RAW – A Juice Company

Literally a «hidden» gem. Kind of hard to find. It is inside a storefront that opens up to multiple business.
As you walk inside RAW is to your left.
This will be kind of short and sweet. I recommend you go there if you need some fresh juice! Reminded me of how we juice at home but with less pulp. I forgot what I ordered but I kept it on the side of ‘sweetness’ because I did not want to go too bold. Make sure you check in there! Enjoy!

My mom bought me a juicer once. She was all, «I know you guys like to eat healthy…» As sweet as her intentions were all I could think of was all the cleaning we used to do back when Dad would get into one of his juicing moods. Pulp, bits, and cleaning all sorts of parts… so not fun.
The good people at RAW make great juices. Filled with all sorts of cool things that I would LOVE to throw in a juicer and not have to clean. Simple, actual ingredients that I can see right behind the counter. And then I watch it all become juice.
The cucumber and ginger in my drink were exactly what I needed in my life.
Good drink that makes me feel good and requires no cleaning. WIN!

This is a review for the Market Street location, between 15^th and Church Streets. Right on the border of the Mission/​Castro/​Lower Haight neighborhoods.
I am winding down a 5 day cleanse from RAW and the experience has been great. I’ve had cleanses in the past and I usually have a lot of ups and downs during them – cravings, crankiness, hunger. Usually by day three I start to obsess, «This has been a horrible mistake.» I often white-​knuckle it through the last day, dying to eat.
The RAW cleanse however has been by far the best I’ve had, and without any side effects. The juice is super fresh, the ingredient combinations are interesting and delicious, the cleanse was mildly personalized (Elyse added ingredients I requested), and not eating (chewing food) has been effortless.
I read some other reviews of RAW that mention the cost of the juice. It is expensive, but I would imagine it’s expensive because high-​quality perishable ingredients are used. In San Francisco!
Totally recommend this place.

RAW is sneakily located. I passed by it a few times, insisting to the people I was with that I hadn’t led them wrong and that RAW should be right here… Well it’s located inside a shared space of about four other tiny, counter shops.
Another confusion was that acai bowls were nowhere to be found on their menu. I had seen them advertised as ‘coming-​soon’ on their Facebook page, but months later and I was sad to see that it was only juices offered here. Despite my jonesing for a smoothie bowl, I decided to try a juice.
The price is steep! It killed me a little inside when I handed over my $ 10 bill for a small green juice. The juice was edible though, which says a lot more than can be said of plenty other green juices I’ve experienced. In my experience, juicing means you’ll be served a drink that is lukewarm and if your ingredients are lacking sugar (aka mostly veggies), prepare for nasty. Luckily this was not the case with the MINTY PINE that I tried here.
The Minty Pine is a combination of apple, pineapple and mint. I didn’t really detect the taste of this last mint ingredient, but the other two items made for something refreshing. Though composed of these two fruits, the drink was only subtly sweet, which is what you’re looking for in a juice that’s actually healthy (I’d assume).
On account of price, I don’t anticipate a return visit to RAW, but I was glad to have experienced it.

The reason why I came to RAW is that the juice company is the only one that uses activities coconut charcoal. This unique pitch black flavor is what relieves my stomach upset. After consuming it mixed into any pressed juice, I know activated charcoal can be consumed just once. My word to anyone is simple: think before you try it.

This is my favorite juice place in SF! They will make you something off the menu if you tell them what you need or if you have some ailment. The menu items, however, are all winners and super fresh & delicious. There is a second location on Market Street in the new Myriad complex, so you can get your Raw juice on in two spots. Also, they make foodstuffs from the leftover pulps and creations like fruit leather. Support small, local business and you will be happy :)

My fiancé and I visited San Francisco from Los Angeles; while we were there we visited this place at both locations it was so good. In Los Angeles there exists an abundance of pretension when dealing with local juicers. Asking questions seems to be more of an annoyance to the staff rather than an opportunity to enlighten people about the health benefits of natural juices. Such is not the case when you visit Raw. Elyse is very personable and eager to discuss everything on her menu. Her creations are artful and delicious. If you are just visiting or are a local to the area, you owe it to yourself to visit this place as often as possible. BEST… JUICE…EVER!!!

Delicious, affordable, and the person working was patient with me and explained the options so I could really figure out what I wanted. They gave me a shot for extra energy which was great. This place is also in a really fun neighborhood so I recommend grabbing a juice and then walking around and checking out the other shops etc. in the area. The juice was delicious and fresh and totally worth the price.

Fast ORGANIC and the girl working was very helpful and sweet. the juice blends are great I had a hard time picking! Definitely will return!

Yum!!! Joint juice was absolutely amazing. If you like some tart in your juice, this is it. It is a one man juice bar stand. She was very efficient. Place is pretty hard to find. There are no signs sticking out off the building on Haight street. It’s a little raw sign against the black wall inside a center with other shops inside. Everything is fresh and in view to watch while your drinks being blended. make sure you check in for $ 1 off your drink so your drink size may be upgraded for free because each juice size is basically $ 1 more than the last size. well worth thay dollar!

Super fresh green zing juice. Tasted awesome and raw. Little bit expensive unless you go for the largest size — it’s a better deal then.

RAW is a juice counter that opened in the Haight in February 2014. It’s located inside Second Act which is a food/​beverage and event space, kind of like a small food court. RAW is nestled in there with a creperie, an ice cream shop, and Burmese and Russian eateries. Thanks to Jessica T for introducing us to this relatively new spot. It served as the perfect place to get healthy refreshments after a walk at Golden Gate Park.
During our visit, RAW had roughly 12 different juices available. Juice ingredients included beets, carrots, celery, cucumber, kale, ginger, lime, tumeric, lemon, ginger, agave, parsley, green apple, cilantro, spinach, pineapple, lime, pear, mint, orange, and more.
Most, if not all, of the drinks are pressed to order. You get to watch the staff make your drink from scratch with raw fruits and vegetables. This way, you know for sure your drink is fresh. This is opposed to some juice places that have batches of juice sitting in a fridge. More than likely, they’re sufficiently fresh, but it’s nice to see that you’re getting the freshest tasting juice right out of the press at RAW.
Unless otherwise noted, drink prices were as follows:
Small (12oz) — $ 6.50
Medium (16oz) — $ 8.50
Large (20oz) — $ 9.50
I went with a medium «Haight Refresher» which is made of cucumber, pear, lime, apple, and ginger. This was recommended to me by the staff. I was looking for something light and it fit the bill. It was refreshingly fruity, but mildly so. The juice wasn’t thick, which is what I was looking for, though it did have a subtle fibrous texture presumably from the pears (which I didn’t mind). I’ve had a lot of juices with ginger in them and I appreciate that the ginger in this drink wasn’t overpowering. It seemed like just the right amount.
Zoie, who also wrote a review for this place, ordered a «Pearadise City» which is made of pears, gunpowder green tea, edible rose petals, charcoal, green apple, and onion. What an interesting combination! This was the first black-​colored juice I’ve seen. It gets its color from the charcoal and gunpowder tea.
The owner, Elyse Thogerson, is cool and friendly. She is the juice master.

I just love Raw. I’m so glad it’s close to me so I can come in on weekends.

After walking around the area and enjoying the atmosphere of San Francisco and my fellow ACROYM members, we ended up on the Haight –Ashbury district but before we departed fellow Unilocaler extraordinaire Jess T. mentioned she was heading RAW for a «pick me up» and being the adventurous Unilocaler I strive to be, I followed.

RAW was my first (and certainly not my last) experience with freshly pressed juice. Some of the flavor combinations looked a bit strange to me so I ended up with the Haight Refresher — cucumber, pear, apple and ginger — a nice tame combination for my first go around.
I gave my order and literally right before my eyes, fresh produce was extracted from the cooler, «pressed» and presented to me. My medium ($ 8.50) cup was not chilled but it was so refreshing and quenched the thirst that I built up walking around the city.
Some might think that $ 8.50 is a bit steep but when you compare that to the going rate of a single cocktail in the city — RAW is much better for the body and soul!
Drink in hand I strolled along the bustling area of Haight feeling more and more refreshed and the stomach ache that I had earlier in the day dissipated. And just when I thought I was done with my drink– I small piece of ginger made it’s way up my straw and gave me that last bit of zing.
I wish I lived closer because I know that this would probably supplement (but not replace) my Starbucks addiction. But after my first foray — I am looking forward to finding some Juice Bars in the Connecticut area.

Lots of options and everything is made to order. You can add whatever you want! The lady who works there is laid back and chill.
It’s like $ 9.50 for a large but to me that’s worth it for good juice. Same price you would pay for a cocktail in SF.
She blends sweet and savory perfectly with actually healthy add ons like ground flax seed, chlorophyll, turmeric, or ginger. Check this place out!

As our weekend together as Acronym members was coming to an end we finished it off with a nice long walk. Near the end of the walk, close to when the group was getting ready to disperse on our various activities, Jessica T. mentioned Raw Juice Company. Initially I was going to buy a scoop from the ice cream stand set up directly across from them; but I decided that with everything that I had ingested that weekend (ice cream, booze, pizza, curry, flatbread, more booze, pastries, sandwiches, etc) that it was probably better for me if I took a step back from the sweets and chose something infinitely more healthy for me.
Raw had a woman quickly slicing and chopping fresh fruits and veggies behind the counter, that my friends is what I needed.
After initially telling other Acronym members that the drink with charcoal in it sounded weird I ended up ordering it. I remember having a killer stomach ache from the 500 lbs of food I had eaten that weekend and thinking that charcoal is what they use to pump your stomach when you need to get rid of toxins so it seemed like a logical choice. I purchased a small drink ($ 6.50) and despite knowing there was charcoal in it I was surprised (but in a cool way) when I was handed a pitch black drink (it was the subject of a small little photo op outside).
Despite the fact that it was blacker than my soul the drink was quite tasty. I could vividly taste the celery, and although near the last few sips the drink was a bit gritty it was overall very pleasant (and most importantly helped settle my stomach).
While this whole concept of juicing is new to me, and 9 times out of 10 I would still probably spend my last $ 10 on cakes rather than pulverised raw veggies Raw was a nice break from the usual for me.

Raw is awesome.
Elyse goes out of her way to make me custom juice when my body is cranky. Add a little tumeric when I am feeling bloat-​y, ginger for immune, chili for some heat…
In any case she is like an apothecary of fresh juice.
Passion is obvious, the flavor is complex and lovely and the prices are in line with most REAL fresh pressed juice.
She is adding all kinds of new items as we speak, so go back often and check them out. (I am lucky to work down the street)
