I paid S&R to have a former employer served. Although I told S&R that the company didn’t have a receptionist and wasn’t answering their phone (they owe everybody money) and just to go back and serve the person, the process server insisted on calling ahead and would not serve unless someone answered the phone. They said this is their policy. Had I known this I would not have used them and I did explain the situation beforehand. They were also slow to get back to me.
The second process server I hired had no issue, went back and served the person first time.

I have been using their services for two years and have never had a problem. Tiffany is AMAZING! She gets back to me almost immediately and helps me with any problem I may have. I would not be able to do my job without them/​her.

S and R are awesome! Efficient, keep you apprised of the status of the service, have a special rate if you are serving a business in SF. The whole process was finished in 3 days and the defendant paid!

The staff at S&R are very professional, efficient and pleasant to work with. They do what they do so seamlessly; I wish that they rest of the litigation process was this easy (Superior Courts and every other player in the system can learn a thing or two on how to get things done right from these guys).
I had the pleasure of working with Lynn at S&R, albeit virtually, via email… but that was the beauty of it. Nothing about my working with them on the service required my calling them. Her emails to me were prompt (uncannily prompt) and to the point, but also pleasant.

Great service! I ordered online late Friday afternoon and by Tuesday Morning my docs were served all at the standard local fee. Very Fair price, great service… thank you Tanya… and I am totally happy with S&R.

They served my docs to the right person right away and the price was $ 45. Really good and efficient and helped me out when there were problems submitting my order online. I’ll use them again.

They didn’t serve the person they were to serve and made attempts AFTER the original deadline to be served. $ 55 gone, but I get that sometimes it’s hard to serve a person. They told me $ 25 for 5 more attempts and asked me to get a court date further out for substituted service. I got the new court date, submitted online, and didn’t hear from them. My bad that I didn’t follow up. Got a third court date, submitted again online, didn’t hear from them again (ten days), so followed up this time. They said it would be $ 55 instead of $ 25 because I didn’t ask them to hold the account open for the new court date (they never instructed me to do so during the original quote), and even though I sent them a copy of the form I submitted online with the website, time, and date stamps, they asserted, «It’s strange that you’re the only one we didn’t get the forms from online» yadda yadda. They received proof of online submission, didn’t serve the person the original time out with attempts made later than contracted, didn’t honor their price quote for additional service attempts. Forget these folks. For all I know, they took the money and just sat on it. Yes, they sent me a list of the five initial attempts, but if they’re not going to believe what’s in writing in front of their faces, then that’s probably for the reason that they are doing that very thing, and I’d be a fool to trust them again.
UPDATE: ⁰⁹⁄₂₀₁₃ — Unilocal allows this business owner’s reply to be seen but not mine… Actually — contrary to his writing — we were in touch; I just wasn’t satisfied with his response (obviously he didn’t offer me a full refund). My review stands with the added: hire a friend to serve. For $ 20, I suspect the job will be done better.
