I am taking my second class here and did a weekend workshop in July!!! Fascinating and fun, love it here!!!

I have become increasingly fascinated with the world of ceramics — thanks to a friend who is incredibly gifted and works with both clay and glazes in a ceramic studio in Santa Cruz.
When I stumbled upon sflclayworks at the recent Urban Air Market — I was immediately drawn to a hip sea blue bulbous water flask encased in a loose hanging brown leather pouch.
The woman staffing the booth — Nina was extremely personable and disclosed that she was the one who had crafted the magical ceramic creation.
The price was reasonable and I was interested in seeking out a way to drink more water during the day. Despite owning an absurd amount of plastic water bottles — I wanted something that I actually wanted to carry with me. Gently stroking the leather tassels on the brown leather pouch — I went for it.
Nina quickly handed me a card and encouraged me to learn more about sfclayworks.
Sfclayworks is an artist started space. All of the artists had previously been part of the former SF Art Space — The Clay Studio. Together these artists manifested a unique communal art space at sfclayworks, which not only provides a working venue for ceramic artists, but which also acts as a classroom for those interested in learning more about the world of ceramics. Go down to the SF Clayworks to get creative and enjoy all that the ancient craft of ceramics has to offer. Joyce is amazingly friendly, talented and has lots to teach people at all skill levels. There are classes for all skill levels and also studio space for the folks that can’t get enough.
I’ve done some ceramics at other studios and this is by far my favorite place. In addition to the great instructor the people in my are a really fun eclectic mix of supportive folks that make the classes a joy. The infrastructure provided by the classes is really amazing, they do the hard work of firing the kiln and creating the glazes so I can just show up and do the fun part of making cool things. The classes are organized around an 8 week schedule and are really reasonably priced.
Can’t say enough about Joyce and the other instructors. She is amazingly humble and fun for someone so talented and I learn something new every time she does a demo. With all the different techniques like hand building, carving into clay, slips and glazes the only limit is your creativity.

This is an incredibly lovely, supportive, and laid back studio. I am taking my second intermediate class here and our teacher is great, she can (and will) show you how to anything with clay. Its a great space for those who already know how to throw, but even more so for beginners. If you want to learn how to throw on the wheel (and trust me you do!!) — this is your chance — classes are really small and taught by very skilled and patient experienced artists.

I took a class at this recently-​opened ceramics studio, and loved it. The instructor, Joyce, is really friendly and does a great job of teaching new techniques (with demonstrations), explaining things clearly, and answering questions. She even takes requests from the class about what to demonstrate.
The classes are fairly inexpensive ($ 250 for an eight week class, including access to the studio outside of class time), and the studio space is really nice.
We were given an open-​ended project to work on over the course of the eight weeks, but were also free to make whatever other pieces we wanted. I plan to keep going back to this studio!
