Looks like I found a new tailor!
Excellent quality service. Repaired my denim, and they look good as new. Prices may seem high, but you definitely get what you payed for. I plan on coming here for all my tailoring needs. I just wish they took credit cards!

I’ve been coming here for 5+ years! I always keep Sally busy with all my alterations and crazy ideas. I probably had stuff done here more than anyone else, that’s how much I trust her with ALL my GStar stuff! The pricing reflects on the quality of work done along with the attention to details. Always satisfied and never disappointed. I recommend this place. This was some of my crazy ideas I gave Sally… a pair of distressed GStar Type-​C jeans I personally cut up before even wearing them, then having Sally take pieces off my GStar scarf to patch up the holes from underneath/​inside each leg. The left-​over from the scarf I had her make me a pocket scarf and a bandanna. I surprise she did it because that’s making her work for her money. Lol Thanks Sally!

Purchasing custom clothing through this shop is one of the biggest regrets. I ordered a custom tie and vest from SF tailors for my September wedding. They promised me that it would arrive a week before my wedding, but they did not even send it out until after my wedding. I emailed and called them for a week straight asking them about the status of my order, no one called and no one updated me. When I found this tailor online I was super excited, as I thought I was purchasing through a small business based in San Francisco — boy was I wrong. Evidently, their custom items are made in China which is one of the reasons why it took weeks for me to receive my purchase. I finally received my purchase three weeks late, the box was nearly torn to shreds, the quality was subpar (looked extremely cheap), and it looked nothing like the items pictured on their website. In addition, I sent them a photo of my bridesmaid dress and they agreed that they would be able to match the fabric of the vest to the dresses. When I received the vest and tie the color was a bright crimson (blood) red, even though the picture that I sent was a dark burgandy color. Had I even received this item in time for my wedding it still would not have matched!!! Maybe this business is wonderful if you interact with them in person, but I urge you to not use them as an online retailer for custom items. I am really mad at myself for not doing research on this business ahead of time, because they are quite a few of one star reviews on Unilocal of this business.

I never write reviews but this place is fantastic. Had a pair of selvedge denim jeans that needed to be tapered and hemmed but I was worried about the quality.
Sally and SF Tailors couldn’t have done a better job with a difficult pair of pants. Recommended!

After calling countless tailors in SF who can taper my selvedge jeans, I settled on SF Tailors. Self Edge (the raw denim shop that recommended me) highly recommended SF tailor. Since I spent an ungodly amount on these jeans, I might as well spend another $ 55 to taper them.
Selvedge denim is a bit different from regular denim. You need to taper from the inseam and most tailors don’t know about this. Tailors also need to have a chainstitched machine. I was quite reluctant going in but the owner reassured me that he’s worked with many many selvedge denim. I put my trust in him and came back a week later extremely impressed and satisfied!
The thread color never changed colors and they used the same chainstitched method on my jeans. You can barely tell it was altered. I had another pair of regular jeans hemmed and i didn’t have any complaints about that either.
I highly recommend this place if you have complicated and expensive denim to alter. Now I can wear my jeans clean cut and in style *insert emoji with sunglasses*

I gave Sally a pair of selvage denim with custom work on them, and I am so happy with the results. They are from the early 2000s, and had a wider fit affected from the 90s, but we talked before any altering was done about what was realistic, and possible, to alter, without stripping the jeans of their original design: She brought the legs in, as promised, made the selvedge look good (although I’m not into cuffing my jeans, and don’t care for preserving such an overnice, hidden detail), seamlessly hemming around areas where chain stitching could not be removed without destroying the original external design. Since we agreed that the upper structure, including the waist, could not be altered without a complete overhaul, she did not touch that area; but in lieu made the lower, inseam alterations look perfect in proportion with the whole! :Elated!:

We bought a suit nearby and needed a hemming before going to an event that night which I thought would not be possible but San Francisco Tailors saved the day. You can tell they also care to do their services correctly providing a changing room for customers to be measured and fitted. She showed the different height options and made sure we were happy with what we were gonna get with the hemming service.
This place wins for friendly, enthusiastic and same-​day service. This is definitely rare is I did a round of calls of nearby tailors and most of them laughed at me with rejection. San Francisco Tailors has a convenient location right in Union Square which, to me, justifies the higher prices. I was also late to pick up the suit but she patiently waited an extra 15 minutes pass closing for me. Five stars, will use them again gladly!
The place is a little hidden so look for the street sign. Enter the elevator and you should be good to go.

Tailoring professionals, my clothes now look couture. While I have no sewing skills, I know what good tailoring is. It starts with the right measurements, an attention to detail, and fine execution. This place wins on all accounts and I am so lucky to have found them. You’d be lucky too!

They always do a good job here w/​all our jeans (we buy a lot!) as well as my dresses and hub’s jackets/​suits.
Prices have increased by $ 5 for hemming. Dress alterations are really expensive (sometimes rivaling the cost of my dress if I got it on sale) but since the lady I used to go to retired, I don’t really have a choice. Sigh
If you want quality, you gotta pay.

Hit or miss with this place. Mine not so expensive pants, they did an ok job but I recently bought a really nice suit and brought the pants to get hemmed. Ok, I figured how can anyone messed up on hemming… they did. There were little dots running around the hemmed area and they are not even straight dots. The worst part is they pressed the pants to the point where the pants has artificial embroided lines. My brand new pants now has lines all over… and it’s ¾ inch shorter than what was measured before. It’s just amazing how they could destroy an exciting feeling I had when I just bought the suit… and now, a frustrating feeling.
This tells me to never bring anything expensive to this place, they will screw it up!

I have been coming to this tailor for about two years now (ever since I started loosing weight and need to resize my business clothes). They have always done a great job on slacks, not just bringing in the waist, but raising the inseam, making a baggy pair of pants slim and modern etc.
I then had them work on my sport coats– some merely needed a little «bringing in” — but one needed the shoulders redone (basically taking a 44 Jacket and resizing to a 42). They did a great job… Excellent work, precise stitching and the end product fit great and looked superb.
Even when I asked for adjustments and changes, they had no prob. making them — they were patient and suggestive.
The pricing is very good. And for the work done, well worth it!
Then I brought in a major project– taking my 44 long tuxedo and fitting it to a 40 long. Now that is major work. It was a great tux, but fit like a tent (before I brought it in). WelI I just tried it on and WOW! Amazing job. Fits perfect, looks modern. The jacket is perfect. Basically, like a newly cut and fitted tuxedo.
And the price was a LOT less than going out and buying a new one.

I may have visited a tailor, a barber, a suit salesman and a shoe shiner all in the same day in San Francisco, and yes sometimes I wish it was 1905. Seeing this guy tucked in between Paul Smith & Neiman Marcus, around the corner from the Goorin Brothers, Jack London may as well be on the stoop south of the slot, when I turned into the tiny door for this tailor.
Couldn’t dream up a better tailor experience. Union Square. $ 15. Cash only. Fitting rooms. Extra shoes to confirm length. Two day turn around. A kind guy who doesn’t mind neurotic questions. He as really attentive to detail, answered all my questions and made me feel like people were kind like in 1905.

I would like to share my recent experience with you about SF Tailors. Many of us who buy and wear high end designer clothing will surely understand and relate with me on this subject. Generally, when we purchase clothes of the rack, it will require some type of alteration whether it be shortening a hem or taking in or letting out a seam.
Therefore, it is crucial that it is in the hands of a qualified, skilled and experienced person who specializes in all aspects of tailoring and alterations.
I purchased a new Dior Homme black blazer in a lightweight wool suiting. It is a classic tailored blazer — single breast, notch collar and fully lined. It required some minor alterations, the sleeves needed to be shortened ¼″ and the blazer length by 5/​8″
I called upon my tailor-​alteration specialists who works at a reputable retail establishment only to discover that he had retired. He is in my opinion, the last of dying breed in this industry. He took pride in his work and it showed in his workmanship. So now the process of finding a new tailor of the same caliber becomes a challenging situation. Where does one begin?
As referred by a friend, I decided to take it to SF Tailors located in Union Square.
I brought my blazer in and introduced myself to a woman named Sally, (co-​owner) and told her that she was highly recommended. She was busy with a customer who was being fitted for shortening a pair of jeans. I sat and watched Sally work on the customer, she seemed self-​assured and efficient.
She made me put on my blazer and we both agreed that the sleeve and the blazer lengths needed to be shortened. She pinned, marked and noted the adjustments and wrote up the invoice and told me when it would be ready.
As scheduled, I picked up the blazer, paid Sally the 105.00 and said I would like to try it on. My immediate reaction was satisfying, the changes were subtle but it made a difference. I thanked her and left.
That evening, as I was dressing for a casual night out in jeans and a tee, I slipped my arms into the blazer and immediately felt something awkward rubbing against my forearms. I turned the sleeves inside out and was dismayed at the crude and amateur method they had used to finish the garment. One each sleeve lining, the forearm seam from the wrist to the elbow level, the seam allowances were folded together and machine stitched from the outside forming a stiff ridge. I checked the finishing on the jacket hem and it too was poorly executed. The hem of the jacket was not finished by hand as it was originally, instead it was sewn by machine except for the small opening which was sloppily tacked together.
The next day, I called Sally to express my dissatisfaction with the finishing of my blazer and that the sleeve lining seams felt uncomfortable on. She made a cynical comment about why I didn’t wear a shirt with a jacket. I explained to her that the workmanship was not up to the original production standard and that she took short cuts to eliminate any type of hand work and had no regard for maintaining the original construction. It was not up to par for the amount she charged me and I wanted it repaired. Her response was I should have specified what I wanted and that is considered extra custom work. I told her it was not my position to tell her how to do her job. It goes without saying, that you don’t make critical changes to a garment and it should have been sewn and finished like the original. I told her that I had similar work done before and it was perfect just like the way it was intended to be. Her voice became increasingly louder and telling me that I did not know what I was talking about and that in the 15 years of business no one has ever complained about them. (please refer to past reviews) Little did she know that I am a pattern maker by profession with 25 years experience. She began verbally berating me, repeating louder and louder that this is how its done, there is nothing they can do about it and that was it. I responded by telling her that her behavior was unprofessional and the next thing I realized, she hung up on me!
The purpose of a lined garment serves several purpose. First, it visually looks good from the inside out and it conceals all the seams and inner construction. Second, it should feel smooth and comfortable to the wearer. My main complaint is the shoddy workmanship and little regard for the integrity of the original construction that one expects from a well made expensive garment. They compromised the quality, while deceiving the customer to make a quick buck. This is unconscionable trade practice.
Therefore, my only recourse here is to post this review on Unilocal.They are incapable of detailed work that requires true tailoring. Please reconsider doing business here.

I’ve been here several times before. My score is an average of my experiences. Typically I’ve been helped by a wonderfully pleasant woman who does a great job on my clothes — I have brought suits, shirts, jeans, pants, etc. However based on my last experience I won’t go back. The gentleman at the register was unbelievably arrogant. I arrived a few minutes before closing (after walking 20 minutes to get there), and he greeted me with «we are closing» — no «hello», no «hey would love to but had a long day». After I explained that I just had a few items for alteration and that I came there often he thought for a few seconds and said aggressively «Can you try them all on before 6?» I said «I’m not sure. Do you want my business or not?» He thought for a few seconds and said «No I don’t. I can’t take these». OK, I guess a couple minutes of your time to actually greet and help somebody isn’t worth $ 150+ to you.
Well guess what turns out there are 20 other tailors within a 3 block radius. I went to The Diaz brothers — located 2 blocks away, open until 9, often same day service. Good bye SF Tailors.

Brought wedding dress, suit, pants and shirts here. Alterations were done quick and professional — perfect fit afterwards!
Cash only is annoying, otherwise very satisfied.

SF Tailors managed to alter my absolutely favorite laptop sleeve to fit.

At the recommendation of a local business, my husband and I took our suits here to get tailored before our east-​coast wedding. The gentleman who helped us seemed to know what he was doing, marked our jackets, vests, and slacks.
When I picked up the clothing my pants fit fine, but my jacket didn’t fit as well as I had hoped. No biggie, I thought, perhaps my expectations were unrealistic.
My husbands jacket did not fit well. One side draped much lower then the other. We asked the tailor to fix this. He immediately became aggressive and informed us he would fix his work for an extra price only. I didn’t think that was fair, since his work didn’t pan out the first time, but we finally agreed. After coming back in two more times to get the jacket tailored, it still never fit. The tailors attitude throughout this experience was combative, and condescending. We called it a loss, and went to the east-​coast for our wedding.
On a whim we stopped by an east-​coast tailor, and asked him to take a look. he opened both of our jackets from a small side seam and (drum roll) he said that our jackets had NEVER been tailored! The buttons had been moved around many times, but there had NEVER been any tailoring on the inside of the jacket. He showed us some technical stitches, and various things that he said proved that no hands had ever touched this jacket after the machines sewed it up.
When we came back from our wedding we went into the shop and very calmly told the tailor we would like a refund for the jacket tailoring only. He became wildly aggressive, told us to get out, and we eventually left calling it a loss on our part. The business is CASH ONLY, so we weren’t able to dispute this with our credit card unfortunately.
He did a good job on our pants, but he charged us for work he never did on our suit jackets, and was very difficult to deal with when we needed his work revised. I would never recommend a rip-​off artist like this to anyone.

Let’s say you’re 5’2 (and fabulous) and have a habit of buying pants in Costco-​sized quantities. Clearly every pair of pants you ever purchase will be at least a foot too long and with skinny jeans there’s only so much you can roll before you start to look preposterous. Pretty much everything I buy that isn’t explicitly labelled «petites» could do with a touch of tailoring.
Enter San Francisco Tailors, who are happy to bust out expertly hemmed pants on short notice, and do so with a smile. I recently handed them 13 pairs of jeans to hem and they were able to deliver within the week. They do a clean original hem (ie: on thick denim) if requested and were able to alter everything I’ve brought them, from vests and jackets to skirts with complicated hems. There are several fitting rooms for trying on and pointing out what you’d like altered, and if you forget to bring flats or heels to demonstrate the length (for hemming) they have some spares available.
The elevator experience is little cramped/​scary so if you are claustrophobic, put on your big boy pants and hang tight.

I usually do my own adjustments to clothes — hence why my pants are hemmed with Unilocal pins and why I always have a slew of safety pins lying around.
But if you want a real professional to transform a too big coat into a form fitting fashionista find — then just take your ware over to SFT. San Francisco Tailors knows what’s up when it comes to preserving the integrity of your clothes, while at the same time — fitting them to your body. I took a red wool pea-​coat here awhile back and they did a masterful job on it.
I also appreciate how honest this place this. I came in here the other day — carting a gorgeous Pendelton patterned coat that I had purchased on Ebay. The coat was obviously waaaay too big (despite being advertised as a small) in the shoulders, the sides, and looked ridiculous on. I quickly hauled it on over to San Francisco tailors. The main guy who works there took a look at it and said that he could definitely take it in — but that it would cost about $ 150 dollars (more than what I paid for the coat) — and that it may not be worth the changes. I appreciated his honesty and carted that oversized masterpiece home with me.
Though alterations aren’t always cheap here — the folks at San Francisco Tailors know what they’re doing and their turn-​around time is applaud-​able as well.

Looking to get a bridesmaid dress tailored? I was and decided to give San Francisco Tailors a chance because of their location and good reviews on Unilocal.
The bridesmaid dress was $ 130 and I paid $ 90 to get it altered (trust me, I’m never going to wear this dress again).
For $ 90, oscar took in the bust area and tapered the aline of the dress. He also shortened the length for me.
Pros: ready in a week; quick and fast results

*during the wedding I noticed the a little part of the seam was coming out from under my dress…(yes to my chagrin, i was unraveling!) i just cut that part off but i was definitely thinking it shouldn’t be unraveling if I paid $ 90 to get it altered.
