Rocket Photo Studio

Rocket Photo Studio is a small space that is well run and well provisioned. There’s a bevy of knick knacks to help you out with your product photography shoots all easily accessible. There’s one parking spot available in the studio’s garage. Phil the studio owner is gracious and helpful.

Great, clean, comfortable space to shoot. Nice, professional people, and a full kitchen. Parking is easy. SOMA location is terrific.

Rocket Photo Studio:
I love to shoot at Rocket Photo Studio. I have been doing high-​end commercial shoots there for many years. It has a very homey, yet professional feeling. With 4 skylights and a huge south-​facing shooting window, the natural light can be abundant and beautiful all day, or all of these light sources can be blacked out for easier viewing with Strobes or Hotlights. There is enough space for me to do fairly large catalog shoots with lots of merchandise and props, and still have plenty of space left over for elaborate lighting set-​ups. I have built fake interiors with two 12 ft. walls (rafters are 17ft.) and also done «room sets» with models.
It’s only a few blocks from the Civic Center BART station which makes it convenient for Clients and anyone else who doesn’t use a car. For those who do, there is a garage that holds two average-​sized cars and easy access to the studio through a set of ground-​level, huge double-​doors, which makes loading and unloading gear a breeze. If it’s a shoot with lots of people and cars, there are a couple of parking garages just around the corner which have very reasonable day rates.
There is a commercial kitchen integrated into the space which is great for breakfast and lunch, as well as any shots that may involve food. Of course, there is free wireless high-​speed internet and a stereo system. If you are low on gear or just need something supplemental, there is a lot of grip (stands, sand bags, clamps, etc.) and some lighting gear available as well.
The prices are extremely affordable — especially for a stand-​alone, private building, as opposed to a space with many studios where random strangers can peek in on your shoot. It really is a great deal all around.
