SFM brings cocktails to the people.

We hold killer classes, host unforgettable parties (including corporate team-​builders), cater absurdly delicious beverages for events, and consult around the globe on all things bar-​related.

We’ve spent the last few years watching cocktails rapidly evolve and seeing our friends and colleagues open up to the resurgent cocktail movement. We’re now entering a new paradigm in how we drink (and think about drinking), and SFM is dedicated to helping it grow. Until now, there’s been a missing piece connecting how cocktails are perceived, events are executed, and how bartending is learned. SFM is dedicated to defining innovative events and executing them in awesome new ways.

History

Established in 2007.

The beverage industry is riddled with mediocrity. In a sea of vodka-​sodas, we see infused liquors, homemade bitters, and unforgettable cocktail creations.

We not only started out wanting to make the best cocktails in history, but we wanted to make the modern cocktail movement accessible to all people. We started teaching classes to bring our knowledge to everyone. At this time, we hold regular classes, produce events, and consult on any and every aspect of the cocktail world that our clients might have questions on.

My wife, myself and several friends all attended an SF Mixology event on 1÷30÷16. We went to the «Introduction to Mixology» Class that is ~2 hours long. Our instructor Shaun, and his assistant Rico were both really friendly and had great personalities. The class itself was, of course, an intro to mixology, so it started off talking about the history of cocktails and how they have evolved over time. It was a story well told by Shaun, his knowledge and enthusiasm really shined though. You can tell when someone really loves what they are showing you, and that came through in this case.
The actual structure of the class consisted of a couple of drink walkthroughs where we started with a base ingredient (alcohol), and then we added other substances to the drink and experienced the evolution of the flavor as it was being built. My friends and I were all amazed by how the changes came about and we even discussed it over dinner afterwards. After the drink walkthroughs, there is a quick tutorial on pouring and other bar etiquette, and then everybody gets a chance behind the bar to make a drink. I ended up making a Sazerac, which was pretty tasty. Other members of my group made a Mojito, Kamikaze, Manhattan, and old fashioned.
On the whole it was an amazing class and I can only imagine a private event would be amazing. We liked it so much we bought tickets to the next level of the class. And nothing says enjoyment like a commitment to come back.

Bought groupon for myself and 5 of my friends yo try out the Mixology class. We had a ball. Despite the fact that out group was a little rowdy and talkative, the instructor didnt miss a beat and was very informative and funny. We are even trying to make all the drinks at home now. Old fashioned for everyone. Would definitely recommend for the drink enthusiasts and those just looking to have a fun afternoon.

I work with Facebook and recently threw an event for 200 ppl with Mixology at Infusion Lounge. Working with Shawna and his team was amazing. From start to finish they made sure that everything was exactly how I wanted to be. The team of bartenders are professional, make amazing drinks, and just so extremely friendly! My team had an amazing night of blowing fire, learning out to do the perfect mojito, and getting a little education on drinks. I would love to have another reason to work with them in the future! I can’t thank them enough for the amazing job they did!

Great class, learned a lot, but kind of super pricey considering how much you pay for it.
I came here for a team bonding event and our class was held at The Playground which was the perfect size for our group. I forgot our instructors name, but he was really animated and super cheesy which I sometimes liked, but I felt that he was really rude to his assistants.
During the class, they teach you about the different types of liquor, the difference of each drink when you add different things to it what to shake and what to stir and then you get to go behind the bar and make your own drink, which you get to drink, but the class has a time limit so there wasn’t a lot of time to enjoy the drink you make and hang out.
Overall, it was fun and I know a lot more about mixing drinks, but I think it was definitely on the pricier side.

Took the Essential Mixology class & intro class. Shawn was the instructor and clearly demonstrated in-​depth knowledge of every nook and cranny we discussed. The classes themselves are both fun, lots of tasting (so eat plenty beforehand and maybe during a break). I left both classes feeling like I learned several things that will stick with me for life. Very educational, fun, and useful! Would definitely take another class.

Had a great time taking the Intro Mixology class by Team SFmixology. Shawn was my main instructor. Got exactly what I was looking for. He was very informative and entertaining. We all had a blast. It was also interesting to see the cocktail nuances, shake or stir — interesting liquor history, in-​depth understanding of the different types of spirits and so forth. Recommended if you’re getting serious about your cocktails. This could be fun for a group activity too. I can totally see myself taking these types of classes with my girlfriends. wink emoticon

I just finished setting up an event for one of my companies teams on SUCH SHORT NOTICE, and SF Mixology was extremely patient and helped me get this set up ON (I REPEAT) SHORT NOTICE.
That is a huge deal for me as a Project Coordinator. Plans are always changing, and finding companies that can help adjust to those last minute changes are very rare in my opinion. The staff was extremely friendly, quick to respond, and kept me updated on the process to help me calm down (coordinating is tough as there a re a lot of things you just can’t control).
While I have yet to actually have the event, there are a lot of things that add to a companies reputation. Customer service being one of them. 5 stars for the fabulous Adrienne. I am so looking for to this event and future events. Thank you so much!

We took the class on Saturday in SJ. It was a great afternoon and lots of fun. We learned some history and basics. We each made our own special drink. Shawn was a great instructor and made the class fun and interesting. Highly recommend!!!

I just took a introduction to Mixology class with Shawn. It was an hour of history and introduction to cocktail and its history. Then everyone had an opportunity to make cocktails of his or her interest. Shawn was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We did not have much knowledge in spiritual drinks, but we think we can make really good cocktails at home. I definitely recommend the class for couples date night, team building and/​or anyone who wants to have fun! You won’t regret that you took the class!

I took the Intro to Mixology class with Shawn. He’s a fantastic teacher — it’s a mix between a class and a performance. The open bar style lets you get your feet wet (literally, we weren’t that neat our first times shaking and pouring…), but leaves you wanting more! I signed up for the Essential Mixology class immediately and I’m looking forward to learning more soon.

We had a team building event with Shawn this past week and it was a blast!
Despite being based in SF, they were able to accommodate our event in San Jose at the Fahrenheit Lounge.
The afternoon started with a great theoretical session that included a bit of history behind cocktails and learning about proper cocktail balance and ratios. One of the most eye opening parts was when Shawn mixed an old fashioned for us — but had us taste the drink as he built up the balance by adding the different components.
Afterwards, we had our shot behind the bar where Shawn taught us how to make a drink of our choice. The final part was a drink mixing challenge — I don’t think our drinks were the best-​tasting, but it was a lot of fun getting creative with the teammates.
If you’re looking for something unique to do with your team and learn something new, I’d definitely recommend this!

I was a fun class. It was also very interesting to see the cocktails nuances. With little opportunities to understand how taste and flavor changes with mix, this class helps to witness the changes. And very little can tremendously change your perception.
It was a tasteful and fun introduction to different cocktails recipes. I also left with a little booklet of recipes that I can’t wait to try at home.

We just had our company holiday party with SF Mixology at Infusion Lounge, and everyone LOVED it!
We started the evening with a lesson on tastes and ratios, learned how to make some classics, and then had a drink making contest. Everyone had a blast and made surprisingly good drinks!

The Creative team at our company — about 25 people — was treated to a mixology class with Shawn and his crew at the Infusion Lounge. A stirring experience! It helped to be there with a pack of highly-​creative people ready to party, but full props to Shawn and the SF Mixology crew for keeping, it fun, funny, interesting and informative — or should I say bitter, sweet, balanced, and full of character.
I’ve learned a lot of things under the influence of alcohol — some best forgotten — but this is the first time I’ve ever I’ve gotten into the deep end of influencing alcohol. No idea how much my company spent on this creative training, but it was totally worth it.
Definitely plan for a designated driver after this event. No one walks a straight line after this one.

I’ve grown close with Shawn and the SF Mixology team, first as a former student, and now also as their in-​house videographer. That being said… I’ve seen (and filmed!) several team building events and the resulting footage is consistently engaging, full of life, and often hilarious. What I capture speaks for itself, so it’s easy to edit. People LOVE his team building events… and it’s always fun to see the corporate world let loose in an upbeat environment that fosters actual group team building. It’s brilliant, really!
If you’re looking to kickstart your path as a craft cocktail bartender, upgrade your existing skills, or just have a damn good time… these workshops will not let you down.

We took a Saturday afternoon intro class at Infusion Lounge with a Groupon, and Shawn was awesome. We actually learned a lot about the nuances between different types of cocktails, we learned how to balance out layers of flavor with things like bitters, citrus, simple syrup, and the guy knows his mixology history. He has a great sense of humor and moves fast.
We had 3 rounds of «tastings» of drinks he made, and then everyone can get behind the counter to make your own drink. I thought it would just be a bunch of people getting drunk in the afternoon, but I actually learned a lot, and we even signed up for another longer class for our group (you can try to negotiate group discounts, and return customers get special prices, too).
It was a great group activity!

I took two classes with SF Mixology (Intro and essential) and classes were incredible. Shawn and his team provided really quality information which are essential if we want to work in that business.
Class was beyond my expectations — we saw and did much much more than just pouring drinks — behind that is a whole story of knowledge, skill and art!
