tools and equipment, meeting rooms, kitchen, and classes, and events.
SHARED is a space for creative people to work and collaborate together. It is based in the belief that together we can create greater things than we could individually or in isolation.
History
Established in 2013.
Founder, Marilyn Yu, is a creative person who enjoys collaborating with others. Due to the shortage of space in San Francisco, creativity and collaboration can often be a struggle. However Yu believes that a sustainable space for creative people can exist in San Francisco and this is what has motivated her to build SHARED.
The idea for SHARED was originally hatched in 2010. It took two plus years to assemble the team and build the space that is now SHARED. Yu was excited to open SHARED to the public in March 2013.
We define «creative» as anyone who builds, designs, or invents something (not limited to tangible things). Some of our current members: writers, editor, publisher, data-visualization company, documentary film-maker, UI tech entrepreneur, a computer programmer, a web-platform for community organizing, a scholarship data-base and tools, proto-type builder, hardware start-up, a sports-drink start-up, painters, photographers, mixed-media artist.
Meet the Business Owner
Marilyn Y.
Business Owner
Marilyn Yu is an award-winning clothing designer, artist, and author based in San Francisco. With a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley, Yu is constantly trying to merge her various interests in the work she does.
After a seven year break, Yu has decided to start making clothes again. This time she is combining her new love of motorcycles with her love of fashion. She is offering custom scooter/motorcycle jackets for women. Now there is no need to sacrifice style for safety — you can have both!
Yu’s other works include creating the legend of Eva, a journey of introspection, self-determination, and compassion. There are two books that tell Eva’s story: «Relations that Suck: The Story of Eva and Dries», a photo book for adults and «La Femme Fatale», a story and a tool in the format of deck of cards.
Additionally Yu teaches an all-levels sewing classes at SHARED weekly.
