Have always wondered about waxing… I’m not a super hairy guy but things can definitely get out of control after a while and I’m really bad with trimmers, really, really bad, like bloody bad, and I’m not English either. So, after seeing so many 5 star reviews I made an appointment with Gil @sf manscaping. I got lucky and he had an opening in only 4 days. I was a tad nervous, for many reasons. I wanted to leave with the same amount of blood, scrotum skin, and dignity that I entered with. Thanks to Gil I left with all of that and actually left feeling quite a bit better about myself. It didn’t hurt nearly as much as I expected… I have a few tattoos and it’s not really even on the same scale, I was pleasantly surprised by that because I’m not really into pain. It’s more of a brief twinge and to not know when it’s happening is easier than watching imo… Gil quickly soothes the pissed off skin and also explains his every move so you really feel involved and aware of what’s going on. He doesn’t rush but also wastes no time. I used to work in landscaping and it’s also true for manscaping; when you cut the bush the tree definitely looks taller! Thanks Gill, I’ll be back!

Being my first time everr, I was pretty nervous going in. Gil makes sure to patiently explain what to expect. First & foremost Gil is a great guy! His waxing services are outstanding as he talks you through everything and is very gentle. I hate having my back waxed but when it needs done Gil is the man. He’s a professional’s professional. Before I knew Gil and was going to someone else several years ago, my back always broke out in a horrible rash after every waxing. I just thought that was how it was «supposed to go.» Gil informed me differently and that is not the case. My back has never broken out after I’ve had my waxing with Gil at SF ManScaping. I’m about to see Gil again soon and I actually look forward to going verses dreading the back breakouts and the pain that’s associated with the use of inferior soft waxes used by other salons. Gil’s SF ManScaping is a 5 star service rating all the way.

Gil is a star of waxing, very skilled. He uses techniques to make the experience painless and fun. I love that he uses two types of wax soft and hard wax. He is super friendly and makes the process go naturally without any awkwardness. If you have never tried waxing I highly recommend you book now, my body feels smooth and fresh and I’m glad I gave it a try and I’m def a regular customer from now on!

After moving back to SF recently I was looking for a new waxer (because I will be semi-​naked in public for a show in two days, not that you really care why). I’ve been to places in NYC and Portland, and Gil was by far the best esthetician I’ve been to for waxing services.
It was the least painful waxing experience I’ve ever had. I barely felt anything, so I was a little skeptical if he was actually doing a thorough waxing; but sure enough my back, neck, and shoulders were super smooth, and there was almost no redness whatsoever, another first.
He took the time to explain the difference between hard and soft wax and why he used one or the other on a particular area. He also talked to me about after-​care exfoliation, which no one had ever done before.
For the best possible service his prices were lower than the other places I considered, which made the appointment that much more worthwhile for the slight journey I had to take to his studio. The space is on the second floor of a building solely dedicated to hair, cosmetologists, and estheticians. It’s a really nice area of the building, and Gil’s studio was very clean and organized (which is something that becomes important after you’ve seen things like overflowing trash cans of waxing strips with chunks of someone else’s hair covering them or foreign objects floating in the wax pot at other places I’ve been to).
It’s kind of awkward being exposed in front of a stranger who is going to be removing hair from your body, but the conversation during the procedure flowed easily and Gil is a really nice guy. I will definitely go back to him next time I will be unclothed in public, or if I ever get a date.

A couple of Fridays ago, I had an appointment to swing in and see Gil to get my legs and butt waxed. The lead up to the appointment consisted of me contacting him via email, and him responding with a number of questions relating to my experiences with waxing thus-​far. The depth of his responses and the speed with which he responded got me interested straight-​away!
The day of the session, I meandered over to his place, a nice little collection of smaller offices for various grooming needs. After a brief tour, I made my way to Gil’s office in the area, and started the session. We had a conversation regarding what he intended to do, work-​wise, asked me if I had any questions, and off we went.
Overall, it took about two hours, which was shorter than I and my friend expected, and he was unnecessarily apologetic for how long it took. I was happy to just chill, chat and relax for a couple of hours, frankly! It was a nice break in the day.
The hair is only now starting to return after about two weeks, and it’s very fine, as expected, indicating really, really minimal breakage at all! I’m totally stoked, and will be coming back to him for all my needs for the foreseeable future!

I came to Gil about 3 weeks ago for my first wax in quite a while. I got a full back wax, neck and shoulders, butt, booty and perineum. Gil is great and very knowledgable of how to treat sensitive areas on different skin types. I have sensitive skin and Gil provided me with a treatment to use post wax and followed up with me to make sure my skin reacted well.
Gil did a fabulous job of providing a comfortable and clean environment. If you are looking for a place to get waxed look no further. Gil is your guy.

Let’s be honest. When it comes to the price of beauty, there are really only three big variables:
1. Is this going to hurt like a mofo?
2. Is this going to be embarrassing?
3. Is this going to be expensive?
The answer to these questions, is simply, yes. Absolutely. Painful*, embarrassing**, and expensive***. Review over.
* Gil does a great job at minimizing how painful the process is. He reminds me to take an aspirin or ibuprofen beforehand to take the edge off, ensures I’m properly hydrated, and continues to check-​in regarding his technique to make certain that my discomfort is minimal.
** Gil does a fantastic job at minimizing the embarrassment factor. Let’s face it, you don’t come to a place like this because you want a classy gentleman’s shave and a haircut, sitting in your Armani suit. You come here because you have back hair that makes people lobby that the census should be inclusive with a «wookie» category in 2013. You come here because somebody will be looking at your naughty parts and they want them to resemble an adult film star and not a neglected piece of shrubbery. So face the inevitable… if you want a part that doesn’t see the light of day much to be professionally groomed, you’re going to, at some point, have to show that part brazenly so that the aesthetician can do his job. Pull of your big-​boy pants and get into the downward dog. Ain’t nothing he hasn’t seen before.
*** Gil minimizes his overhead, charges very reasonably, and yet gives you professional grade service. You could have it done cheaper, but you may limp home before calling a dermatologist to get a skin graft replaced when some paraprofessional who’s taken a 12 hour course takes three layers of epidermis off of your taint along with your short and curlies. Is this really a gamble you’re willing to take to save another $ 10? Skip the morning latte for two days and keep your undercarriage intact, priorities people, priorities.
Okay, now I’m done. Gil is awesome. Okay, now I’m really done.
