Rodeway Inn Civic Center

This inn is trying to upgrade with new TVs, hardwood floors and new counter tops. Beware, I noticed many rooms were not yet upgraded. The customer service was great, they brought me new batteries for the remote in the middle of the night. This place has gated security, yay!!! The neighborhood the block before is really rough, kind of scary rough and I wouldn’t go out at night like 10:00 unless necessary. The inn itself is pretty safe, the rooms come with fridge and microwave. By the way the surrounding area has a lot of cops so that helps with feeling safe and there are many places that offer late night delivery, after 10:00 pm. Ask for hidden room 210, its upgraded.

Feels like the place had just been renovated. Paint perfect, good bathroom, good bed and clean carpet. Great area to stay and some really nice café and restaurants in the area. Would happily recommend !

I’ve been traveling for so many years, and I’ve seen the whole world; but this is the worst place I’ve been to. They told me to «fuck myself» literally just because I asked about the parking right after I paid for 4 nights.

Solid for the price, at least in the slow season. With my 20% Choice discount I managed to get a rate of $ 60 after tax on a weeknight during the big tourism lull between Turkey Day and Santa Day. Placard inside of the door says they go up to $ 160 a night and I’ll bet they actually do go that high during the summer, but if you can land a good off-​season rate this is a totally passable and decent budget place from which to do stuff in SF for a day or three.
Location is OK, if you’re familiar with Van Ness it’s tucked directly behind the Burger King and Round Table. Walk two blocks west and you’re in Village Ghetto Land and just east across Van Ness is the TL, but the immediate block is decent and all the rooms here face an interior well which cuts down on possible drunk yodeling from the TL Bums in the wee hours. All the rooms are elevated (2^nd/​3^rd floor) with parking directly underneath them, and the lone stairwell/​elevator is locked off behind a door that requires your room key to get through — cars are still open to people walking up to them, but they have to walk by the front office to get to them, which I assume (hope) is staffed all night. It’s close enough to walk to Civic Center and the BART/​Muni Station there, or even down to the Van Ness station. The TL area right across Van Ness is Little Saigon and it’s worth going over there for banh mi, there’s a handful of other little interesting restaurants right in the immediate area too.
They seem to only have basic one queen /​two twin rooms but the one I had was respectably clean and had a good-​size flat screen, coffee maker and fridge /​microwave. Bathroom also had new-​looking fixtures. As other people mentioned the beds are not the latest in sleep technology and do have a bit of a «hospital» feel but if you’re tired enough you won’t care. Tv selection is a middling 37 channels but they do have a bunch of HBOs, ESPN and Comedy Central, pretty much all I need right there, YMMV.
Honestly before I got smart about the discounts I probably would have settled for a hostel bed for $ 40 or an SRO with no TV, shared bath, no fridge/​micro and possible SSI schizos yammering violent crazy stuff through the walls/​bed bugs for almost the same price if I had to spend a night in SF … for $ 60 in San Francisco this is really about the best you can do.

We had made a reservation based on the pictures that was posted and to our surprise this was not even a 2 star motel. The rooms where so ran down and old that we didn’t feel comfortable to even take our shoes out. Internet pictures for this place are Deception at its best. We stayed for one night and couldn’t get out soon enough. I would rather to sleep in my car next time than stay at this place…

In SF, everything is expensive, and you don’t get what you pay for. My family and I had booked a trip to SF for fall break. We needed a room for 5. Hard to come by. Rodeway had an extra bed option. I did not read reviews before booking. Wish I would have. First I will say that the staff were fine. In fact, the people at the front desk were great (which is why this is a two star review instead of one). The carpet in the room is very worn and dirty. The beds were okay, but the pillows are small and do not provide any support. And you only get one per person with no extras available. The shower water temp changed often from hot to blistering hot so you had to keep it somewhat cool so you didn’t get burned. The tub drained very slowly. The door lock plate was extremely loose. We could not get the Wi-​Fi to work. Free parking is great but the spaces are extremely limited. We ended up on the street two out of three nights. Don’t leave anything in your vehicle. Location — not the best. It is kind of in the middle of everything, but it is near the Tenderloin district — lots of homeless people on the street. We walked through there during the day on our way to Union Square. I’ve never seen more people openly smoking pot on the street in the middle of the day than here. I would not walk through there at night. I would not wander far from the Hotel at night on foot. There is a Burger King around the corner and a Round Table Pizza on the corner. There is also a Walgreens across Van Ness which is a main street. It is in the «will work» category, but I will not stay there again.

Not a bad place. I like that they had a locking door to get up the stairs so that unwanted «guests» can’t get near your room. They have free parking and let me park my car at noon, even though I couldn’t check in until 3pm. That was really nice and allowed us to enjoy our day without worrying about meters or getting towed. The room was clean and comfortable. All in all, this was a good place to stay and I would definitely stay here again.

Surprisingly safe neighborhood. Wide street across from BMW Mini dealership. Rooms are decently clean. Even with window open, not noisy!

Enjoyed my stay at the Rodeway Inn Civic Center San Francisco. The room was older, as were the furnishings and the TV, but was still very comfortable. TV worked fine. Room was spotless, bathroom was spotless, no problem with Wi Fi.
A couple of things to know about the motel. It is near the Tenderloin, which is not the best of neighborhoods in San Francisco. The area is fine in the daytime. It is close to the sights of San Francisco. Public transit is easy, just walk a few blocks down Van Ness to Market Street Muni, and you can get anywhere in the city. I wouldn’t recommend walking at night, but you can catch a Taxi/​Über/​Lyft back to the motel.
There is not enough parking for the entire motel, so that is a problem also. Get there early/​mid afternoon to get a spot. Also, the motel only serves sweet rolls and coffee for «breakfast.» Overall, though, a very good stay. I’ve stayed here several times before, and would stay here again.

If you’re driving a car, find another hotel.
I really hate to give negative reviews to any place but this place has a very serious problem. The rooms are OK but the parking they have is truly terrible.
There are something like 12 spots for entire the hotel. Those spaces fill up quickly. If they’re full, there are only metered spaces out on the street and yes, they give tickets on Saturdays.
If the hotel’s spaces aren’t full, the spaces are WAY too narrow for most cars. Many of the spaces have overhead obstructions so unless your car is a small and low one, you’ll hit a pipe. A mini-​Cooper would be fine. A regular sedan is a maybe.
The aisle between the spaces on the left and those on the right is way too narrow to be able to just pull into a space by making a 90 degree turn. You have to navigate going back and forth and back and forth, trying to get your car into the right position to be able to squeeze into a tight space. If you don’t have a back up camera, you’ll hit another car or a pipe or a post for sure.
I drive a regular minivan. The times that I’ve been here, it has been a serious struggle to fit into a space, when there has been a space available. Tonight, while trying to squeeze into a ridiculously small space, I scraped a fender on a post. Cheap room with $ 500 damaged fender. No bargain.

Cons:
— Bathtub gets choked & light bulb died.
— Smells strongly of something weird, and of cigarettes.
— There’s a sign that says this place may cause cancer, productive problems, etc
— Parking: we had to lift the clearance bar for our SUV and roof rack to pass. Then we had to get the very first spot cos we were unable to get up the slope without hitting the piping on the ceiling. Don’t park here if u have a taller car with or without a roof rack.
— very thin walls. Loud sirens, people talking, cars driving by. U need to be real tired or a heavy sleeper to sleep here.
U get what u pay for. I expected better for $ 85/​night though…

You get what you pay for. Just needed a place to shower and nap. The room was clean but it was old. I had to park on the street since there was no room in the parking lot. The main light in the room didn’t work. Ugh

Affordable, clean and well located, near the Opera, Ballet, SF Jazz, Hayes Street, the wonderful Tommy’s on Van Ness, etc. Don’t let the Tenderloin proximity get you down, but women alone might feel less than assuredly safe. Tight but free parking, which is no small thing on the city.
Big hangup is that it is thin-​walled, draws a party crowd, and is in a part of town where car alarms and fire engines are common. In other words, peaceful sleep is scarce because it is just so darned noisy. Next time I come back, it will be with earplugs.
Oh, and there is WiFi, but it is so spotty I just turned it off. Why does sound travel so freely through these walls but not my sweet data signal?

The room is a 5/10,toilet is clean etc. the outside is another story but all things considered the price is reasonable esp. the weekend rates. The location is good, close to restaurants, Opera house and Davies Symphony… i can come back here for last minute trips:)

You get what you pay for in this city. I didn’t want to drop $ 200 a night on a hotel, so I went with this place.
Location — not terrible. Some of the surrounding areas are ones I wouldn’t walk through at night, but others aren’t bad.
Parking — the free parking is nice, but it is very limited so plan to try to check in early and not drive for the rest of your stay if you want to ensure you have a spot. We chose to walk to dinner to avoid losing our spot and having to deal with on street parking.
Rooms — the rooms are a decent size — updated with large flat screen TVs. Clean enough for a budget motel. The bathroom is pretty nice. The beds feel kind of old — not the most comfortable, but not the worst.
Wifi — when we checked in the employee misspelled the wifi username (also the name of the hotel that employs him). When I double checked with him he assured me that it was the correct information, even though it wasn’t. Kind of a bad attitude when I double checked. Eventually got in and the wifi comes and goes despite the strong signal.

Decent hotel. The room was spacious and clean. Had a flat screen tv, microwave & mini fridge. There is free parking but it is limited & first come, first serve. Front desk guy was friendly & helpful. Price was very affordable!
And lastly, there are no bed bugs :)

Spent one night here. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice, recently remodeled. Off street parking. The only issue we had was the dumpster being banged around by the trash dept at 4:30 am and it sounded like they had A LOT of trouble. It was LOUD! Otherwise, nice experience for the low price. Would stay here again.

This place is definitely somewhere I’d come back. The prices were the cheapest around and only a half a block away from the bus! I took a trip out to San Francisco for the first time ever and reading the reviews I was a bit worried but hopeful for the best.
Pros:It is so awesome that the rooms come with microwave and fridge because you can save money instead of eating out. The prices were the cheapest around and only a half a block away from the bus! Place looked recently renovated and front desk was super nice! The bed was super comfy and the AC worked great! The water got super hot and lasted through me and the hubby taking loooonnggg showers! Also LOVE the massaging showerhead in the bathtub! Felt sooo good after a long day of walking all over San Fran…
Cons: Because the rooms all face each other you do hear a lot of noise at certain times especially from the open garage below the rooms but nothing that lasted for hours or disrupted my sleep. The chairs had burn marks but it is a smoking room so I expected such things. The shower curtain was a little weird cus it curves but it works so whatever and the water pressure wasn’t as strong as I’d like but it was still good. The elevator barely fits two people with luggage, not that it matters cus there are only two floors so walking up one short flight of stairs is no big deal.
Also I didn’t notice a whole lot of homeless or sketchy people. I never saw any «prostitute» looking girls or druggies. The three days I was there I saw one bum!

I have mixed feelings about this place. They have (limited) free parking, which is a big plus for me because parking in SF sucks, and paying $ 30 to park at a hotel sucks. My over all feeling here is that it is old and run down, but spotless.
The room furnishings are obviously 20 years old — green carpet anyone? But it is super clean, I checked. They give you a microwave, fridge, ironing board, coffee pot. Our room had a nice flat screen TV. The air conditioner worked. It’s about a mile walk from anywhere, but at least where we walked, it’s not a bad neighborhood. I wasn’t hassled by anyone. No heaps of trash on the street.
It was a little noisy, but hey, for cheap, clean convenience, bring ear plugs.
