Wow, I totally disagree. I attended SF State through an innovation collaboration with Delancey Street Foundation that afforded 7 of us an opportunity to get a BA in 2004. Granted, we were pretty catered to and probably get the ‘run of the mill’ offerings that took place on campus, but it seemed to me that the Urban Studies program was pretty much what you make of it. It did seem the campus students are primarily into planning and missing the social ramifications, but our advisor (Raquel Rivera-​Pinderhughes) was great and made sure we had exposure to all facets of the urban scene from transportation and housing to sustainable development.

The urban studies department at SFSU, needs new blood. All of the faculty lacks any real drive or enthusiasm in teaching the courses here. And thats all the way from the dean, the chair, down to the professors. They all seem to be Berkleyites that revel in their respective past laurels; whatever they may be. They perceive themselves as Eastbay cool; yeah right. This department seems to be there only for the paychecks, and nothing more. Wakeup guys.
