My husband and I moved into a Saxe property-​managed building back in 2010 and we were tenants in that same building for five years until we moved away last summer. During the five years we were at that property, Saxe was always helpful with the (aging) building as much as the owner of the property would allow. Steven Zhang was exceptionally helpful when we had repairs needed and when we moved out, he worked to make sure we received our full deposit back.
After living in San Francisco for 13 years and going through many property management companies (all at a single previous building!), I can say easily that Saxe is the best.

Working with Steven and Saxe Management to rent and maintain our apartment has been a wonderful experience. They are extremely professional, very kind, and very on top of everything. They make renting so easy! Great property management co. :-)

Wow. Where do I even begin? When we first moved in as tenants at a property managed by Saxe I thought it was going to be great — as the woman who leased us the property was AMAZING (Sueellen as everyone else is raving about — AWESOME and really made you feel like a person she genuinely cared about). However, she soon left and we then had Dennis who will get things fixed pretty quickly (usually), but if you want an actually response/​phone call/​acknowledgment in any respect that he received your request? Nope. It magically goes off into cyber universe where you may or may not see your request get fulfilled. No big deal… we would still be working with a four star rating here.
Then I went to move out where I got to deal with a cluster between Dennis… Steven when Dennis wouldn’t answer… and even cold calling whoever would answer the phone when no one would answer me at all. First, we find out that my roommate wasn’t a «co-​signer», but a «subtenant under my lease». What does this mean? That with me as a master lease holder leaving, they could up the rent… but this took weeks for them to determine and they then raised it by $ 700/​month (on someone who has lived there with no issues or late payment for over a year). THEN, we get slammed with a $ 2400 water bill out of the blue that I was told will come out of our deposit. WHAT?! Yes, I signed a lease that had a point where we paid the water bill. We never received a bill and therefore we forgot about it. I had to argue with them as they were over charging us by over $ 1K! Are. You. Kidding Me?! It appears as though they just messed up and had been cutting checks from Saxe and then realized when we were moving out that someone should pay for that (as otherwise they were just paying it and losing the money). We went back and forth for a month on the water bill, where eventually they agreed to my estimation (saving over 1K to us), as legally they were in the wrong. Oy.
Sure, they are going to say «Jaclyn legally you signed a lease to pay water» and «Jaclyn legally your roommate was not signed as a tenant on the lease». What it boils down to is they treated us like dirt and ended up being money hungry unhelpful property managers who made you feel like another peg in their money sucking machine. Shame on you for being a prime example of what is wrong with San Francisco rental issues. Beware.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience with Saxe! We had three days to find a place when we moved out from Arizona, and by God’s grace, we found the perfect spot. Renting in San Francisco is overwhelming to begin with, so having a caring team to walk you through the process was such a relief. Cris and Dennis were a joy to work with and if we ever need another place in the city, they’re our people!

Sueellen was an AMAZING agent to work with. She truly puts all her effort into making sure you are 110% satisfied, makes herself available whenever you may need her, and drastically eases the process of applying for a rental property.

The first thing Steven Z. said after assessing my rental property was «I can rent this space for $xxx/​month right away.» He discouraged me from spending more money to make the place charming. Instead he gave me a few DIY pointers to improve the rentability. That advise alone saved me a few $k. Then he shared with me his knowledge on what tenants are looking for in current rental market. Even though the income range he suggested was a bit hard to swallow, his decisive comments and explanations, coming from the experience of handling over 300 rental properties made sense and convinced me he is right.
Like a well-​respected Jewish Shadchan or Chinese Zuo Mei Ren, I sense that he has everyone’s best interests at heart and somehow will be able to bring me a right tenant match.
I’d like to recommend Steven Z. of Saxe for his accessibility and his sharp assessments of the rental market situation.

This review is about Suellen Campos, our contact for rentals at Saxe. As we got on the market for a single family house in San Francisco last month, we met Sueellen through one of the listings she was showing. That listing wasn’t what we were looking for, but within a few days, we got a call back from her about a place that wasn’t listed yet but that she thought we would like, based on what we had told her, and on her grasp of our specifics. She was right on target. We had been seeing a lot of places in the previous weeks, and this one was it. After that, Sueellen was very helpful and understanding through the application and lease preparation process, despite a few quirks specific to our case (don’t we all have these?). The lease signing was well organized (on a Sunday), professional, with all our questions answered. We will move in soon, ans since the lease was signed, Suellen has continued to perform, managing communication with the current tenants and the landlord. I recommend Suellen for her knowledge of the market; for her ability to listen and understand prospective renters needs; and for her professionalism, responsiveness and transparency. Oh, and she is a very nice person to interact with, too! Definitely recommended.

Sueellen was such an amazing agent. She honestly made what was becoming one of the most stressful and discouraging apartment searches of my entire life more bearable. She was professional, on time to every meeting, and really helped me and my roommates find the most amazing place. Beyond that, she took the time to get to know us on a personal level and see just how good of tenants we would be, something no one else in the city had done when we were applying for places.

Thank goodness for Sueellen! She contacted us through our ‘housing wanted’ ad that we posted in Craigslist to show us an apartment that she thought we’d like. She was right, we loved it — and despite a valiant effort on her part to get us in, the landlord inexplicably chose someone else. Sueellen was as dissappointed as we were, and a few days later she called to offer us a sneak peak of a new apartment not yet on the market. Well, it turned out to be an even better fit– better located, more space, and less expensive! She worked overtime to negotiate with the landlord and we got the place! We’ve been in our new home for two weeks now and love it. Many thanks to Sueellen for her incredibly generous efforts on our behalf!

Sue Ellen @ Saxe is a pretty awesome agent. She was very professional and empathetic to our needs. When my roommate and I randomly showed up at the office late on a Friday afternoon she changed her plans for the evening to go show us a place. We loved it and she was there to guide us with every detail, she talked to the landlord who gave us a better «move in date».
Sue Ellen checked in on us after a week or so, we had a small issue and the land lord was unavoidably out of the country. She really jumped into action and worked with us to come to a very reasonable solution. In the end the reason why I have recommended her to my friends and contacts is not just because she clearly is good at what she does but because in the unlikely event something doesn’t go according to plan it’s nice to have an agent who is knowledgeable and genuinely has your best interest at heart.
We are really touched by how helpful she has been and when the time comes to move again will likely call her up for help then to.

I had a great experience with Saxe real estate. Especially to Sue Ellen, she’s very helpful, so detailed oriented, and once you get to met her you’ll get that positive vibe that she is willing to help and most of all she’s very understanding and SO RELIABLE. She helped me get the apartment that my partner and I were really looking forward to move in when she showed us the place. The apartment was in a great condition, very clean and the location is perfect to in every way, she did a great job taking care of the place. Looking for a real estate agent to rent/​buy/​sell? Saxe is a great company with hardworking employees. It’s all about location location location!
Also I’m able to call Steven anytime there’s a problem with my place. Hot water not working? Great, he’ll have someone out within 24 hours of my stress call. Locked out of my apartment? He comes running with the spare keys. Does a great job of giving me the 411 about the place and is very organized and professional.
I’d also like to mention that they have access to a lot of great listings — anything to fit your budget. I’ve seen really beautiful apartments (out of my budget, but nice to know they have rich clients) and I’ve seen some that are not so bad that I can afford.

I’ve lived in their property for a year and other than the initial awful experience with the agent, it’s been great. The repairs/​maintenance was always very quick — they usually came out within a few days of a request and worked with my work schedule.
The move out process was pretty smooth, from the new agent in charge of leasing out the apartment (I think her name was Joy, if she’s representing your property I think you’ll be in good hands!) to the property manager, Steven, who came out to look the the apartment before the move-​out to make sure I got my entire security deposit back.
So I guess they’re not bad as I initially thought, my apartment never had any major problems. I might rent with them again.

This real estate company deserves no stars! Extremely unprofessional! One of the agents was suppose to meet for an apartment viewing and never even showed up. When I called her she didn’t answer and didn’t even call me back for two days. Even though I knew this was a bad sign I decided to set up another appointment to view the apartment and the day before the viewing I called Sueellen to confirm the appointment and she told me the apartment was rented. She didn’t even have the courtesy to call me and tell me the apartment was rented I had to call her.
DON’T RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!

I’ve been living in a Saxe run apartment building for about 7 months (5 months left on my lease) and the apartment is falling apart. The electricity goes out all the time and when it rains, it rains inside because of leaky windows.
When I first moved in, the couple of things I requested be fixed were fixed quickly, although I technically never got a response from Saxe directly. Then the bigger problems started creeping up. The heater didn’t work. After several unanswered emails, someone called me come out and fix it. The first company couldn’t fix it but fortunately the second did.
Then I discovered the window issues, several emails and calls later, someone looks at it but doesn’t fix it. Still not fixed and Saxe is ignoring me after dealing with this issue for months.
The mailbox was broken which went unfixed for weeks until I sent an email saying that PG&E and my credit cards like to be paid on time, much like my landlord does, so I need to get those bills. They fixed it the next day.
The apartment across the hallway is vacant and they had someone come and refinish the floors, there was dust all over the hallway. It took 4 weeks of complaining to get that cleaned and I had to threaten to hire someone and send them to bill to get it done.
The electricity is the bigger issue. The power goes out regularly and there are power surges all the time (2 this morning, 3 last night) that has caused me some concern. I’ve sent email after email about this, just asking the «managers» thoughts on getting it checked out or when it was last looked at… silence. I never hear back from him.
I’ve specifically asked for responses and the property manager never gets back to me about anything. The apartment is old so there will be issues but that’s why there is a property management company, to manage the property.
On their website they claim that «We will continue to manage that relationship for the duration of their stay and ensure a smooth transition upon move-​out.». They are not managing the relationship with me, one of their current tenants and I guarantee if I could move out now, I would so that transition wouldn’t be smooth…
