Have read all the reviews, and truly for a free treatment i wouldn’t focus on receptionist’s service and expect cheezy smiles. But i have been there today, and woman that instructed me was nice and adequate !
tb test itself was quick, Ive been prepared and informed .

The Spanish receptionist is rude and they messed up my appointment. And the guys who takes appointment for people is either deaf or too stupid to process English. How can you mixed up Pap smear with cough? It’s amazing. Drove myself here from work for check a cough I have. Lol.

What a God send! Having no health insurance and no idea how to deal with my semi-​moderate medical emergency, I found this free clinic online, and am so incredibly grateful I did. Called them Monday afternoon to make an appointment and was squeezed in literally within the HOUR! Again, a God send.
I went in as though I was going into battle; readying myself for the notoriously rude receptionist I read about on several reviews, however, I was met with two lovely, informative and super sweet ladies. The staff was efficient, friendly and knowledgable and I got in, out, and meds in under one hour. I don’t know what I would have done without this place. Thank you guys for being a wonderful experience and truly a miracle!

Everybody is nice and helpful but THEY SHOULD CHANGE THE RECEPTIONIST! The one they have now is rude and angry. Even on the phone she sounds unpleasant and makes you feel bad.

While their services might be fine I will not know because I never even got to see a doctor or student or whatever.
I was told I would make it to work on time when I set my appointment and that they would be able to read the disc for my X-​rays.
Instead they gave me the run around twice. Starting off with the extremely rude receptionist. Who made me feel completely un welcomed which transferred over to the entire visit.
When you have people that are in pain and under stress you should try a little bit to make them feel ok; they do the opposite here. They are unorganized and rude.
I would rather pay a thousand dollars than see these people. Right from the start I felt so uncomfortable that I knew I didn’t want them touching me.
They said I could stay or go when I got upset. I left.

Great people who do great work to help the uninsured with their medical needs. Would give this place 20 stars if I could.

Save your time by not going there. I know most of the people who consider this have no other options… Well what do you expect from young volunteers? Mesure your pressure and advise you to «take some ibuprofen». Nobody was rude to me, however, that’s not a REAL clinic and REAL knowlegdeable professionals. Don’t waste your time.

I have nothing but great things to say after my first visit to the SFFC!
For starters, I was shocked that I was able to get an appointment in less than a week. When I arrived the staff was kind and helpful, nobody barked at me (I rarely put much stock in angry Unilocaler’s reviews anyway), and I was in and out in a little over an hour. Incredible right? I know!
Everyone who saw/​helped me was polite and friendly, the office/​exam rooms clean, and I left feeling really good about the level of care I received from the doctor.

I’m torn about how many stars to give because I really like this clinic, their medical staff is great, the clinic is very clean, and their cause to provide medical care to the uninsured. However, their receptionist (the one with dark straight hair) can be extremely rude and power tripping at times. Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself and talk back to make her realize that you are the customer. She was extremely rude to an elderly gentleman who walked in to make an appointment who was running low on medications and needed refills. I know exactly what medications he’s on and what insurance he had prior because she asked him in the waiting room loud and clear for everyone to hear. This is confidential info that no one but the medical staff should know, however this poor gentleman who could barely express himself in English probably didn’t know. I’m giving 1 star because I hope this review captures the attention of management at this clinic. The receptionist needs to be educated in customer service and HIPPA policies.

I hate to give a less than kind review, but who wants to be barked at by a receptionist? Especially when you’re not feeling well? Hire someone who actually likes their job. She was so rude. It was unbelievable.
I see this from previous reviews this is a running theme. Where is management? Why does she still work there?

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Lucy Kalanithi. She is extremely nice, thorough, professional, and genuinely cares about her patients. She makes you feel very well cared for. It also doesn’t hurt that she is the most lovely doctor I have ever seen. How did I get so lucky to meet such a wonderful angel of medicine.

this clinic is amazing and the staff are fantastic. I made an appointment here last week after getting an infection on my leg a month prior. I came here after seeing another doctor at the mission urgent care who misdiagnosed me and gave me a bunch of medicine to take and «hopefully one of them will fix it» resulting in getting an big allergic reaction to one of the medication. Long story short I wasted $ 75 for that office trip and $ 60 on useless medicine. So I was a little weary of going to a free clinic and being properly cared for. The doctor saw my wound and properly examined it and even got a second doctor to come get another opinion. They sent me to sf general to get it properly drained since it was out of their practice at this clinic. So I’m typing this now only 4 days later with a healing cut and no more infection. I cant say enough about this clinic for those without insurance but I am very grateful for this place!

All the staffs are fantastic ^.^ Except the woman at the reception (front desk) she is so rude the way she talk & i think she really hates her job.

5 stars for being here to help those of who are in the process of getting medical insurance, but not there yet.
However 4 stars due to the woman at reception. She clearly hates her job, or just hates people.
I can usually bring out a little happy in people, but she was not interested in joy!
From earlier reviews, it seems the reception reviews are hit or miss.
Mine was a miss.
When I called to get info n make appointment, it was clear the woman I talked to was trying her best to have me not come here. She answered my questions but was snippy n rude.
I unfortunately dealt with her both times I have come in for appointments as well.
(There was another woman at the front desk who was fantastic! the first time I came in she was wonderful, talking n playing with my daughter. (see more below) But she was busy the second time I came in, so I had to deal with miss grumpy.)
I said hi. She didnt respond.
I smiled at her, she looked down.
I told her we moved, she huffed that I needed to fill out the form again n pointed in the general direction of two clipboards w forms, as she turned away.
My friend (who came along to care for my daughter while I was in) asked to use the bathroom. She initially wasnt going to let him because hes not a patient, then when I told her I asked him to come along for childcare, rolled her eyes n pointed to where the bathroom is w a sigh.

On my first visit, my childcare fell thru so I had to bring my then 14 month old along. Luckily the first visit was to get a new Rx only, so it was pretty quick. And all the staff in back and the nice one from the front desk loved her, played with her, carried her around, etc.
So nice! Above n beyond what I expected. They even told me to be sure to bring her next time! So sweet! :)

I haven’t been there yet, but I just scheduled my appointment (and she got me a very an appointment within the week on a very convenient day/​time). My case was a little embarrassing etc. and she was extremely understanding towards those things and was willing to para-​phrase the description so as to save me the embarrassment!
My assumption is that the lady is responsible not only for appointments, but for the sanity of the Doctors and staff who work there. So, while she doesn’t have the «right» to, she probably has to make a lot of judgement calls as to what needs urgent help. So, please be cognizant of this. Might not be a great place it it’s just flu as it might be blocking others as well as making the Doctors and staff busier.
So far so good. I’ll definitely update this after my appointment. I also think this is my first ever Unilocal review (yup, when you’re desperate without insurance, some things are more important than good food!).
UPDATE: My experience was fantastic! The training doctors were professional, helpful and very funny :). I had a great experience. I almost don’t ever want an insurance just go I can keep going there.
I loved it and cannot recommend this place enough!

They only accept patients that have no medical insurance. The student medical staff will examine you, then consult with their supervisor and then talk to you about treatments. Because of this, allow extra time for each appointment. The clerical staff on the front desk are professional. The medical staff are knowledgable and have good social skills.
I don’t know what I’d do if this clinic didn’t exist. Thank you SF Free Clinic!

Friendly staff, AMAZING doctors who go ABOVE and BEYOND. This was more efficient than my ex HMO plan. Dr. Schane has been extraordinarily helpful.
Make sure to donate what you can and let them know how much you appreciate them

so far this place puts the «pass» in compassionate. Nothing like being poor and sick and then asked to take a crawl down the qualifying runway of some receptionist that fancies herself the Tyra Banks of doling out appointments.
