Self Edge

Brought in one pair for a repair on the 6^th of April. They told me it takes up to 7 weeks, I thought that was kind of crazy and was about to leave, but then the guy inside made sure to tell me, that that is the worst case, and that they usually don’t take that much.
I believed him.
So I decided to pay 60 bucks for a 4 area repair .
Fast forward 53 days (7 weeks and 4 days). Nothing.
Decided to call them, they were trying to look me up in their system, apparently they couldn’t find my phone number, just my last name. And then the guy told me that it will take them one to two more weeks. I am wondering if they didn’t even start fixing because they lost my phone number or something
I told them it is very unprofessional to treat people that way, the guy said we will see what we can do.
Will never again go to this place, and will advocate everyone I know to skip it.

I’ve been here quite a few times to hem my jeans only. So I can’t speak on their repair services. They offer to ship your jeans back at an additional fee, which is worth it if you are driving from afar or are just lazy. Self Edge is the only place you can actually try on brands like Flat Head and Iron Heart before buying. I’ve stopped by a few times just to try on things so if I want to buy it online in the future there won’t be any doubts in my mind if it fits or not. The guys that work here are knowledgeable in this lifestyle. But there’s no point in explaining because chances are, you know what Self Edge is and their footprint in this community!

Good selection however, took 13 weeks to repair jeans. I called 3x over a 6 week period asking when the jeans were gonna be done. Got the same response that it’s gonna be one more week each time.

make sure to inquire about different sizing options because there is stock which is not on sales floor which is on website.
this is a boutique: on Sunday there is one employee so when foot traffic is ‘heavy’ ie. more than three people make sure that you do not feel ignored in asking about different options. the goods purchased here are for a lifetime, and it is thus imperative that you make the perfect fit and fabric connection.

High End + Niche Goods, usually equals pretentious employees and unhelpful service, unfortunately. This couldn’t be further from the trust @ Self Edge. In fact, all of the stores share amazing customer service and knowledge. Hands down the most helpful staff of amy establishment I have visited in my 13+ years in LA.
To the staff, thank you for your help through a #%*^&$ situation. You all handled it remarkably.

Eugene was really helpful. He greeted us right away and answered all of our questions without a problem. Although it did get busy, and it was only him working, he kept it together and was able to help and greet everyone with no problem.
He was able to help me find my first pair of denim with ease. He was very informative and detailed when answering my questions also. Very nice guy in a very nice store. I left with a pair of 3sixteen 77BSP jeans. It was the skinniest pair they had for women’s. I’m very happy with my choice.
Although my boyfriend didn’t leave with anything, Eugene was still very helpful with him. My boyfriend tried on 5 pairs of jeans and I didn’t see any annoyance, if there was any, in Eugene’s customer service. He was either really cool about it or really good at hiding it… Haha.

This review is only relevant to my repair experience. While the customer service is little to be desired, I was extremely impressed with the darning on the crotch and back pocket of my APCs. The new cloth seamlessly matched the rest of the jean and what impressed me the most was how much life was breathed into this pair. The darning process left me with extra room in the seat of the pant and made them actually more comfortable than before the repair. The long turn around time for the repair is regrettable but for the quality of work, I am willing to give them a pass.

This review is based off of my experience there every time I’ve gone with my brother.
It’s a small shop but I absolutely love the atmosphere.
This is a HIGHEST-​end store for jeans/​denim I have gone to.
They sell the HIGHEST quality jeans/​denim, I am attesting this because my brother is all about quality & these jeans fetch for a hefty 300 – 400 dollar price tag.
They sell other clothing items but it seems their main focus is jeans/​denim.
They have framed jeans that have been worn with stats accompanied, how many times worn, date bought, etc.
They have two dressing rooms & get this, their curtain for their dressing rooms are made of denim. Nice touch!
My brother went in here to get his jeans repaired as he always does. They know him at this store & at the OR store as well.
Repair is 50 & they will mail it to you when they get it done.
The staff is always friendly & knowledgeable! Kudos guys for running a great place :)

I had read that this store guarantees their products, but I found out in hindsight that it only applies to their jeans. In my case, it didn’t apply to the $ 200 shirt I bought there that developed a hole in the elbow. The guy I talked to on the phone about this seemed perturbed that I even called, and offered no suggestions on what I should do about it. I ended up having elbow patches put on, but can now just wear that shirt when dressing down. I won’t be coming back.

I came in asking for a straight fit jean and instead they sold me something that is way slim/​skinny although they told me these would be the best for me. After an initial hot water soak per their directions, the jeans are so tight and rigid still after like 6 months of occasional wearings that I nearly go into convulsions every time I try to actually wear them. I seriously feel like my ability to have kids may be being affected.
I can’t even bend down to tie my shoes and the waist is literally so tight it hurts! I was told these would stretch to end up fitting me really well, but no signs of that.
I really think they fitted me totally incorrectly. The guy seemed more into fitting me into something that made me what he thought looked hipster rather than something that actually fits well.

The only place in America to get most of this stuff. What more could you want?

Pretty nice boutique. You can find certain precious Japanese made jeans and accessories here. The store is small and hard to find a parking site nearby. But the guys in Self Edge are excellent! They really know about jeans!

Had 3 pairs of jeans that all needed some heavy repair for what they call «crotch blowout» (no better term for this?). After having gotten several prior pairs repaired at local dry cleaner/​reparations places I decided I’d try going to a place that offered more specialized services specifically for denim. Searched on Unilocal for «denim repair» and lo and behold, found myself at Self Edge.
I’ll admit, while the 40 dollar per jean price tag wasn’t crazy to me, I was pretty shocked at the 4 week turnaround time. A month seemed rather ridiculous to me, but when I got my jeans back I was very, very impressed with the quality. The stitching was clearly done by someone with great skill and attention to detail. Unlike previous «patch jobs» this time actual denim was sewn back into the jeans themselves through this «darning» process. Whatever it is, I’m a fan. The jeans look fantastic!
If you have the patience to wait up to 5 weeks for your stuff, I highly recommend. Prob the last time you’ll need to get them fixed!

I like the idea of what this business is pushing product-​wise. But just got off the phone asking a few questions regarding jean sizing. Got attitude like dude was bothered that I called. A little condescending too. I get the whole SF boutique thing, but that kind of action just isn’t cool. I see that others have had great experiences, so maybe dude just had a crappy morning or maybe is a Seahawks fan or experienced some other tragedy. Either way, I’m hanging back for now.

Came here for hemming and chain stitching on a pair of PBJ’s that I bought online. Great service in the sense that when I came in and stated I just wanted them hemmed and wasn’t looking to purchase anything else; they did not try to sell me on anything extra.
Also great to know that when they chop some inches off to hem, that they’ll won’t just throw away the excess material; they’ll stuff it in the back pocket for you in case you want to use it for anything else!
Will visit here again when I’m looking for my next pair of denim.

Just stopped by to purchase a pair of 3sixteens. Dude out front helped me with some jeans to match the fit I was looking for. Very knowledgeable and helpful.

At this point I’ve spent a LOT of money here, now owning a pair of Strike Gold’s, Imperial’s, and Iron Heart’s from Self Edge. Don’t come unless you’re a denim enthusiast willing to pay a high price for high quality.
You can definitely purchase online, but buying in store is great because you’ll get measured for a hemming. They’ll also ship you your jeans after hemming or repairs for an extra cost, but it’s worth it if you have to travel into the Mission from afar.

Been coming here years now for my denim. Just got my jeans back today from repair and they look great. Took about a month with shipping but it was well worth it. My Imperials had a big tear on one of the pockets and a big crotch blowout. Looks like it never even happened. The stitching from the repairs match with my fades on the denim just like what they said on their website. Have to thank Young for staying back at the shop late and waiting for me to drive up from San Jose. The guys there were always welcoming and answered every question I had. Great place with good customer service.

I wouldn’t go anywhere else for denim, the guys here know their stuff! Great knowledge and customer service.
Word of advice when shopping here is to take your time and don’t be shy to ask the employees about the jeans they know everything there is to know about each brand.

If you are looking for the absolute best pairs of jeans on the market then you have to stop by Self Edge. The staff are so well informed and can really hep pick out several pairs that are going to be right for your shape.
I also ride motorcycles, so I like to get a really thick, quality denim, in case I need them to hold up against asphalt… I have to say I was very impressed with their selection. They also do all their tailoring in-​house so you know it’s going to be a quality hem.

A great boutique, with helpful staff, and amazing jeans. Although it should be noted that amazing jeans also come with an amazing price tag.
I’ve been to this little shop twice and both of my experiences have been pleasant. The staff members are well-​informed on their products and won’t hesitate to answer any questions you may have.
The first time I was here, I had a pair of my jeans hemmed. I’m always anxious when bringing my jeans in to a tailor since I never know how they’ll be returned. Surprisingly, when I came to pick the jeans up, they were perfect.
My second time here, I was planning on picking up a pair of jeans. The staff was very helpful and recommended a few pairs to me. I ended up picking up a pair of Imperials. Just got them back today after they were hemmed. Perfect fit as always!
