Reliance Market

Here are a few of the things you can look forward to:
+ merchandise that’s been there so long it has a layer of dust
+ seemingly random prices
+ soda in a fridge that is not really cold at all

I’d say don’t go here so that it goes out of business. But the family that runs the store owns the building. So you might as well stop by to see the train wreck.
BTW: 19^th & Noe has an excellent corner store. Go there instead.

Y’all, this place is ridiculous. My partner lives about a half a block away from this store, and I cringe every time I have to mosey up the hill to this dump.
I can actually kind of get past the HORRIBLE service (but barely, It’s terrible – you don’t even know. I’ve had multiple interactions where absolutely no words were spoken, just awkward exchanges of bewildered stares. Now you know.) But I cannot get over the fact that they are just casually selling expired food like its not a huge deal. My partner bought expired gum here once. How long does gum have to sit out before it expires? It’s freaking gum. People should be able to go into a store and buy gum without having to wonder if the rancid gum they are about to (absolutely not) enjoy has been serving a completely useless existence sitting on a shelf in this dusty hole of a store for 35 years, or whatever the half-​life of gum is.
I’m not sure what else I need to say. Basically, don’t shop here. Walk those extra steps down to Noe Hill Market or that fancy Buffalo store. Those people are friendly, and they won’t sell you mutated gum as far as I can tell.

Friendly and engaging staff that always serves to please! I live about a block and a half away, so it’s great to have a reliable store that helps me when I’m in need. If you’re not feeling the vibe, put a smile on and crack a few jokes! You’re bound to put a smile on someone’s face

We live ½ a block away, and renamed this place, «The Mean Store».
dust always on products, except for juices.
wine: every bottle I’ve purchased here has turned.
prices: different every time I (am forced) to go in.
What in the hell is the lady doing on the computer every time I’m in there? I’ll tell ya: VIDEO POKER. No kidding, she will make you wait for her to ring you up.
When she does get off the computer, sighing and kvetching, she’ll ring you up, and immediately go back and sit down…(«dammit why didn’t I have the exact amount waiting so I don’t have to do this process everytime!» you curse to yourself– only to remember prices are different every time.)
Wait some more to give her your cash – about another minute or so – and then she’ll SIGH, get back up, and take your money.
Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so ethical. I’d take off. It seriously sucks when you have to patron this place.
I’m honest, when she glares at you to leave and go upstairs when you walk in, I just leave the money on the counter. She’s not coming back for awhile.
the men that run the place are always insanely nice, they always ask where I’ve been and why don’t I come more often? Well, its because of your crazy lady you got running the joint when you’re not around, fellas!

I want to like this place. It is super close to where I live and they cut keys, but prices and service are inconsistent at best. Mom doesn’t like to do things that would interrupt whatever video poker game she’s playing, and the sons are forced labor and don’t practice the best customer service. However, Dad is super nice and when Grandma’s around, you’re in for a treat.
Just don’t buy anything that can spoil, because I know of more than one occurrence when things were purchased that were expired. I just try to shop for necessities elsewhere, even if it means a long walk. And if the parking spot they dominate is ever open, I try to park in it and keep it for several days, just as a mean way to get back the multiple dollars I’ve lost on the fluctuating price of their goods.

I moved into the neighbor and unfortunately Reliance was the closest. I have never had a good experience at this market, but the walk up to 24^th street or down to 18^th is sometimes too much. The prices are always a toss up, dependent on the family member behind the counter and their mood. Marishka is always on the phone and never interested in assistance. A lot of the products seems to have been there for years. If you can avoid Reliance, I would encourage it.

If i could take away stars i would. Stopped in there and said hello to the guy behind the counter who completely ignored me. Found what i wanted and came back to the counter and was TOTALLY ignored. The guy behind the counter never looked at me once. He had to look up the price in a book and then said three dollars. No bag no thank you, no goodbye nothing. I will never enter this place again.

I must have gone when the sons were working. Both just sat up front, no hello, no head nod, all intent was on the television that was on. When I went to pay either of them got up until one told the other that I was just standing at the counter. I’m hoping this was isolated patron treatment, would sure be awful if everybody who shopped there got this sort of treatment, being named the «reliance market» you have a reputation to upkeep… ya think?

I moved to San Francisco in May and live just a block away from this little place. I’m in there all the time for things like wine, snacks, smokes, bla bla bla. Everytime I’m in there Marishka is telling me some story about something… She’s very nice. Recently I went in and asked to pay with a credit card… she said oh just pay me later… I was shocked! Now I just have to remember to go back and pay her. I have to say, they need to have a better quality of cold cuts.

this is my favorite corner store. it is your basic sf liquor and grocery spot, no frills, but it is a family owned place with all your necessities. i live next door and Sammy, the owner and his wife are the best. Sammy calls me sweetheart and carries the wine i like just for me. when i get locked out of my apartment in my barefeet and boxer shorts, i go use their phone, when i forget to close my apartment window, Sammy reminds me. They even keep an extra set of my keys behind the counter for me. Mariska, his wife, is a bit gruff and can come off as rude sometimes… she doesn’t hesitate to keep you waiting while she finishes her phone call… but once you get to know her, she is very sweet too.
and did i mention the wine selection is great for such a small place!

Very good sandwich for $ 4, not the friendliest of service. Perfect spot to hit on the way to dolores park.
