Segway SF Bay

What an awesome experience! I would highly recommend this to families looking to do something their teens won’t complain about. We signed up for an hour and a half which was way too short. We called the office while we were out and about to let them know we’d be out longer. No problem! They just charged us the difference upon return.
Our kids are 12 and 16 and it was a piece of cake for them and their parents. Owner is patient, easy to talk to, calm and accommodating. Don’t give it a second thought! Your whole family will be thanking you for your most awesome idea for a family day in the city!

I visited these guys again (they have apparently moved from the south side of the park to the north side) on 17 April and they were just as amazing the second time around – brought my maid of honor and my fiancé with me and we had a fabulous time!

Charlie and his staff are TOPS. The most patient folks I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Our gang ranged from a 12 year old to a «senior» who speaks English as a second language. They got us all up and running on seqways and made our trip to San Francisco simply the best part of our vacation! Highly recommended!

Turns out Segways are a lot of fun in a group. Segway SF Bay is conveniently located close to the Golden Gate Park, the Sutro Baths, Ocean Beach, etc. So plenty of things to see while riding. The prices are good, and the owner is very friendly. We rented our Segways for an hour and a half, and that was enough to visit this part of SF. On a Thursday afternoon, the rental place was rather empty, so we did not have to wait and we got helped immediately.
The owner explained how Segways work (surprisingly easy), and gave us some safety instructions. Overall, renting Segways proved to be a very good experience and I’ll do it again!

We had a company outing and rented 15 segways. We had some basic training inside and then outside. Having someone to teach us definitely helped everyone feel safe. They had gloves, ponchos and helmets.
We spent 2 ½ hours riding around. I will definitely come back.

By far the most exciting thing we did on our vacation in San Francisco. We had originally went to the other people in the park to rent but they didn’t allow my 15 year old to ride because she was under 100lbs. So we googled and found this place and we were AWSOME.

Visited last weekend and had a blast riding a Segway!
I wanted to do a Segway tour, but tours were fully booked. As a result, we found this place, where we got to rent out Segways and explore on our own. Turned out to be a great idea!
This place is close to Golden Gate Park, which is where we wanted to do the sightseeing. The owner was quite chill and flexible. We called the day before to reserve 3 Segways. It was easy & no deposit was required. We also only had an approximate time we would arrive and not an exact time, and they were ok with that, which was cool.
We ended up renting for 1.5 hours ($ 45 — no tax if you pay with cash). They give you a short lesson (about 10 – 15 mins) so that you know how the Segway works and get to practice a bit. They’ve also got helmets and gloves you can wear. There’s a map in the Segway pockets which is helpful as well.
The owner and staff were very nice. They outlined several routes we could take. We ended up going through the west end of Golden Gate park and then to Land’s End. I highly recommended riding to Land’s End. You ride pass the beach and go uphill without breaking a sweat ;) Great views, and if you go to the lookout you should be able to see the Golden Gate bridge as well (we missed this — next time!). Would rent it out for longer as well!

We had the most fun as a family on these segways! The owner was very cool and gave us effective instruction. The shop is located two blocks from Golden Gate Park so we were zooming thru the park in no time. We covered lots of ground and saw places we might not have on foot. I highly recommend this place for families – fun for all!

Amazing! Best way to see SF. Charlie is very knowledgable and friendly. We hit haight ash bury, the entire park and the lands end in 2.5hrs. Truly the best way to see SF, and I think this may be the only self guided I could find. We did guided in the city the day before… it was cool, but not nearly as cool as self guided.

Awesome… We wanted to tour the golden gate park area on our own and this was perfect. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the equipment and area. Prices seemed very reasonable for the San Francisco area.

We found this place completely by mistake after our usual segway tour company was all sold out. We said… why not? we know how to operate a segway, we have smartphone with GPS… and frankly with the tour company half the time I can’t hear what the guide say. It is easier to have a big group and a guide when you ride on a busy SF street, but for the park one can make it very comfortably without a guide. I’ve been to a fewy guided tours in different places and this eperiance was nothing like that.
The very nice and welcoming Alex showed us the segs operation, asked us to ride it around a little to see if indeed we can control it as we claim, took some more time to instruct the less confident group member, asked us to show her how we ride up and down a steep hill, stop and turn, and set us free after she explained about the area map and recommended some routs.
You have a map of the park in your seg just in case, but you don’t really need it if you have a smart phone to navigate you.
The segs are in a great operating shape and clean. you can get a helmet and gloves (we brought our own helmets and didn’t use gloves). the access to the middle of Golden Gate Park is just near by and there’s plenty of street parking next to the office.
The whole check in/​out is fast and smooth with not too many ceremonies and no time waste. Price is reasonable.
We had a blast! I’m going to come back very soon.

5 star, from start to finish. Our rental was a via a gift certificate that a friend had been able to arrange from England without any issues. We rang up the day before we wanted to go, arranged a time and turned up.
Following an excellent, thorough lesson, we were guided down to Golden Gate Park, so that we could get used to the Segways, including our hugely enthusiastic 7 year old. We then spent an amazing hour and a half exploring the park and Ocean Beach.
Great service, great activity, great fun :)

This was the absolute most fun thing to do while in San Fransisco. We took these things down to China town. it was rather far but it got us there and back. So easy to ride once you get the hang of it.
No tour guides. Just get on and go.

Since this was my first time ever riding a Segway, I was a little bit afraid to be honest. Thoughts of myself running into a car and flying off roamed my mind as we went inside the rental shop. Those fears were quickly stifled after watching the informative video and seeing how easy it was to operate the Segways by the shop worker’s demonstrations. We strapped some helmets to our heads and put gloves on, and we all stepped on the machines for a practice run. My mind was put at ease with how simple it was to accelerate, turn, stop and park, and I couldn’t wait to take them out and test the speeds. I felt like a kid again with the wind blowing through my hair as we zoomed our way through the nearby park. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip, and I would totally do it again!

Great Segway experience at Golden Gate Park and by the beach. We had 2 adults and 6 kids are 8 – 16 years old and we all agree Segway is the most fun activity to do in San Francisco. Charlie the owner gave us a like 30 mins tutorial and we were ready to go our own for one and half hours.
Very reasonable price and they provide helmets, groves, and even jackets for us.

Charlie is the best! My 12 year old grandson and myself rented Segways from him and he was great! We had a lesson in his store and off we went. Two hours later we came back and we are pros! Walking on your legs is soooooo over. Segway is the way to go! Rent from Charlie and you get to ride around the park and do whatever you like. No fussy tour guides for us! No big groups of slow pokes! We zipped around and had a blast.
As long as you pay attention to Charlie’s advice, the Segway is a breeze to use. I am almost 60, not feeble, but not a triathlete either and it was super easy for me.
You can see a lot of the park, get to the beach, and all kinds of things in just 2 hours.
Highly recommended!

Not to sound like a broken record, but… I second what everyone else on here is saying about Segway SF Bay and Charlie. He’s the best!
I recently visited friends in San Francisco, and a friend unexpectedly suggested that we spend a cool winter afternoon riding Segways around Golden Gate Park. A quirky idea, to be sure, but I suppose I couldn’t think of a reason NOT to!
My friend kindly made a reservation for us. We showed up slightly late, and Charlie admitted that he was wondering about us and was about to give us a call (yes, he’s that attentive and on top of it)!
My friend and I were the only ones in the store when we showed up at around 2:30 pm on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so Charlie was able to give us his full attention. First, he helped us select a bike helmet with the proper fit. Second, he gave us a lesson on how to operate the Segway, then watched us carefully as we tested them out. Third, he showed us (somewhat hilarious) videos of total morons biting the dust on their Segways, which made me vow not to become one of them.
Then my friend and I were on our way. The going was super easy the whole way. I really didn’t find any aspect of riding the Segways difficult or challenging. It was easy to ride over rough terrain, easy to go up and down hills (although a steep slope can take some adjusting to), easy to start and stop, etc. I didn’t fall once.
In short: Great experience. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Segway SF Bay to a friend. Give ‘em a shot!

Seriously, segways are not as easy they look! But once you become comfortable with them, they are tons of fun!
I was searching for a team event on a budget, and Segways SF fit the bill just right. Reserving for 14 people was a breeze — Charlie was very accommodating and a pleasure to work with. He’s a one-​man shop in charge of phone or online booking, reception, training and even your tour guide if needed!
His service is definitely the best value amongst all Segway companies I looked at. He was almost 40% less than what others offered — no groupon needed! The best part is the flexible schedule and route — it’s a self-​guided tour so you can go anywhere you want in the park.
We started with a training video on the perils of Segways — basically Charlie’s way of saying do not use these machines as bumper cars or racing bikes. He then had each person try it out to get a hang of it before guiding us to the park and letting us go on our own. We then had 90 minutes of cruising along Golden Gate Park. After a week of rain, we were blessed with a gorgeous day! Such a wonderful experience cruising on a Segway through the park, the beach, Cliff House, Stow Lake — made for one of the best team events ever!
A couple of our teammates had tiny mishaps in the beginning (I told you — these are not easy!), so Charlie closed his shop and joined us for the ride. He even took our group photos. Can’t think of a more accommodating owner than Charlie! This is the best and most cost-​effective Segway shop in SF! We are definitely coming back!
