Better, faster, friendlier service than any other city service I’ve used. Kudos to the staff and administration.
Only caveat: don’t go to the top floor without a referral — all the business is taken care of on the second floor. This isn’t marked anywhere, so it’s frustrating when you get up there, just to have to come back down.

Cathay House Restaurant sickens people. I notified SFDPH. Nice man said they would check it out. Cathay House still making people violently ill. Cathay House still open! Does someone have to die? My opinion, SFDPH has to be taking bribes to allow such a health hazard establishment to operate. Entire tour bus loads of customers violently ill. Just like everything else in the city; looks pretty from a distance, but get up close and it’s dirty as hell and ugly. Do your job!!!

I only know the Department of Public Health as the parent agency of Community Behavioral Health Services (aka The San Francisco Department of Mental Health).
Since that agency is but a tiny fraction of its budget, it is probably unfair to judge DPH by the failures of CBHS.
That being said, it IS SF Civil Service so curtail your expectations.

I called in the morning at 9am Friday morning to report a restaurant that where I ate and made me sick. Nobody answered the phone. I left detailed message. In the afternoon, stilll nobody answers the phone and nobody returned my message. I am sure hundreds of people have went to the restaurant and walk out sick at their stomach. If this is a 0.5 star, I would do it instead of one star. My tax dollar is not working at this goverment office. I would rather put my tax dollar in

The place to be when you are headed to exotic locales and don’t want to return with a flesh-​eating virus or tapeworm. (Unless you get one of those worms that let you eat anything you want and not get fat. :) Anyways, the Department staff are so warm and caring, you’d think you’re at a spa and not a government bureaucracy. Okay, not really, but they are super-​nice here.
To kick-​start the process, they ask where you will be traveling and when, and recommend a battery of vaccines accordingly. For example, the highlands of Peru, where yours truly will be journeying, does not carry the risk of malaria or typhoid, but they recommended a painful tetanus shot and Hep A. I told the nurse practitioner that shots make me woozy, so she kindly allowed me to lay down and had a caring bedside manner.
I was sent away with prescriptions for altitude sickness and antibiotics, and a sweet bon voyage.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Division is charged with making sure that the places we eat are sanitary and safe.
